This time we're in Munich and using what we have learned so far to gain high scores in Mini Motorways, even if it involves ruining the life of one resident to save the others... From the makers of Mini Metro comes Mini Motorways! A highway engineering puzzle game and in this video I, a highway designer of 10 years, see if my real life engineering skills help me become better at the Mini Motorways puzzle game by segregating different colours to fix bad traffic!

I truly love that the circle buildings which are meant to be skyscrapers from above, you call IMAX cinemas. And now when I watched another video of someone saying skyscraper, I was like? What?????? You mean the IMAX cinema????

This isn’t a road game, it is a development control game. Don’t block all development, just guide it. I think you should place roundabouts as soon as you get them. They do nothing while in storage and don’t help with emergency fixes due to their size requirements. Put them down as soon as you get them at potential choke points and they block development. Also run parallel roads next to each other instead of one apart so houses can’t spawn between. Make fake roundabouts using 3x3 road squares so once you get roundabouts they can fill in these spots. In the beginning congestion is ok from odd road configurations if it reduces congestion latter in the game by making it easier to build. I would call these future corridors using road bits. Road bits do nothing while in storage. So lay them out. Tear them up only when required to. Don’t hook up every house but do keep escape passages clear using road bits. Running roads along the side of rivers early on helps block development that can block bridges. And as you know, the more bridges the better! :-)

I fucking love the roundabouts but I am curious- Are there situations in which I should use the traffic lights? I have definitely been underutilizing them but I don't know when to use them and I don't want to have a situation that 'could have been made better if I didn't use them at all'

@@nicestpancake from what i can tell they help on long strips of road when you have a crossroads so that houses don't have to slow down when passing.

@@PierceCarrell yup once there's an intersection the cars will slow down regardless, so adding the traffic lights eliminates the slowing down when they have the green light

@@LindzieBurns Generally traffic lights are good for the really awful crossroads you already have and cant really fix, basically if traffic slows down to a stop almost anyway traffic light will at least make it smoother.

Just a tip: any cross intersection with 4 roads will slow the cars, even if there isnt traffic. You can see it here 1:05

Hey Matt - All shops have to spawn with a 1 square boarder around them, thus allowing so they can have a full use of road access... hope that helps

Quick tip. Each business has a one tile ring all the way around it that is a no build zone (for houses as well as businesses) so no need to block anything within a tile of a business. It's also handy for leaving one space for an emergency road if you need it. Every so often that buffer rule gets broken. A bug I'm guessing, not much you can do about it.

The map will expand quickly when you prevent space for a "Stops" to spawn. This leads to moments when you missed a newly widened area and it left enough space for a new "Stop" and you don't have enough roads to get the houses connected. So at least plan the locations you want the "Stops" to spawn by leaving the space for them to do so.

One thing I've noticed while playing is that all cars slow down when approaching an intersection, even if they're the only car approaching it. Reducing the number of intersections can help boost your score.

Worst of all, it's not the only time that kind of thing happened. Also in China was a house that was refused to be sold for pennies. All the other's around him sold out. The company frustrated that they didn't sell, and ruined their plans to build at that location. So they demolished all the other houses and dug out a 25×16 meter pit all around the house. Four weeks later they ended up having to abandon the house, when heavy rains fell and started filling up the pit, and after 2 days the house collapsed into the pit/lake. The home owner got nothing AND the construction company got a deep pond.

A nice way to manipulate spawning using Road is to use single road tiles. Since they take up two spaces and adding onto the roads only adds one space.

That house shown was actually quite a while ago and has been knocked down. However, there is a similar incident as of last year. The Haizhuyong bridge has been built around a house. Known as nail houses. Went on a rabbit hole journey last year in lockdown when I found out about them 😅

In the beginning, in that 4-way junction, the cars slow down regardless of the traffic. If one maximizes the number of 3-way junctions in order to minimize the 4-way intersections probably survives a bit longer In the late game. Love the content of this channel.

10:10 The story Matt is referencing isn't from a Chinese airport but rather a Japanese airport. It's called the Sanrizuka Struggle; in 1971 the Japanese government built the Tokyo Narita airport on top of existing village farmland and the land-seizure was protested by the Japanese Communist and Japanese Social Democratic parties. Five houses still exist on top of/within the airport to this day, and one still actually farms the land.

Pro tips don't just separate colors but make sure that each house can only potential go to one supermarket also only spawn block the areas right next to your roads so you aren't forced to move any roads because supermarkets spawn next to them

Watching cars at the right angle turn to many houses they slow down a lot vs what they seem to do at a separate y split later. Not sure if its related to the angle of the turn, # of turns at that location (3 way split usually), # of nearby turns, cars around them during the turn, or maybe just speeds near the house. Hoping Motorway Matt can clarify and push us up the leaderboard in future rounds. If not wanting to do a performance analysis, you could show off drone delivery and other nice upgrades with video editing. ;P Thanks for the series.

I've had orange cranberry bread. It's pretty good. I imagine orange bread without the cranberries would be alright. Perhaps toasted with some butter and marmalade. Really orange it up. Hey Matt I think you would love to hear that my city built traffic lights at a roundabout :) We are dying over here. The traffic is 10 times worse. Didn't even realize this many people used this road until recently.

There really needs to be an update in which the devs add an option to choose a filter or a security guard, which basically blocks a road to a specific color and the real problem in the late game are the double plots as they mix colours even if you have them totally segregated so a person might use 2 double plots to go to a system not connected to their own which is what happened at the end

nah, to be even more realistic, the game could allow you to bulldoze less colored houses (in the EM spectrum, you know what color is the most colored color in the EM spectrum) with roads and shit.

For things like 9:01 or when you connected the second pink its usually best to separate even different shops of the same colour i.e. having 2 white houses do the left side shop and 2 for the right with no connection and the same for the pinks as it reduces congestion at intersections coming in and out of where the houses are

Maybe make your pointer bigger? I know when you're trying to point things out to us and you circle it with the mouse, the pointer is super difficult to see.
