@@TvBoxHeadMaybe. But i also take advantage of the APS-C crop to get more tele. Tele of Tele zooms lenses tend to be pretty heavy, especially on the gimbal. A razor sharp prime becomes more versatile as well. And in some scenarios i used crop to get closer for macro. But i agree, 60fps no-crop would be nice. But hopefully we get both.

@@CameraRigThe Lumix S5 II presents notable contradictions in performance. It is credited with amazing color science despite having less color range than 4:2:2 in 6k. It boasts about stabilization but comes with rolling shutter problems. Given that a majority of professional work is done on tripods, how often will you utilize IBlS if it has to be mounted for work? You can compensate for ibis but you cannot compensate for rolling shutter and unreliable auto focus. It seems as if all its advantages come with compromises and caveats, which begs the question: what advantage does it actually have over the competition (Sony)? In contrast, the Sony A7s3 maintains consistency across features, boasting no rolling shutter, outstanding low-light performance, and reliable long-term autofocus suitable for extensive professional use. The absence of a 4K crop at any frame rate ensures consistent wide-angle coverage, allowing you to utilize 100% of the entire focal length of your lenses. Features like Clear Image Zoom achieve stable images somewhat comparable to the Lumix S5 ll despite the crop factor (lumix is already cropped so it helps with the illusion of stability). The Sony ecosystem advantage allows substantial cost savings and seamless integration within Sony's camera lineup, catering to various production needs such as seamless color matching without sacrificing image quality.

@TvBoxHead
@TvBoxHead 3 ай бұрын
@thelabnificentmediagroup4832 s5ii seems to fit me best only for handheld personal projects. Not so much the best all around system for professional work. Everything it offers comes with drawbacks. I can't trust AF won't lose subject after long hours of sitting on a tripod. The subject could just be sitting there and suddenly it randomly loses focus and it only gets worst the longer the shoot gets or if the environment gets hotter which happens using studio lights or if the subject moves their hands a lot when they talk. Panning is not good at all. rolling shutter is so problematic for shooting anything fast like cars or sports in general and to pair that with the AF system makes it that much worst and unusable. This is even more noticeable with wider lenses. Speaking of wider lenses, you cant use your widest focal length in all modes because of a crop which is a deal breaker for me considering the price you pay for a wide prime which the L mount has very limited options of. 6k open gate 4:2:0 has less color depth than 10bit 4:2:2 in 4k, but it looks nicer out of the box than most sonys without color grading. The only notable compromise with the a7s3 was the price but after borrowing the s5ii I would much rather pay the extra price for a better auto focus and to use my widest focal length in all modes without a crop. That price comes with a peace of mind. The only benefit of the ibis is that you don't have use a gimbal when you're following a subject but that doesn't matter if AF loses the subect or if you're mounted to a tripod which most of the time during professional gigs you will be. You can always compensate for stabilization with a gimbal, but there is no substitute for inconsistent AF and poor rolling shutter performance. A7s3>S5ii for all around professional work. S5ii> a7s3 for content creators and hobbyist.

I went from my Fuji Xt4s to the Panasonic S5II and so far it's been a steal of an upgrade. It's a Fuji XH2s competitor if not killer, and because of my experience with Fuji's apsc sensor, it's not a big compromise using the Lumix's crop modes. Let everyone else get the new stuff; I'll be using Lumix for the foreseeable future and will dig into the used Lumix lens market when people trade their delicious stuff in.

