So glad I live in Australia, we have something called Dept of housing. They own the houses . We pay 25% of our income to rent the house, as long as we pay our weekly rent we can stay in them for life. My rent is 530 a month and I have lived in my property for 28 years.

I just live in a state that is very expensive and I need a little help to pay part of my rent. My portion of the monthly rent is $1,100. It is only temporary until I can save to try and buy a place. They have a program that I’m in which helps you get off of assistance & build your credit, etc.

This is why landlords often do not wish to rent to section 8 tenants. They play these types of games and tend to be destructive ( not all, but the ones that are tend to be from this demographic.) And when you try to get them evicted, the courts do exactly what happened here. My mom had a tenant stay without paying her portion for over a year b4 the judge granted the eviction. My mom was owed over $20k in back rent. Do you know how many of these types of tenants cause people to lose their property? NYC tenant/landlord court is a joke. Leases mean nothing here.

Landlords - No one is forcing you to accept Section 8. It's a two way street. If you accept Section 8, you get assistance with repairs and maintenance, plus other benefits. People who want to hate those who take advantage of the system need to realize that it isn't just the tenants that are receiving this assistance. Landlords are also able to take advantage of this system as well.
