Ruger 10/22 vs Remington 552 Speedmaster

I agree. I like them both. It’s just one of those “if you had to be stuck on an island?” questions. Just for fun. Both would be the last of, I’d ever sell.

Both are nice to own but I like the older models. Best thing about 22 shorts especially the CCI is they are up to some 22lr velocities now. Years back they were about 200fps slower. Good accuracy from both. 🎯🙏👍

I have both. Prefer my 552 and also my dad's old 550-1 Remington.

My first rifle when I was 12 years was the Speedmaster. I still have it 54 years later. It is a very accurate .22 rifle My Dad liked it so much he bought one for himself. He had previously owned a 10/22. I like the 10/22, IMHO it’s not a case of which is better, it’s which one do you like better. I like the Speedmaster for sentimental reasons, and because you don’t have to use a magazine like the 10/22. But…now do both against the Marlin Model 60.

Yeah I should do that. I don’t have a Marlin 60. But I do have a 99 which is the predecessor to the 60. Same rifle, just a couple slight differences. I made a video about the 99. I’ll talk about all three some time. Appreciate the comment!

The 550 will shoot even lighter loads. Not sure why. Same basic design.

Both are fine. But that speedmaster is very important historical firearm. I have a newer Remmie with the raised cheekpiece. its walnut furniture is world class

I would really like to get my hands on the 552c. They only made the carbine for two years. So it’s a little tougher to find.

@FirearmsandFellowship I've actially never seen a Carbine in the wild. I knew they made them but there can't be many left. Economic times may change that. I've built a whole fleet this year of ultra rare 788s that I couldn't find for 30 yrs. Good luck

I don’t know why people insist on comparing the 10/22 and 552 Speedmaster. They are completely different concepts in rifles. The 10/22 is an inexpensive 22 with lots of stamped parts and cheap wood or plastic stocks and not quit full size/length rifle. Admittingly, Ruger did a very good job at MFG an inexpensive rifle. It is built on a “platform” concept where you can completely change the rifle if you want to add a lot of $$$. The 552 is a top-quality built rifle with a classic design that seems to never fade out. Its barrel is impeccable and accurate on a full-size rifle. The stocks are quality milled American Walnut and the BDL deluxe models are top end exquisite keep sakes. Oh, and the “Speed” is there for a reason…pull that trigger as fast as you can (at least for 15 rounds).

The pre ww2 guns were better quality in materials and workmanship. But the post ww2 guns were still very good.

Both are excellent rifles. If I had to choose one, I wouldn’t be disappointed. Remington is probably more accurate. Ruger is probably more reliable. Either way, it would be a good problem to have.

@FirearmsandFellowship I have a 552 572 and a 39A Remington. I have 3 Marlin model 60s, and a 22XT. We have 2 Savage A 22s. And 3 Mark 2s. We also have 6-7 Henry lever guns in 22 LR and 22 magnum. No 10-22s but 2 SR 22s and one Mark 3 Ruger.

I did a video on the Lakefield mk1. Those Mark rifles are Canadian in origin.