I own both and the s5ii isn't an xh2s killer at all. It does offer some video-centric features that the Fuji doesn't but the Fuji's image is better. If you're talking xt4's then yes, the s5ii is absolutely better but the xh2s has insane DR, very low rolling shutter ( something the s5ii suffers from ), 4k 120p, awesome color science, amazing codecs, and a better photo experience IMO.
@CameraRig
@CameraRig Ай бұрын
@joshblck1 I checked CineD for the rolling shutter and DR. The rolling shutter of the xh2s is indeed really low but it is also APS-C. The dynamic range in medium is a little bit less than the S5II but it is very extremely impressive for an APS-C sensor. Even the Lumix GH7 cannot achieve that much DR. You can get more bokeh with a full frame sensor but you get also more rolling shutter and slower IBIS as compromise. 🐣
@joshblck1
@joshblck1 Ай бұрын
@@CameraRig that DR number is without any NR. Gerald Undone’s review said with a little bit of noise reduction he still got 14+ stops of DR which was the most from any camera he’s tested. The nice thing about Fuji is their noise looks very filmic so often times people choose to just leave it in. It’s true that you can get more bokeh with a FF camera but there’s plenty of 1.2 APSC lenses for the x mount that give you a 1.8 FF equivalent. I don’t know that many scenarios where someone really needs a 1.2 or 1.4 when shooting video. I’m not trying to say that the s5ii is a bad camera at all. I just don’t think most people truly know what APSC cameras or Fuji is capable of because of YT.
@CameraRig
@CameraRig Ай бұрын
@joshblck1 yes, I definitely agree with the marketing. As many people think Lumix has the worst AF, many don't know that you can use Fuji for video. Also true regarding the aperture. Most professionals shoot at Full-Frame f4 which is maybe APS-C f2.8. Personally, I like filming at night with the Sigma 35mm f1.2 but that's a very special use case. I really like Gerald Undone's tests, as they are very factual. But he did the NR also with the Z6III and that's only partly subjective. I can also record at ProRes RAW with the S5IIx and apply heavy NR. Looking at the CineD numbers, the XH2s will leave me more highlights than the S5IIx and has just a tiny bit more noise at the medium. So you are right, it gets closer to professional cameras. But CineD is still missing the QE for the light sensitivity of the sensor. I assume SNR is only for the overall range that can be captured but does not define at what exposure. I bet the XH2S is superb when filming on a sunny day will capture all the details of the clouds. But when it gets to sunset or dawn, the ISO of APS-C needs to be increased. A full frame sensor with larger sensels can capture then the scene with a lower iso. But the same goes for the S5IIX with it's stoneage sensor. Does the latest Canon or Sony camera perform better and gives you less noise because their sensor is newer and you can shoot at lower ISO while you need to turn up the ISO on the S5IIx? For people filming in controlled environments it's no issue but with only natural light it matters. 🤔 Thank you for comments, you definitely got me to think. 😎

If people cannot shoot good video with GH7 and think they need full frame to be better, then its a skill issue, not a gear issue, considering the GH7 has better dynamic range and low ISO performance than Canon 5DM3 with magic lantern. Personally, I notice a lot of people want to switch gear are not actually involved in any video or photo work. In my day GH1 was mind blowing with the hack, entire movies have been shot in it and no one is any wiser, pictures thats sold millions have been taken with GH1, sensor size is irrelevant, its just a tool at the end. There is only one camera I have immense GAS for, Panasonic G100M2

@@SMGJohn definitely, it is not wise to switch camera to become better. Most of the time, lighting is what makes a great image and even a phone is enough. Full-Frame can make sense, if your work requires it and if you want it's features, like better dynamic range, great low-light, more background blur etc. This has of course some downsides, like worse stabilization, costly lenses, and more. So the decision between the S5IIX and the GH7 which can record internal raw (and does it crop at 4k60p?) is not easy. 🤔

@@CameraRig Panasonic S5M2 and Canon R8 are arguably probably best content creator cameras, very good autofocus, a pretty high price but if its your job its not a bad investment, lenses are cheaper on the S5M2 but still VERY expensive comparatively, for R8 you can adapt old Canon EF glass which work surprisingly well and are found super cheap, mint condition 24-105mm F4 for 500 dollars In Japan though I never seen or met any production studio that uses anything but Panasonic GH6 and the GH7 is sold out in every store here, people love micro 4/3 for video work. A lot of JPOP music videos are shot on Panasonic gear and good chunk of commercials as well. Sometimes a big sensor can be detrimental to keeping background blur in control, because in a professional setting you rather not blur background out completely which is why pro camcorders do not have large sensors to begin with and why Hollywood does not shoot very much with full frame gear, even medium format cinema cameras are mostly kept at F11 or F16. For dynamic range and ISO performance I agree, larger sensor is better specially if you need lot of megapixel for professional architecture, landscape and other work that needs it. But most of these buy medium format, not full frame. For average person, these are super overk*ll.

You are absolutely right - especially of course when saying that in the end everybody as individual needs and the perfect camera for everybody doesn't exist. I have owned and loved the Lumix S1H for nearly 3 years, there even was a time when I used it simultaneously to a rented Canon R5. For me Panasonic is the GOAT when it comes to building camera bodys - they are premium quality and can be thrown in any weather conditions. Plus they are very intuitive to use and highly customizable - and have any type of connection and compatibility with external hardware you'd wish for in a modern camera. Their greatest drawback for quite a longtime for me was AF since it becomes frustrating if you see what the R5 was capable of. I also wasn't the greatest fan of the fact that you only could use 4K/60 with APS/C-Crop but you know what - this doesn't bother me that much anymore in these days. Nevertheless I have sold my beloved S1H by the end of 2022 and rooted for Canon quite a bit - but never was completely satisfied with their cameras. Most of the time I've been using the R5 and R6 and absolutely see that they also deliver a great image quality but I don't like that Canon kind of still holds back features from their photo cameras in favor of their cine lineup and their even more expensive photo cameras - e.g. 10bit HLG would have been very nice and the only bodies in their lineup which received this kind of basic feature - a fully established HDR standard - are the R5C and the R5ii. Of course PQ is kind of a big deal in the HDR game and that's what they went for in all of their cameras but I think that HLG is just more versatile for me - and makes way more sense since I can use it on literally any drone and cameras from other manufacturers on that point. Also they lack of XLR compatibility and in the end it also kind of just feels nicer to press the record button on a Lumix compared to a canon - something which also plays a role in the daily user experience in my opinion. In the mean time I would say that Panasonic brought with the S5ii an incredible camera to the table which has an outstanding price-performance ratio - if I had owned that instead of S1H I might even have kept it forever. (On the other hand: I went for S1H in the first place among other features because of the AA Filter and it might have been a good choice when I listen to your extensive recommendation of the Kolari) And you can be quite sure that Panasonic packs literally any feature into their cameras which is technically possible for the hardware. Still it would be nice if they finally upgraded their S1-lineup since especially the phase-detection AF and also features like 4K/120 and more uncropped recording formats are still missing from these cameras. But now I personally think in a different direction. Even if I love Full Frame cameras I get more and more interested in MFT and the GH7 in particular. For me this camera has it all and there are so many promising premium lenses for that ecosystem that I now plan to get fully invested into it in the upcoming year and at the moment I even think that I might never have to look back.

