Girl! You need to do a “Chaka Khan week”! Both her music with Rufus and without is awesome. Her range, her tone, her soul is second to NONE and unlike any other before or after her.

Hips and Lips, the amazing Chaka Khan. Today she still has that top end on her voice and she's still a vocal force to be reckoned with. More Chaka please.

Most people don't realize this band was born out of the 60s band American Breed who had a hit with "Bend Me Shape Me". Sweet Thing", "Once You Get Started", "You Got The Love".. and so many other amazing songs... I love Rufus and Chaka Khan....

Aaaaah, Chaka Khan! Saw her live once at North Sea Jazz. It doesn't matter what she does, pop, funk, soul ballads or straight up jazz, that voice just grabs hold of you and bowls you over like a tidal wave. Love her to bits! What a singer!

I think she's touring with Michael McDonald. They're both scheduled to play at the Grand Sierra Resort here in Reno on July 27th. I finally got to see him play there a few years ago, but I'd really love to see her too. I had what I thought was her debut album.....the one with 'Through the Fire'. The last time I ate magic mushrooms ( sometime in the 1990s....)....I remember going thru a bunch of my cassette tapes......Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc.,......trying to find JUST the right album to set the mood. It was that Chaka Khan album that finally worked for me.

The guitar player on the right is using a talk box. That's the white contraption at the base of the microphone stand. Notice the clear plastic tube that winds up the stand and is mounted beside the microphone. The talk box is modulated with the mouth.

I love your reactions... very thoughtful and perceptive. A former child actor( commercials, Brady Bunch, Partridge Family etc) that I am acquainted with lived with Chaka and her significant other during the height of her career and witnessed chaotic and destructive behavior in the house. Chaka Khan was mistreated in her relationships as well as being stolen from by those around her... such a talented musician and beautiful person but fell in love and trusted shady fools that betrayed her...I pray that her life changed... Redemption!! True love and getting paid her worth...that would be an awesome outcome!! Cheers!

Wow - always loved Chaka - but I also want to take this opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate ALL of your reactions - very different types of music... now, I'm a Queen and Pink Floyd fan, but I also grew up with the other bands/groups to which you are reacting in the 70's - Trippin' down memory lane -- and I love how open-minded you are - Please keep going on, Girl... :)

This was their breakthrough Song that Stevie Wonder wrote for them. He wrote a plethora of other songs for folks. Until You Come Back To Me by Aretha Franklin, It's A Shame for The Spinners, and Let's Get Serious by Jermaine Jackson. This Show was The Midnight Special from 1972-1981 that was broadcasted on Friday after The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson at 1:00 AM. What made the show so amazing was that it showed every musical genre and bridged the gap between American Bandstand and Soul Train. All kinds of musical genres were on. They would tape the Show on Saturday Morning and broadcasted it the following Friday Night.

Yes, that’s supposed to be moaning, and the meaning of the song was, well...it’s what you yelled to your kid! Back then songwriters knew how to say nasty things with subtlety. This song is about getting feedback on your performance so to speak and letting someone know you have ways of keeping their attention - you’re going to bring them into some knowledge.

In 1976 I saw The Who @ Anaheim Stadium. The opening bands included Los Angeles Rock/Funk outfit Little Feat & Rufus featuring Chaka Khan. EVERYONE grooved on ALLl of the acts. Jump to 1981...I witnessed a pre-Purple Rain Prince was opening for the Rolling Stones. He was booed off-stage by racist-homophobic ass-holes. Progress? Not sure why, but I just had to rant 👍🏻👍🏿
