Hi Ben, We stayed at Run Cottage in 2018, which seems ages ago now, and a whole lot has happened meantime! We walk a lot, we tend to pitch up in our camper and follow whatever O.S. footpaths we can from the site. Map in hand we set off for the coast the same as you, but turned left (north I suppose) and followed the sea bank in a sort of zig-zag direction toward Orford. Only to be confronted about 3 miles in by the River Ore estuary in full flow. So did we turn back or carry on in the hope of a bridge? We carried on a bit further and happened upon a 'ferry' of all things! It was a really nice guy with a rowing boat! We crossed his palm with coins alighted the ferry, crossed the river and carried on with the f.p. to Orford approx 3 miles further on. We just had time in Orford for a quick look round a coffee and snack late lunch and had to high tail I back to the ferry as he was calling it day at 4:00! Our return was a repeat of the outward journey, viewing the few estuary birds and a couple of buzzards. I'm not sure what we would have done if we hadn't happened upon the ferry, to continue out to a road and summon a taxi would have added a good few miles and hours. But there we are the walk had a happy ending and we estimated another 9 miles under our belts. The site was really good, the owners were very friendly and helpful, suggesting places for us to visit such as Woodbridge and Sutton Hoo. We were pitched on the far side of the pond to you on a bend in the stream. I think the Cormorant that visited the pond every breakfast time may have cleared the pond back then. Went there years ago. We were put right by the pond. It was extremely wet time of the year. We said to the owner can't we go up the top near entrance as the ground is a lot dryer up here Loads of pitches empty by the way She replied no that's for motorhomes only So stayed by the pond, cut a long story short. Had real trouble getting off our pitch towing a caravan. Ground was like a Bog. Absolutely destroyed the grass as we struggled to get out. We left two really deep tram lines in the grass /Mud as we left. 😂😂😂😂. Never been back.
