Well, is it fairly possible that Baelfire was not Rumple's son all along seeing how disappointed Milah is about Rumple's homecoming? Could Milah be engage in another extramarital affair and was displeased that things doesn't go as planned? It could be plausible. What do the other oncers think? :D

angelpurple2000 To be fair, I think he volunteered for the war as opposed to being drafted. He chose to fight, then chose to leave before the fighting even began. But I also think he was lying when he said he left only for self-preservation. Rumple has self esteem issues, and was in the middle of one of his more cynical episodes when he said he left because he was a coward. And Milah didn't want to fight - she just wanted to be able to say she married a fighter. Which is why she left him for a pirate - she wanted a shinier man-purse to show off all over town.

I love how the baby reaches up and touches his nose. Since it's a real baby, I assume that wasn't part of the script, which means the camera caught a genuinely cute moment of that baby reaching out to Robert Carlyle, and he just went with it and kept acting. Makes the scene ten times sweeter. :)

Although I felt a little sad for Milah in season 5 when we met her in the Underworld, she has to be one of my least favorite characters on the show. All she ever did was belittle Rumple and treat him like crap the entire time we saw her alive. Yes, Rumple has made plenty of cowardly choices in his life. But that's really no excuse for the way she treated him. All she cared about was her family's image, and then she selfishly abandoned her own son to be with another man. Rumple may have let Bae go in a moment of panic, but Milah willingly and knowingly left him behind and really did NOTHING to try to fix it, while Rumple spent the next two hundred years of his life trying to make it right. Milah just... wasn't a very nice person... On the other hand, how darn sweet was it to watch Rumple hold Bae for the first time? You can just see the love in his eyes. A very flawed man indeed, but the love he has always had for his son is as true as it gets.

@@littlesongbird1 I think originally they were in love. At least Rumple was. You can see it earlier in this episode or season when Rumple's called to fight. Originally Milah didn't want him to go. Rumple wanted to to prove he wasn't a coward. But what's truly horrible about her is she would rather be a widow, with her son growing up without his dad than be married to a man who just didn't want to die in war. Rumple would have fought had it not been for that seer, so she deserves some blame too.

Just when I thought there was a ounce of common decency in Milah, this scene proved that our first impression of her was right. She disgusts me. When she started calling him a coward, I said "shut up" at exactly the same time as Rumple. What Rumple did he did not out of cowardice but love - something Milah clearly knows nothing about or she wouldn't care what people think and say she'd rather he'd died and she wouldn't have abandoned Bae to go gallivanting off with pirates.

He crippled his own foot, he became the Dark One, he spent centuries trying to organize things so that he could have someone create a curse that would enable him to go to where Bae was and find him, he tried to make amends when he did find him, then carried his son's soul in his own body for a year...and in the end, none of it mattered, because he had to watch Baelfire die in someone else's arms. ABC loves making Rumple's life hell.

Could be, but we don't know what their courtship was like. It could have been an arranged marriage, or "love at first sight," or what have you. Heck, for all we know they were childhood sweethearts. In the opening flashback, she actually seemed hesitant and concerned about Rumple going off to fight, and he had to talk her into being enthusiastic about it. I think she had some sort of love or feeling for him at some point which is why her "I never loved you" statement was all the more hurtful.

well, back in those kind of times wives were basically the property of their husband and couldn't leave them. while Milah was a bitch, I do sympathize with her since she lived a horrible life and while she originally did love Rumple, he wouldn't let them leave to go somewhere where they could be happy because he was afraid. Milah was stuck in a loveless marriage and in a village that treated her and Baelfire like dirt because of her husband who was known as a son of a coward and a coward himself. she couldn't leave Rumple or convince him to leave, so lying was the only shot she had when hook gave her the offer to find somewhere else to be happy and she originally did plan to go back for Bae once they found somewhere where he could be happy but then Rumple became the dark one and...

Before Bae was born and before Rumple went to war, Milah wanted to leave the village WITH Rumple to start a new life somewhere no one knew Rumple as the "coward's son" but Rumple refused out of probably fear of the unknown. Rumple knew Milah wasn't happy and forced her to stay there, so by the time Bae was born and he was crippled she was extremely unhappy and now resentful to Rumple. Was it right for Milah to leave? No, absolutely not. But Rumple gave her no other option, HE was the one stopping them from making a better life somewhere else and pushed Milah, who loved Rumple at the start, to become resentful and to leave him secretly because Rumple WOULDN'T LET HER.

Since Rumple and everyone else they were drafting were probably all peasants not experienced soldiers, they probably spent a good many months training them before they actually met the ogres on the battlefield. Seeing that again, I really think Milah created the Dark Rumple. He was able to injure himself, knowing he would be in constant physical pain, just to be sure he could be with his son and wife, and they won’t become a widow or an fatherless child. He loved them so much, and Milah was nos able to be good with him. She didn’t want to understand what he was aiming doing that. By telling him that he was a coward, she just make his think the same, and he that’s exactly why he wanted to become someone more powerful. She could have accepted him like he was, moved somewhere else and just get rid of all these unfortunate memories. They could’ve been happy all three of them… But she decided to chose vanity and anger. Too bad.

No real reason to believe he isn't. The previous dark one wanted to be attacked and killed so that the curse would be passed. Rumple origionally only wanted the dagger to control the dark one and protect Bae, not become the dark one himself

All the commenters going "Wow, Milah's such a bitch!" really aren't thinking about the context of this. Milah genuinely DID love Rumple when she married him, he told her that he was not a coward like his father before him, and she was supportive of his attempts to better himself even though she didn't always agree with his actions. Now, think of how this situation would look like from her perspective. Her husband, the man she loved, the man who swore to her that he would not ever continue his father's legacy of cowardice...did something cowardly on the battlefield to get out of fighting. Not only would Milah now have to live with society shaming her for being married to a coward, but suddenly it seems to her like she married a man she didn't really know at all - like Rumple lied to her about not being like his father, when in truth he was exactly like him. That's why she'd later say "I never loved YOU." She felt like she only fell in love with an image of Rumple that wasn't true to who he really was. We see all this from Rumple's perspective, so we know his motives for his actions. But thinking about how it would look to Milah suddenly makes her behavior make a bit more sense, and it explains the bouts of clinical depression that she had afterwards when she was always going out to taverns and stuff. Though even then, she still TRIED to save the marriage by asking Rumple to start over with her, but Rumple's pride wouldn't let him listen to her. Milah and Rumple were BOTH flawed people and ultimately terrible parents.

We never saw him do much killing or any raping, and she went with him because he treated her well. I can see why Mila and Rumple didn't work out. He did things that put her in a position where she had no say over her life, like when he sold his second born child without her permission or consent or even knowledge. Technically they should have been able to call upon the Blue Fairy or baelfire's fairy godmother but still. She has a pirate's heart and he has a coward's heart. They could have just taken it without trying to kill but meh.... Mila has a pirate's heart and is very brave. Mila wanted adventure fun and risks and Rumple was very cowardly so wouldn't do any of that. Mila wanted to say in her life and a happy one but Rumple made her life narrow and baelfire bound her to a life of misery. Her frustration and life probably made her act out on Rumple who she blames for all of it. And it technically it's his fault. He could have chose to fight with honor but he didn't.
