This rumchata easy homemade recipe starts with a homemade horchata
Today we are learning how to make homemade Rumchata, Horchata's boozy big sister!
Rumchata is a drink traditionally made from rice, water, and almonds. The recipe we are making today is from my good friend Vino, over at @CoachVinoLLC . When I saw Vino's version, I knew it was going to be worth trying! Also worth noting, Coach Vino has an awesome youtube channel that is worth a follow, AND a great podcast all about mental health and wellbeing.

So today, we are making Vino's Rumchata, and then we are making two variations on this rumchata: one horchata with brown rice, and another horchata with coconut cream for a dairy free version. The dairy free rumchata is a good option if you do not have heavy cream or milk.
2 Cups Hot Water
1 Cup Long Grain White Rice
1/2 Cup Sugar2 Cinnamon Sticks
1 Cup Heavy Cream
1 Cup Dark Rum1tsp Vanilla Extract
Alternatives:
Long Grain Brown Rice
Coconut Cream

I am a bit surprised the brown rice wasn't that much different... Great experiment! Love your sweatshirt! You are braver than I am... I wear it in the kitchen and I know I'm going to fuck up, so I take it off constantly to not ruin it... Also, I'm not really a podcast person either... I listened to one during the pandemic, but now the only ones I follow are from people I know from youtube...

I was surprised too!! I thought for sure it would taste different, but really wasn’t noticeable at all. Vino’s recipe is great- good at cocktails, good at life. 🙌🥃

I really like the peppermint rum Chatta that you can only get at Christmas. Would I just add peppermint oil maybe? And does it need to be stored in the refrigerator? And what is the shelflife? I really enjoy listening to you and trying your recipes. Thanks so much.

Yes, I would add 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract. It’s pretty potent stuff, so start small, and then if it’s not enough maybe bump up to a whole tsp, and so on. I think you might also want to add a touch more sugar to balance out the other flavors if you’re going to add peppermint. So maybe 3/4 a cup, rather than half. Let me know how it goes!!

With brown rice it’s basically a health food and you can feel good about drinking several shots a day every day. Get your fiber, b vitamins, and so much more!

I agree with you, you are not a monster and i was laughing at the nut milk bag right with you 😂. Serious question what is the approximate shelf life on this, about the same as store bought?

Hi can you use dark rum
@daviddeane3163

You can use whatever spirit you want. It's your drink, make it how you think you might like it. Make it your own. Use rum, gin, vodka, bourbon, whiskey.....experiment. Search for other recipies, you can't imagine how many drinks you cab make at home.

You can absolutely use dark rum :) Use something you enjoy and/or have on hand, and adjust from there!! Cheers 🥃
