My current favorite port is Croft Reserve Tawny Porto. Great stuff--super smooth, a nice balance between wood, vanilla, over-ripe fruit, and sweetness...

Of the several archived vlogs I've watched, this one has been the most informative. I love Port which I seldom drink; I have been saving a bottle of Dow 2011 vintage for nine years, but it might take the birth of my first grandchild to open. Salute!

I started my wine journey with Six Grapes Port wine. Very sweet and mmm mmm good. Like drinking a whole bottle in an hour. With time, I graduated to drier wines. Eventually, I ventured into whites and rose's. But I like to return to Graham's Six Grapes when I really want a Port wine.

Wow. This was awesome. Drinking my first port right now from a local winery. Barrel aged muscat and a harsher tawny.

this evening i'm trying my first glass of port wine ev3r. tawny variation... let me just say i'm in my early 20's discovering wine, i didn't know what to expect! I sat down with port cheese and crackers.. i'll be honest i do not favor the port wine... maybe this will change in th eyears to come, but i had no idea it had such a SWEET profile! very acidic,, heavy and woody. an interesting wine at the least, enjoyed my first experience along to the video :) discoveries :)

I honestly was turned off to Port initially too since I prefer Syrah/Shiraz. It was weird for me to taste something that intense with sweetness, but Graham’s Six Grapes grew on me after the 3rd sip. It’s still pretty sweet but I think the depth balances it out and the finish is awesome.

Hey Madeline. I'm new to this channel but love your videos and your blogs. I just wanted to point out though that, Cockburns which is a British brand named after a surname is pronounced "koʊbərn" like co (as in co-worker) and burns. This always amuses my French flatmate.

How long can you keep a Ruby Port in storage? Will it age well?

I've developed a small ability in my novice wine tasting to pick up a scent and compare it to wine. Your wine descriptions make my nose go crazy. Lol

Glass: it is similar to scotch sipping glass, the different is port glass a tiny bit bigger than scotch sipping glass. Since those spirit are rich on mouth and taste so these glass are perfect for sipping (not gulping down). Good review.

tawny over ruby in general. stays longer in casks and gets to be the color of whisky. ruby also ages in oak but the cask is ten times larger and they age between 2 to 4 years

@whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa5 жыл бұрын
The "port-style" wines I've had from California are basically just semi sweet fortified wines and have none of the special characteristics of a true Port. A good tawny is like baklava is a glass.

Hi Madeline, you said when you see a 10, 20, or 30 year old bottle of tawny port that means the blend is at least as old. I was told by other wine professionals that a 10, 20, or 30 year old tawny port needs to only taste that old (which is decided by a panel of winemakers). Any clarification would be great. Thanks again for your awesome videos!
@pattyboi558 жыл бұрын
Andrew Vesey it's the average age of all the wines blended in.

KingKenna thank you, I have been waiting for an answer for a while now!
@trespasser1217 жыл бұрын
Actually another expert says only a majority of the wine has to be that old - I tend to believe that version. 'Average' age doesn't mean much - you can put 1 ml of 40 year old to increase the number.
