I've always wondered why they are there. Now I know. Thank you!

Rumble strips (also known as sleep strips or warning strips) are road safety features to warn non -potential drivers of danger, by causing tactile vibrations and roaring noises heard through the wheels into the interior of the vehicle. Thunder lanes are used along the direction of travel following the curb or center line, to warn drivers as they drift from their lane. Rumble lanes can also be installed in a network crossing the direction of travel, to warn drivers about stops or slows ahead, or approaching danger spots.

You guys are using them wrong. They are on the outer edges to warn you if you are drifting or sleeping. They are on the surface ONCE to warn of an unexpected oncoming issue that needs attention like a heavy animal crossing.

does it damage the car? should you slow down ?
@LearningSpace_mk Жыл бұрын
Consistent and high intensity vibrations definitely aren't good for the car. In fact one of the intention of rumble strips is to make the driver slow down the vehicle. So, yes, we should slow down.

Could actually feel the rumbling tremors being transmitted through my phone screen, Sir. 😄 There used to be rumble strips at every round-about in Chandigarh but later they were also converted into the conventional speed breakers.

LOL. Seems "Thumping" the vehicles must have reduced speed better than mere "Rumbling".

@@LearningSpace_mk And infact, the young crowd is already in love to induce the rumbling effect to shake their car interiors with bass boost woofers. So, these rumble strips give a more realistic Dolby Atmos experience to their rumbling beat drop music. 😅

Plz government remove those rumble strips...it's highly frustrating...that much shake is not good for our spine...and it's totally causing headache for us....that whole vibration passed to teeth and head and causing headache....y manufacturers are giving shock absorber to vehicle...to absorb such vibrations and to be backache free....with rumble strips that purpose is gone...pl remove those
@LearningSpace_mk3 жыл бұрын
Will suggest lowering down the speed of vehicle when you approach the strips. Yes, undoubtedly the vibrations caused are too intense at times.
@jakal15912 жыл бұрын
Well I was wondering why you said it...but after watching the video I can see the strips are quite thick. Normally they're supposed to make a noise rather than a jolt like this.

The rumble strip is very dangerous, I experienced 4 times the speed wobble and almost crashed my bike because of it
@LearningSpace_mk3 жыл бұрын
Please slow down to 30Km/Hr or may be even less when you approach one. You are right, for two wheelers its quite wobbly!

Should one speed over such stripes or slow down?
@LearningSpace_mk3 жыл бұрын
Answer is in your question - 'slow down' to a speed of 40Km/Hr when driving a four wheeler.

They are a nuisance & waste of public money. They don't slow traffic, but instead damage vehicle tires, suspension, sensitive electronic components & also the passengers health because they rattle your spine and can cause lower back & neck fatigue, especially for daily riders. Imagine the plight of elderly people who's bodies are forced to rattle over them. With speed breakers you have the option to slow down. But a rumbler will shake you up no matter what speed. And their effect is not uniform - small vehicles like bikes can go out of control, while big vehicles like buses won't feel them as much. So what's the point of slowing down a bike at a place where you can't slow down a bus or a lorry? It's actually more dangerous! In other countries, rumblers are installed on the sides of the road to wake a sleeping or inattentive driver from going off his lane. PWD should ponder over these things than blindly copying western innovations.

You are right, we in India use them inappropriately.