I think it has 4240p and goes then to 3840p which is 4k UHD. This is similar to Panasonic E-Stab normal which will still leave you with more than 4k resolution of pixels. I think the next gen cameras are getting closer to Panasonic stabilization. You are right that the ZV-E1 is a very good value option. I like to adapt my lenses to the camera. I have EF/ FD canon lenses , 1 PL lens and 1 Panasonic L lens (16-35 f/4). PS 6K in RAW and IPB can be different. I am not sure what is the resolution, I have no idea is the S5II capable of shooting 6K IPB. If it is with lower resolution than 6000pixels it might be able to reduce moire a little. For example A7sIII is 4,2K sensor and it is shooting 3840pix video which is slight oversample and is fixing the moire in most cases.

Also in gerald undone's video about the z6iii he did everything he could for the dynamic range and the got compareable to what the s5iix does out of the box (little over 12 stops I guess) however, in his video about the s5ii you can see after adding some noise reduction he got 13.4 stops of dynamic range which if I'm not wrong is class leading (since NR can't be turned off in sonys). Maybe we will see a high-resolution Panasonic Camera with an SL3 sensor someday and a Leica SL3-S with the same sensor as the Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 II with built-in AF sensors. On the other hand, Panasonic is more focused on video, and Leica is more on photography. I'm also unsure if Leica uses CMOSIS Sensors for all its cameras. This was true for some Cameras, but the current SL2-S, SL3, Q3 and M11 sensors look more like a Sony image sensor variant. An yes, I try using my lenses (20-60, 5/1.8, 28-200) at their sweet spot (optimal - closed down - aperture) for maximized sharpness / minimized CA etc. And yet - no major interference issues...

The lumix is perfect on paper, but the way the image looks is extremely digital and the highlight roll off is awful compared to other cameras. I thought it has great highlight roll off? But of course I might be biased as Lumix user. The S5-series has no OLPF. A OLPF can make your footage look more organice, like the Kolari OLPF. Another option is Dehancer as plugin. I filmed the front facing camera with OLPF and the side facing camera without OLPF. Then, I applied some grades and Dehancer to get this look. But all of this is a lot of work.

@@CameraRig I think the images out of the sh1 and s5 look more organic. It’s hard to describe, but the way Panasonic deals with highlights feels very crunchy and digital. It’s a great camera, I just feel like it may limit me more than a bmcc 6k, or x-h2s. The specs are so good on the Panasonic, but I feel like the specs like ibis, af, fan, codecs, are considered more than the image quality when people pick these cameras. Coming from someone who shoots on reds, and had the original blackmagic.. they don’t have many features.. but the sensor and images produce such great quality. It’s hard for me to pick a camera. I think someone who’s starting their journey or may be a few years into it should definitely go with the lumix, it’s so affordable and the image out of the camera is amazing for what it is. @@Stefan_Heinrich I do not know but I think they gradually improve their IBIS as other features. Often people compare the ancient A7SIII with the S5II and conclude Sony has bad IBIS. I quite often film in RAW so the Z6III internal RAW and 4:2:2 ProRes is an easy decision over the Lumix 5SII cameras. And a next gen S1H might be an interesting camera (if it ever comes to market) but the price point will be much higher. It will have to compete with the Z8.

The S5IIx offers ProRes HQ 422 (not RAW) which is also great. But RAW gives you definitely more latitute with the Z6III, but it might have less dynamic range. The S5IIx can record RAW to an external recorder, but this adds cost and the Ninja V can sometimes crash, so I would not use it for live events. In camera RAW, like with the Z6III is definitely useful. I hope Lumix will compete with the Sony A7sIII.
