For thousands of marine species, these coastal waters are a safe haven. The marine environment and offshore islands are protected by three national wildlife refuges and Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. The refuges manage the islands visible above high tide waters for 135 miles along the coast. Large nesting colonies of birds like common murres and tufted puffins need these rocky outposts.
Kalaloch is one of the most visited areas of Olympic National Park. Kalaloch and Ruby Beach are located on the southwest coast of the Olympic Peninsula. They are accessible directly off of Highway 101.
Famous for the reddish sand that occasionally gathers and large, rock islands known as sea stacks, Ruby Beach is one of the most well-known and highly anticipated beaches to visit along the Olympic coastline. Here, flip-flops are optional, but highly recommended; you'll need to wear something on your feet because Ruby Beach is a rocky beach, not a sandy beach. To truly explore the wonders of Ruby Beach, including the driftwood that lines the shore, bring a pair of flip flops, water shoes, or old tennis shoes that can get wet.

Old rockhound here, Ruby Beach used to have a lot of carnelian agate to be found, but it's been picked over pretty hard. The reddish colored sand is garnet. For people visiting there for the first time, be wary of the water, sneaker waves are common and will knock you flat and drag you out quicker than you would believe possible. Look at where those driftwood logs are and think about how they got there...be careful on Pacific beaches, folks.

Nice video. I love Ruby Beach. I also make videos and would like to ask what camera you made this with. I see reflections of yours with the selfie stick and am impressed with the video quality. But if you think Ruby Beach is awesome, you need to visit the Southern Oregon Coast

@@gailgrace7050 Thank you for the wonderful comment my friend it’s nice to meet a fellow traveler! I actually use the Go Pro Hero 11 Black as well as a Panasonic GH5 DSLR. Most of the shots you are referring to were shot with the Go Pro. It has really nice natural colors and image quality for such a small camera. It’s also waterproof up to 25m. I plan on returning to visit the entire Oregon Coast in the near future, I’ve only been as far south as Cannon Beach which was insanely beautiful. I want to check out Coos Bay all the way to Samuel H Boorman Scenic Corridor. Thanks again! 😁👍
