Ruger SR22 It's Really Hard Not To Like This Gun - First Mag
The Ruger SR22 has what I like to call the baby Yoda effect. You can't help finding this gun incredibly adorable, considering how small it is. On the surface, adorable may seem like a negative thing depending on who you talk to, but adorable is a good thing in this sense if you ask me.
When you see baby Yoda, you can't help but smile. In comparison, it's tough not to smile while shooting such a small yet capable firearm, the Ruger SR22.

I bought this gun 2 years ago for my daughter when she was 12. She wanted to shoot but the 9mm recoil scared her. She loves shooting now. And she say dad can we go to the range this weekend. Family 👪 bonding time. Its a good firearm.

Everyone should learn how to shoot...good job Dad! It is hard to get kids to pay attention these days. My daughter just turned twelve...she can shoot a bb gun, a bow, throw knives and use a blowgun. When she isn't so scared, I have the perfect little 410 shotgun for her...the one I got 38 years ago when I was 5. Still has the bluing.

Excellent Father and daughter time I have a daughter who is 12 and she’s been shooting my S&W22 Victory for four years! My 10 year old son on the other hand has been shooting it only 3 years but now he has a 15-22 and a Heritage Rough Rider mostly to conserve ammunition but he really loves loading and unloading it he finally shot my AR-15 this year and at 75&80 yards he can blast h20 bottles and shaving cream cans with only a Romeo green dot

I've had my SR22 since they first came out, it still has "SR22 Pistol" marked on it instead of simply "SR22". It's seen many thousands of rounds and has introduced a half dozen people to the joys of shooting. If I could change anything on the pistol I'd add an ambi slide release and either flip the safety the right way or just make it a spring-loaded decocker. Either way I personally use it only as a decocker, as double actions really don't need a safety, and my personal example isn't a daily carry and thus isn't kept loaded while away from the field or range.

Owned one of these a few years back. Sold it in short order. The trigger was less than mediocre. The 'reverse' safety was a non-starter for me and not something I wanted to become overly familiar with. It's a fun little plinker, but there are better options available on the market.

The SR22 is a double-action pistol. That should be the only system used on semi-auto handguns, it can be carried with a round in the chamber and safety off with zero chance of discharging because of the increased trigger pull. Glock started the whole thing of safety in the trigger which has led to more many accidental shootings than anyone is willing to admit, including I would bet Ashli Babbitt who was murdered by the National Capitol Police on Jan 6.
@lordofthewoods
@lordofthewoods 3 жыл бұрын
I like mine, BUT, the double action pull is just TOO MUCH for my "atha-ritis" (shout-out to Fred : ) Both weight AND amount of travel... my finger GIVES OUT before it releases. I'm afraid to pull my pull-gauge on it, because it FEELS like more than 12 pounds. The SR22 was my first choice when I was looking for something like this; second was a Walther P22 (felt the double-action on one; it wasn't so heavy but otherwise crappy trigger feel), third, the Taurus TX22. Happened across a full-size M&P .22 (o.o.p., but was actually manufactured by Walther in Germany) before I spotted a Ruger, and IT is a JEWEL! Single-action only (via a concealed hammer), and that single-action release may be even BETTER than my 30 year-old 5926 (the "Sig & Wesson")... which is KILLER! Plus, the M&P matches EVERY dimension of the 5926 EXCEPT weight (w/16 rds. loaded each, 5926 is 44oz., whereas the M&P .22 is 25oz.), and I mean EXACT profile, overall dimensions, grip angle, and backstrap shape. Of course, when I went to pick up the M&P after the wait, THERE SAT AN SR22 IN THE CASE, so I "had to" buy it too : ) But, side-by-side, so far, I'd take the M&P any day... just note that I don't think I'd like the M&P COMPACT version... even saw one when I was still looking for the SR22, and turned my nose up at it.

I would trust my life to this gun. I have over 2000 rounds through mine and the only malfunctions I’ve had were ammo related; failed primer ignition, which of course can happen with bulk pack 22lr ammo. But, being a DA/SA gun it has multiple strike capability, and a second strike will usually set off the round. It has both a firing pin block and hammer block making it safe to carry for those so inclined to do so. Besides that it is an excellent way to practice DA/SA shooting.

It's REALLY easy for me to not like it. The de-cocking and no trigger squeeze without a magazine in means that there's no dry fire training. De-cocking when you put it on safe is unsettling. Having a different trigger squeeze on the first round vs the second round... c'mon. KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Ruger made something with great ergonomics yes, but it's a bit like having a car with three on the tree and comfortable seats.

The SR22 gets a Meh from me. My little brother had one, it didn’t like my bulk pack Remington 36gr hollow points, but it gobbled up the CCI 40gr. So I bought a Mark lV 22/45 and the LCP lite rack, and now my bases are covered for .22lr semi-auto pistols.

I've shot my Mk IV for decades, zero issues, but watching all the malfunctions and ammo sensitivity in semi-autos, thinking 22LR now restricted to revolvers. This pistol might be different. Shit, I'm sure I'll need to get one and run a thousand rounds of cheap bulk ammo in order to decide. Shit!
