@@stevefarris9433 Nice Steve. Another reason I like to shoot 22LR is my accuracy is so much better. Follow up shots hit the target. I have a Sig P365 semi auto pistol in 9mm & the follow up shots are not where I want them because of the recoil. I have 22LR semi auto pistols I shoot that I'm very accurate with so my thought is to get the 22LR LCR simply because they work. Already had one round that did not load correctly in my 22LR semi auto ( Ruger SR22 ) at the range & it took about 2 minutes to clear the chamber. One round out of the 400 I've fired thru it but it showed me a revolver in this case would be so much faster to get off the rounds if a bad round happened. It holds 13 rounds but all it would take is a bad round & its chamber is blocked.

The sole purpose of the civilian self defense gun is to cause a break in contact. To enable the defender to get away from a threatening violent situation. Will a reliable 22 meet that requirement? Probably so.

exactly....totally agree I see people talk about carrying a primary concealed gun, a backup gun, speed loaders or extra magazines, a flashlight and sometimes even a fighting knife. When I read that I wonder what they actually think occurs in the majority of civilian concealed carry defensive shootings and what they actually think they'll do if involved in one? I would imagine it's a pretty unrealistic view or scenario in their mind. Defend yourself and egress. Run away after stopping the threat. Four or five .22LR rounds to the chest and face of a criminal intent on doing harm will stop them.

The two concerns I have with all of these guns is the noise factor and recoil control. Noise factor is a huge elephant in a house room firefight. Effective control of recoil for consistent accuracy is another matter. With semi-autos, FTF and FTE clearing issues can be added as well. None of those concerns are .22LR revolver issues. Eight rounds of effective premium .22LR in a snubby revolver makes more sense these dayze. Just ordered an LCR22. I shall see ....

States like Massachusetts, California, New York and Connecticut that have magazine capacity restrictions don't effect a guns overall capacity. They only effect the capacity of the magazine itself. That's why the law actually talks about " magazine " capacity and not " firearm " capacity. This is also why it's legal to carry 10+1 rds for semi autos. The extra round in the chamber doesn't make it illegal because the law is specifically about the magazine only. When it comes to revolvers the cylinder is not considered a magazine so if someone actually made an 11rd 22lr revolver it would not be considered illegal.

Good presentation. Liked the inclusion of simplicity for new and often female shooters. Been teaching LE and new basic course for 30 years. I have gals come to class with guns bought by husbands or boyfriends, and almost always semi autos in heavy calibers. Most of these shooters are intimidated by them and can’t even work the slide. My standard recommendation, when asked, is a simple, compact, 38 spl in a double action revolver. If you can’t make the gun work on the range, you’re not going to do an immediate action in a stressful event. This is a nice revolver. Been researching a new carry gun and I think this is it. Thanks for the review. You validated a lot of my previous observations.

The question few seem to be asking is, what actually stops someone from continuing to do what they are doing? If the blast, psychological knowledge they've been hit, or a direct hit to the CNS doesn't stop them, the most common impairment of mammals or people is blood vessel hemorrhaging due to tissue damage. Blood pressure will drop and the consciousness will fade. If you cannot reliably pop the CNS for lights-out, then the next best thing is functional organs and hemorrhaging. Can the .22 do it? Yes. Not as quickly or readily as an expanded .45 but it'll still do it, provided some tough tissue or bone didn't stop it. Poachers use it for deer, but that's usually CNS hits, and that's not anywhere the same example as a dangerous criminal attempting to cause you grave harm and you have little time to react.

I'm older and I have chronic wrist problems. I tried the kel-tec p32 because I heard it had low recoil, but in my opinion it doesn't. The next step down I'm considering is an LCR 22 magnum. If that doesn't work, I'd go 22lr. Do you know if the magnum has much recoil (not for a fit person, but for someone with wrist pain)?
@michaelprosser34662 жыл бұрын
22 mag recoil is only very slightly more than 22LR. The noise of a 22 mag is 5 fold over 22LR. The mag will be more effective though

I've heard that the centerfire versions of the LCR have a fantastic trigger; however, I've also heard mixed reviews on the 22lr & 22wmr rimfire versions. It appears that some people get great rimfire triggers and others get horrifically stout triggers (that often cause them to sell the gun and get something else). I'd love a 22lr LCR, but I'd have to physically try it first (with snap caps, of course).

I have the 22lr and 327 Federal versions, and the trigger pull on the 22lr is noticeably heavier (as it needs to be), but I find it smooth and manageable. I will say, however, that if I take both to the range, I will start with the 22lr and not vice versa ;-).

Mine is a .22lr conversion unit, on a Sig P938 pocket 9mm. However, those are rare, so I recomend the taurus PT22, as a PRACTICE gun for the CM9 Kahr pocket 9mm. or maybe the Ruger LCP 22. I dont have any experience with the Ruger, so that recommendation is not based upon anything but the Ruger Repution. i do not trust the TP22 to be reliable enough to carry and NO .22, 32, or 380 or .38 snub. They are all too feeble to bet your life upon. I dont recommend normal 9mm ammo, either. Only the Interceptor and the Liberyt Arms 50 gr, 2000 fps solid copper hp are worth a hoot from 3" barrels.

What about the very long trigger reset on this LCR 22? In a high stress defense, that could be a problem that you wouldn't fully reset the trigger after each shot?
@optimistprime275110 ай бұрын
Proper trigger training. Reset your finger after each shot and let the trigger fully reset. Short stroking the trigger is user error not the gun.

Is is normal for the LRC 22LR (no hammer spur) to have a large cylinder gap when firing ? I just purchased one and realized it later. When you pull the trigger it seems like the cylinder does not move forward to meet up with the barrel very much, even after pulling the trigger all the way through and holding it back so it doesn't reset there's alot of visibly light therefore space between the cylinder and barrel. I appreciate your time spent in responding, thanks

Two inch barrel and 22lr is the combo you picked ? That’s interesting, nothing against 22 rimfire I carry a MAA black widow that has a 2” barrel, fat grips and very usable sights (better than the Ruger) There’s 22 mag ammunition that will get over 900 fps out of a two inch barrel, imo that constitutes a legit snub nose. A 22lr with same two inch barrel will get you close enough velocity to get it done. The face is a good target as it’ll easily go through to membrane that got them in trouble to begin with Not what you want against an armed attacker someone with a hi capacity 9mm will have you wanting nothing but cover…being out gunned is a thing and you don’t want to be in that

I don't think sights matter for self defense. If you have enough time to aim carefully, you are likely far enough away to not have to shoot. Only shoot someone if they are coming at you in a threatening way and in that case just point the gun and pull the trigger until it is empty.

@@TheConcealedCarryChannel I hear that. I was lucky: my local BX on base, which had few guns some months back, happened to have this one as one of the few. And I already had my dear departed Dad’s LCR in 38 Special and wanted to train with the 22LR version. But I’ve fallen in love with this 22LR version. It’s reliable, light and easy to shoot. And I’m more likely to pocket carry this one than the 38 Special. And as you said, being in California, I can still carry it, and the 8 round capacity is nice (as opposed to the 5 rounds on the 38 Special version). This will probably become my go-to EDC pocket carry, both as back-up and sometimes just as what I will likely stick in my pocket when I’m going out. No, it’s not as good as my two full size Glocks (22 and 31), but much easier to conceal and much more likely to be what I will have on me.
