Awesome trip! You got to enjoy that place just like I did back in 2020! We camped at Liberty Lake in the same spot you did! Awesome to see Monica using the Tenkara! They are so fun! I think I was up there almost the same time you were. I never get past Lamoille Lake. Spending time with my daughter, SIL, and grandson takes precedence. Someday we will do the whole thing. It is a hidden gem. Probably because Elko is such a chore to get to and there are lots of other cool places to see before you get there.

what a place! similar to Sierras but you can tell it is a different environment so beautiful! Mountain Goats!! /not sheep, you probably realized by now, sheep are Bighorns// GReat Sighting! So much green that is really nice compared to what is usually yellow in the sierras. Awesome time in the mountains, cool timelapses too/ neat you found the guy's car it's fun to leave messages that way thanks for sharing

Not Altitude sickness. I think it was just a mix of eating bad on the drive up. Had a protein overload!

Fantastic. Great spot. I need to figure out tackle for lake trout with a spinning reel. Thinking of trying Berkeley atomic tubes and a Kastmaster. I just got my Tenkara rod repaired so really hoping on catching a trout soon. I ordered a Handy Pak Insta-Net Ghost and it arrived today too. Getting hyped watching this haha.

I will try to make it out there with my wife, a few questions; are the mosquitoes very bad? What was the temp in August? Was it ok parking your car in that lot? Why didn’t you guys eat any of the fish?

Don't remember the temp, but it didn't get too cold at night. Mosquitos were bad close to the lakes in the evening. Parking lot is safe to park a car. We already had food planned for the trip, otherwise we may have kept a few to eat.

Hey Huck. I have a question please. what products/precautions do you take against tics? For some reason that's a huge fear for me.....besides a bear and mountain lion 😅 Hopefully your body settled and you feel better. You think it was the elevation and sun?

Unlikely that you’ll see ticks at that elevation.

I've hiked the Ruby's a couple times now, and there are ticks out there. I've found treating my clothing and gear with permethrin does a fine job of keeping them away.

I'll be in tourist big bear lake 😅 I remember taking no precautions then a ranger telling me to watch for tics 😮 then hearing my family getting Lyme. I'm also paranoid all of a sudden. I'll look up the Permethrin

I have been to the Ruby’s twice now. Once for this same trip, and this year to do the Ruby Crest Trail. There are sections that are very overgrown in the Smith Creek drainages. I wore long pants and long socks in that section. I did not have any ticks upon inspection when I got home. Permethrin on your clothes would be a great precaution for ticks.

I treat all my clothes beforehand with Permethrin. That helps a ton against ticks. I was bit by a tick when I was 18 off the Santa Ana River Trail and got the bullseye rash, 😩. A month of antibiotics luckily cleared it all up.
