Probably my favourite thing I've seen on this channel! Which is saying something. The discussion on Tolkien's and Lewis's friendship is up there too.

I think I should give Tarkovsky's films another try. Of the several I've tried to watch over the years, I think The Sacrifice was the only one I made it all of the way through.

I love what you said about the bell representing a higher order Symphonia. Could you do more on music and how musical literacy has been eviscerated in the West, even at the folk level?

talking about the value of metal in the older times makes me wonder what the modern equivalent is. Attention?

I'd actually love seeing Jamie tackle the topic on her show "out of this world". She has talked about the transcendental nature of music before, but I don't think she's ever done an in-depth presentation.

This was well worth the wait. Your discussion really epitomized a theme from previous episodes in this series, namely that true art endlessly provides meaning. It's not a one off with strict symbolic correspondence. I've seen Andrei Rublev several times and many of your observations never occurred to me. Can't wait to watch the new release. Thanks!

This film I consider to be the closest you get to something like a personal artist manifesto. The core struggle I find is how can you make art that reflects the Good, the True and the Beautiful in a world that not only seems to be absent of those things, but also seems to revel in the opposite. Also, how can you make something permanent when everything in this world is ultimately impermanent. And yes, I can talk about this film for about as long as the film itself 😁

Andrei Jr.s version has only been shown on film festivals as of now. It will probably see a wider release in a year or so i would imagine.

Wasn’t there a recent idea that the Hospitality of Abraham is not Rublev? Or another famous icon usually attributed to Rublev…?

One suggested it was an Italian, but when you look at the Italian's other work, it has no comparison. Some suggested Danyel, or Theophanes... but they ended up concluding that there is no support for these claims beyond conjecture

Special thanks from Russia, a very interesting interview, Andrei Rublev is perhaps the most important film for me from Tarkov, the scene with the pagan "slowgirl" and the Tatar Commander, where she eats horse meat from the floor and leaves with them after promising to make her the 7th wife, symbolizes original sin. And in the modern context, the film is like a prediction, where without Christianity as the basis of moral ethics, we get onlyfans and generally degenerative practices in all areas of life.
