This is a gem. Over two years since I watched it the first time and now I’m better and can absorb things I couldn’t back then. Thank you! And..if anyone is reading this, I highly recommend subscribing as a Patreon as there are other videos over there on this topic that are so very worth the $8!!

Hi Alexey, its an absolutely high quality lesson!!! I love your teaching strategy: you highlighted the key points to capture our attention, you then demonstrated it clearly and you finished the lesson in a high note ...Each of your lesson adds another dimension to my learning and understanding of Latin. Thank you Alexey and I am looking forwards to watching the next clip.

Been dancing for a number of years. Decided during the virus shutdown we decided to go back to the basics and start working on PROPER footwork. It’s hard to unlearn bad habits . Thanks for your help

Good idea to go back to basics and dive deep into the foundation. You should check out my “rumba fundamentals” course it’s all about fundamental actions. It’s going to be out on August 1. Visit my website if you’re interested. BallroomwithAlexey.com

I know quite a bit on the technique of the International Latin rumba walks. You probably know Walter Laird. He put the "T" in rumba walk technique, and I think I got this. Especially in the forward rumba walks. 1. If I want to do a forward walk starting on the back foot, my LF and leg, I start out with my RF and leg free, in front of the L leg and LF. 2. Walter Laird said that the walk is taken on a straight leg from the time the unweighted leg and foot "strides forward", and stays straight as it is now weight-transferred to full weight (the L foot and leg). The L leg and LF stays straight as the RF and leg "flexes". (That's the free foot and leg) 3. Not until the RF now becomes straight as it goes forward in front of LF--not until then--that the LF and L leg now "bends" from being straight as this RF and R leg does its forward walk. 4. Also, when the forward walks happen, there is a necessary leg and foot line. There needs to be no observable separation between the legs when doing the forward walk. If there is separation, then you are not doing the International rumba walk correctly. Exceptions here---like if you are doing championship level dancesport, you do the rumba walks forward with no leg separation, and then you suddenly explode your legs into a quarter split stretch---to prepare for the cucaracha or something---that's all right. But be sure the legs do not separate when doing the walks themselves.

Alexey, I absolutely love your teaching videos. Do you teach standard as well? Regarding Rumba walks, when move forward on 2, then the & action , do you turn out your back foot when you collect your back foot forward?
@ballroomwithalexey39516 жыл бұрын
Bing Sun, I am very glad you like the videos and thank you for great question. Yes i am turning out my foot slightly, because of the hip rotation 👍🏻 And Latin is my Main stile, I do dance standard but I prefer Latin :) What about you ? Do you dance both styles ?
@bingsun10176 жыл бұрын
I see, so the turn out foot is the reaction of hip action. Thanks for your quick answer. I watch and practice with your video every night.

Hi thank you for the video. You are great. I would like to ask your advise: when I do such movements with tennis they are ok but when I have to use dance shoes with 5cm heels I cannot. Thank you in advance for your kind attention. Daniela
@ballroomwithalexey39516 жыл бұрын
Daniela Thank you very much for your feedback and the great question! You are dealing with totally normal situation, it is a lot harder to keep your balance in the heels rather than in tennis shoes. My recommendation for you will be to keep practicing slow and consistently, with your heels on. Be patient and little by little you will improve! 😉 Thank you again for your comment😊✌🏻

Will strengthening the leg muscles with the leg exercises help? My personal experience seems to be that tightening the inner part of thigh muscles (unsure of the name of the muscle group) all the time helps a ton with balancing.

For American Style Rumba, same concept Alexey?
@ballroomwithalexey39516 жыл бұрын
for American rumba concept is going to be slightly different, you are going to transfer your weight on the band knee, and only after you will straighten it.

Why rumba counting from 2, but not 1
@ballroomwithalexey39513 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question, in rumba our count “1” is the silent one, it is connected with “4” and becomes it “4-1” 4-1 is slow count, 2 and 3 are quick.
