Talking about Wemby? He was 2nd in defensive rating and 5th in defensive win shares while being surrounded by much worse defensive players. Gobert was first in both, but his team is MUCH better defensively. Wemby was 2nd in defensive box plus/minus while Gobert was 17th, because Gobert on or off the court doesn't make that much of a difference for his team defensively. At least not as much as Wemby. Wemby was 18th in steal %, not sure where Gobert placed as he had half of Wemby's stat. Overall, if you switched the teams on which they played, the Timberwolves would have likely been better with Wemby on their team, and the Spurs worse with Gobert (defensively, of course). Wembanyama is just the better performer defensively and showed just how much he can do with almost no defensive support from his teammates. I doubt Gobert would have thrived as much as Wemby did on the backend if he had been on the Spurs.

i agree with Kenny. The thing about a great defensive team is not reliant on 1 player; and a great perimeter defender still needs a good interior teammates and vice versa. Hakeem had tough teammates, Kahwi had Timmy then Gasol, Timmy had Bowen and Kawhi, Mj and Pippen, Dwight had scrappy teammates to funnel opponent into him, Gasol have the grind team. If it's only 1 great defender in a soft team, it will be the same scenario as Marion in Suns and Rudy in Utah during the playoffs.
