Rebel Yell (Cover) - Billy Idol - RUMPUS - Family Band / Kids Band / Rock Band

RUMPUS is a kids family rock band playing live classic rock music and original songs! Happy Easter everyone! Here's Rebel Yell by Billy Idol from 1983. What a rocking tune and who doesn't like the tempo and solid beat in this epic classic. Steve Stevens does a great job on the lead guitar for Billy Idol and Matt Hyde does a stellar job bringing the solo to life for Rumpus! Rock on!
We are brothers and sisters from Auckland in New Zealand. We like to learn and perform new songs together and play modern music and classic rock songs. We also write our own original songs too. We like to play live if we can - but also enjoying sharing our music online.
We practice up in our rumpus room so we called our band ‘RUMPUS’ which we think is quite fitting!
We like to learn the new songs and polish them up as much as we can before we decide they’re ready to video and share. It’s gives us something to aim for and it’s also good to have for the future.
Ashley on drums and Hannah on the bass are twins and 12 years old. Matthew on guitar is 13 and Daniel on guitar and lead vocals is 15. Thanks for watching!

This comment comes from a fan, I'm sorry but for me the audio quality of these recordings does not do justice to the work and talent of these young musicians, sounds like input recording levels are too high, causing distortion. Maybe find assistance on the equipment and techniques for recording live performances? Hopefully, this is seen as positive, constructive criticism.👍

Hello, thanks.. yes we are doing it with limited resources really and only simple gear, methods and knowledge. We are learning as we go and happy to have limited live mistakes... We record to a basic zoom recorder direct and have put all instruments and vocals thru a behringer mixer to the zoom. Before recording I listen thru headphones in a room next door to the mix to try and get levels right and then we record a bit and all listen.. once happy we video and record. But it’s not multi track and we don’t have control over individual instrument levels after recording.. just EQ to tweak. But we are getting better.. you should go and check out earlier videos of ours and you can hear the progress. But I do kind of know what you mean, although for me it’s hard to hear how to make it better.. more clarity would be nice.. I don’t know if it’s all too loud, or if just a cheap mixer and not commercial quality. Some other songs that aren’t so Ricky seem pretty clear to me.. (hey you etc) but heavier songs with lots of guitar distortion seem full of distortion 😆 maybe it’s a room reverb thing with noise coming back through the four vocal mics? Someone here in nz contacted and helped me a lot to get better recordings than we used to get.. so it got better thanks to him.. maybe it can get better again through technique or gear improvements.. or tips and advice from people.. you sound like you know something about music recordings etc.. can you advise me of good KZbin video or online resources? Happy to try and get things better! It’s fun developing the recording quality and growth of the band.. thanks 😊

@@rumpusmachinenz Hi, I listen to many performers here on YT with headphones and it's easy to hear the difference, I don't have modern live video recording knowledge, but my ears tell me that there is distortion most probably caused by input recording levels that are too high. Maybe it's the output of the mixer? Or the input of the recorder? Or both? But I would definitely lower them by at least 25%. There is not enough "headroom" for the louder parts of the song. At this point I don't think it's the equipment as much as the levels being too high, I would start by getting clean sounding recordings before thinking of upgrading the equipment. Hopefully someone with knowledge reading this will chime in, there are good bands in your part of the world that have great sounding videos. The French Family band now in Nashville do shows in their living room with great sound. Singit Live is another channel that has really good sound, and by coincidence they covered this exact song yesterday. Maybe if you reach out he can give you a few tips.. I have been following for over a year here and on FB, and yes I can see the progress.👍

@@GOOD-LISTENER hi there, as it happens they guy in nz that I mentioned who offered me advice commented on this song on Facebook so I mentioned your comment to him and asked what he thought.. we ended up talking on the phone.. and concluded yes there’s some overload and possibly a combination of input levels slightly too high, then also two distorted guitars with possibly too much fuzz in the gain.. also not enough left right stereo separation of distorted guitars adding to muddy mix. He said a lot of a proper mixes will use full left and right pans of guitars which helps things. Also individual drums spread across the left to right of the stereo and other instruments not just centred. Quite interesting really. I have been panning guitars and bvs either side of centre but maybe not enough. Multi track could let me adjust this after recording but also create more work 😆 but it’s definitely something to consider even with our current set up. And maybe not enough pulling back from mics on more screamy parts.. so yes some ideas there to take forwards.. cheers
