A side by side comparison between the Bridgestone RE71RS and Rubbercraft SP-01R. The laps on the Bridgestone tyres were completed in winter, while the Rubbercraft laps were on a warm 30 degree Celsius day.
The Rubbercraft gave similar amounts of grip and confidence as the Bridgestone; however, the Rubbercraft option is an 80 tread wear tyre vs 200 tread wear for the Bridgestone. One area where the Bridgestone held out was being able to maintain lap time over a larger amount of laps. The Rubbercraft tyres were excellent straight out of the gate but suffered later in the session due to heat.
Lap times were similar, and when compared to the Bridgestone RE71RS in similar conditions, lap times were on par.
During the sessions on the Rubbercraft tyre, lap times were within a tenth of a current generation Subaru BRZ (2.4 litre motor) running the Bridgestone RE71RS in the same specification. Showing that grip is either the same or arguably better given the power difference between my first generation BRZ and the newer model.
