The REAL reason your EPB fails again and again on your Discovery

Repair videos are abundant on KZbin for the Discovery EPB (electronic parking brake) but too often these repairs don't last. I get mine repaired professionally to discover the hints and tips to where people fail and how to make sure a repair lasts and doesn't cost the earth.

Great Vid, Lot's of tip's there, keep them coming, ?Did you know that all D3 back splash plates have a notch in them, so the service technician knows where the shoe adjuster is when assembled to there adjustment. :) 9:03 in to the vid.

The best way to prevent your EPB from going wrong is to only have an Automatic Disco 3/4 and use the ‘P’ on it, without the need to ever use the EPB, other than MOT day or maybe once per month just to stop it seizing up.

But if you don’t use it, it will seize up and you only find out at the MOT. After 19 years owning and maintaining my 05 D3, my recommendation is to use it all the time. And at say 2 year intervals check the adjustment of the shoes. Tempting fate - at 195k miles I am on same EPB and second set of shoes. Never had the squeal.

@@barrieneill410 Interesting. I also have an 05 Disco (Automatic) which i have had for 8 years. No problems with the EPB so far. I just use about once/month to keep it unseized. However also have a RR 2010 RR Sport and forgot to use the EPC for 6 months. It then needed unseizing. That was 6 years ago and no probs since. I had a Manual Disco that put the EPB on every time you take the keys out. It was such a pain and would start squealing every 6 months, requiring it to be reset, that I took the fuse out except for MOT days.

Use it every time and it will never sieze! No risk then of forgetting a "monthly" exercise of the system.

@@hairyfool7361 Can’t agree. I’ve spent fortunes on Manual Discovery EPB’s. It got so bad that I pulled the fuse out to stop it coming on every time I took the keys out of the ignition. With the Auto, I just use P and preserve the EPB by only very occasionally using it.

Subaru owners did that but then at inspection found it was corroded solid 😞

Great video. Just tackled mine. What is the white grease inside the epb? And can I use cv grease?

I wouldn't use CV grease as it's designed for metal. You need a plastic grease.

My Landy's EPB [Electronic 🙄 Parking Brake] has NEVER WORKED. Probably because it doesn't have any such nonsense fitted. It is a 1987 Military-spec "NINETY" that conforms to the original Land Rover ethos of keeping things simple and repairable without expensive workshop facilities or services.
