What are your thoughts on the rumored S1R II? Is it a camera you would be interested in? What video specs do you want to see Panasonic bring to the table?

I really enjoy the design of lumix cameras all clean and fresh. I love updates of keep coming back to those cameras. I have S5MIIX and S9. Waiting to completed my collection with S1HII. I will buy a second hand GH5 to put on the shelf because that's camera I starting a lot of money for my company in the beginning of my company career! Love your channel for always being a real one about your thoughts!

One thing about debayering (RAW data) is, that you only get 4:2:0 sampling after that anyway. Reason why BRAW also is 4:2:0 only. So basically the difference between Blackmagic is: 12 bit 4:2:0 with RAW metadata vs. 10 bit 4:2:0 without metadata.
@jessecumberledge45304 күн бұрын
I am almost positive BRAW is 12bit 4.2.2. You get way better color separation and ability to grade, vs any h.264/265 codec I have used.
@DennisSchmitz3 күн бұрын
Braw is a 4:2:0 YCbCr DCT codec. But at native resolution after debayer there is 0 loss. The big advantage here is the 12 bit log encoding and much lower amount of chroma filtering and other processing in comparison to internal recording. After downsampling from 8K to 6K you’d need a 4:2:2 codec and from 8K to 4K a 4:4:4 codec to avoid any loss.

Lumix and Leica have worked very closely on many of their cameras, I think it's bizzare to call the Lumix the "poor man" version though as they are usually more feature packed at a lower price. Rumour is that there is an "S" model of the Leica. I think all of these indicate future Lumix releases. I'd personally like an update to the S1 camera, this was the perfect middle ground for a cam with strong video and photo, but slightly less expensive than the video focused model.
@JamesJacksonFilmz3 күн бұрын
@@ScreenFiends do you think they would update it since the S5 series kinda took that spot over?
@LukeBrownFigmentoFilms2 күн бұрын
@JamesJacksonFilmz Probably not, there was a clear marketable distinction between the high res model and the S1H. It wasn't until much later the S1 life that they updated it with features that made it a more viable option. Where I thought they could have repurposed the S1 would have been speed, a camera dedicated to sports/ wildlife with high burst rates etc They have a telephoto lens on their lens map. However, I don't believe this will happen due to cost and market share. I think we'll get 2 high power cams and hopefully the next S5 will finally get rid of the crop at 60p.

Highly doubt there'll be an open-gate 8K mode on the S1Rii, at least one that's usable, rolling-shutter wise. 8K at a 16:9 or 17:9 crop is already realllllly wobbly on the cameras supposedly using the same sensor (A7R4&5, Leica SL3); reading the entire sensor would be even worse. What practical limits have you yourself encountered with 10-bit 4:2:0 versus 4:2:2? Or is that more of a "numbers did not go up, must be bad" type criticism? I've had nothing but smooth sailing with it from my S1 and S5iiX. Plays and cuts smoothly on fairly modest hardware and I have yet to hit any walls with color that werent there in the 4:2:2 clips in the aame project. Also your backing track is way too loud.

@@aldolega hey thanks for the question. For me I have found 2 issues with 10 bit 420 vs 10 bit 422. The first is from a grading standpoint, I find that cameras with 420 10 bit fall apart quicker especially regarding skin. They also don’t come off as natural. For example when I had the Panasonic GH6 I notice the skintones seemed more blotchy in the open gate 10 bit 420 vs the H264 10 bit 422 (not even bringing in ProRes just yet) The second issue is 10 bit 420 slows my computer down much more than 10 bit 422 even if it’s an HEVC codec. Hope that helps

@JamesJacksonFilmz For me, on a 12700K and 3060 12GB, 30p 4:2:0 h265 plays perfectly, the 4:2:2 h264 can get a bit laggy. Your issue might have more to do with having or not having hardware acceleration support for h264 vs h265.
@JamesJacksonFilmz2 күн бұрын
@@aldolega the same issues are on the m4 MacBook Pro which does have it. But again my bigger issues is the grading breaks down far quicker from my experience. But each his own

I couldn't care less about the video specs of the S1Rii since the 'R' models are Lumix's high resolution photo-focused flagship cameras. This next photo camera really should be 80% photo / 20% video featured. Photography performance has been developed/marketed mostly as an afterthought by Lumix. They go 'all out' for videographers; photographers, not so much. Lumix really needs to hit a home run by making the S1Rii (or whatever the name will be) a versatile photography powerhouse to satisfy us shooters who use Lumix primarily for serious photography. We're already a rare breed. Lumix just may neglect us into extinction 💀😂 if they don't give us what we're asking for. Then they can proceed to trying to satisfy the wild specs & features requests of their video-centric user base. lol
