What an extraordinary survival, and in good sound. Is the original source the BBC? They had a terrible habit of destroying recordings. One such sad example was Egon Petri’s 1933 recitals of the music of Alkan - the Symphony and Concerto for solo piano - which were recorded by the BBC, but the discs were subsequently destroyed!

The live Queen’s Hall broadcast was given with the London Philharmonic, Julius Harrison replacing Hamilton Harty who had been taken ill. Some site a date of 19 October 1936 as indeed does Geoffrey Self in his Harrison biography but the BBC Genome database states a broadcast date of 29 October.
