Rue while in her pensive state gets interrupted by Jules. She finally asks her if she loves Anna and Jules hesitates (remember Jules doesn't really get love because she's used to being with someone as a high) but says yes. Then when Rue asks if she's in love with her, without hesitation Jules smiles and ecstatically says yes. Insecure Rue then asks her if she wishes she were different and Jules pauses to say no. Jules is in stark contrast to Rue in this scene, really. Jules became a party girl/ someone who chases someone just for the high. Rue on the other hand became reserved and dependent on Jules and her friends instead of relying on drugs. She fell in love with Jules. Jules still chooses not to acknowledge that. Rue finally kisses her and proposes her idea of leaving town and going to the city. They both feel the high of the kiss they shared, therefore Rue made an impulsive statement/idea. So when Rue tells her that she wants to leave this town, Jules is excited to chase the high life again (Anna and her druggy friends) and doesn't really care about what Rue says towards the end ( "Jules this is a bad idea.") Rue started to think about her mom and her sister, both who she loves dearly. She doesn't want to leave them. Jules doesn't like what she said so she manipulates her by kissing Rue, and Rue mutters "what the fuck," because she knows she's being manipulated into going with Jules but Jules wouldn't acknowledge it.

I think that she realized that Jules was manipulating her to left and it's kinda heartbreaking when all the things that you imagined abt that person and considering, according to me,Rue idealized her that she was the best person in the town,that idealizations went down seeing that she doesn't wanted to leave with Rue,she wanted to go with Anna and her other friends,living that life of euphoric sensations and drugging,maybe she just realized that but like in a toxic relationship, considering Rue is dependent emotionally on Jules she will still love her.

Yeah they have both been through toxic situations that require SEPARATE healing to truly find themselves. I mean for goodness sake rues is a recovering addict, you’re not even suppose to be in a relationship in this state. On the other hand you have Jules want this lavish life, also wanting to experience love but has been through traumatic experiences like with Nate. They literally can’t work right now. It’s toxic.
