Hey so there is another way called “tf2 server manager” it’s actually really good for making a server only just 2 buttons I really recommend it for making servers in tf2 and also the creator “crazy...” is making an update for it

TF2 Server Manager is great for hosting a server to screw around on with friends for a couple hours, but I wouldn't recommend it in the long-term. Watch the opening of the video and you'll see why.

I'd advice everyone to please, please, set up ssh keys for authentication and disable password logins entirely, this is more secure. On your Linux/WIndows10/Mac PC run: ssh-keygen # And confirm/press enter for every prompt ssh-copy-id user@serverip # To copy the generated key to the server add add it to the allowed keys Now test login in: ssh user@serverip If that didn't prompt you for a password or it prompted for the password for the key, then it worked! Now you can disable password authentication for SSH by editing /etc/ssh/sshd_config sudo -e /etc/ssh/sshd_config Find the line that says "PasswordAuthentication" and change "yes" to "no" make sure that line isn't commented out (if it starts with a # remove that from that line) Now your sever is much more secure!

Do not and i mean do not allow port 22 on your firewall. This allows users to remote connect to your server and gain access to the network. If you must allow port 22 on firewall then atleast use SSH-keys so they cannot be cracked!

If you want to run a tf2 server at home here's some tips: 1, Protect your IP and server from security risks: people can find you via IP cloudflare and services similar can protect you from that and provide more security. 2, seperate computer: this should be obvious a Windows or Linux computer that has a decent amount of ram and a lot of power packed per core for a cpu (gpu not required because the server doesn't use a graphical interface mostly). If you want to be really serious you can set up a server rack that allows for independant operation. 3. Plugins. This can easily allow you to make your server more fun for the players

Command Prompts give me a headache. I have to use them all the time for game dev and changing and managing file locations and using a repository and everything. My school hosts all these things themselves so its not like theres a desktop app for the various services so command prompt is the only way to do it. In other words... very impressive 🤣

Linux is amazing. You may think "yeah, Linux uses less ram. So what?" but it matters so much. Imagine trying to run windows on a computer with 1 gig of ram. Its just not possible. Linux is not only great in performance, but also stability. It can update at any time without you having to shut off your PC (this is true on most distros), and it rarely crashes.

The loading bar in tf2 stays at the 2nd bar "connecting to the server" and then It says "failed after 4 retries". here's what the terminal shows at the end: _Connection to game coordinator established._ _'server.cfg' not present; not executing._ _'ctf_2fort.cfg' not present; not executing._ _Server is hibernating_ _Connection to Steam servers successful._ _ Public IP to Steam is _ _Assigned anonymous gameserver Steam ID ._ _VAC secure mode is activated._ _Received 5936XXX bytes item schema version 1F4BXXXX direct data; update is queued._ I think its also good to mention that in the " *sudo apt-get install lib32z1 libncurses5:i386 libbz2-1.0:i386 lib32gcc1 lib32stdc++6 libtinfo5:i386 libcurl3-gnutls:i386 -y* " part, I get an error saying " _E: Package 'lib32gcc1' has no installation candidate_ " Because of that I just removed the " lib32gcc-s1" from the command and ran it again, and it worked. I tried two times, last time I tried I literally copied and pasted every part of the tutorial you wrote. What I'm doing wrong?
