Reminds me of the ol' straight drive Franklin skidders. Nobody ever took time to line the brakes on them. You had to have a set of balls to run one in these mountains around here!

Glad you guys are ok !! That could have been bad!! But you guys in that part of the south are in easy ground compared to what I grew up in we never had a grapple skidder they won't climb a rock cliff a deer can't get up so up here a tracked skidder works to pull em from a bluff mtn side. Then we take a cable skidder them onto the yard

cotontop3, I don't comment much, I want to start by saying that I'm glad to hear the outcome was good because that coulda went BAD many different ways. if that woulda articulated on him, like you said, no good. video does nothing to show the terrain we woked on. worked this same loggin for 4 yrs, S Ohio, KY and WV. seen many a rolled machine and had my share of O CRAP moments myself, a couple in a 635 in fact. I mostly ran a hydro-ax and skidder on those hills but also excavator for clean up. I can appreciate what you do my man, enjoy the videos from my easy chair and they still get the ticker pumpin!!

Glad no one was hurt. I had dozer start rolling backwards off gooseneck as I dropped second ramp onto dovetail. All I could do was move and hope it didn't turnover. It rolled over ramps and off back of gooseneck hit ground but didn't roll over backwards.

We have a E625C which I was told is essentially a 635D. Same pumps and motors just no turnaround and no reverse fan. It used to have a hydraulic release spring applied multi-disc parkbrake on the tailshaft just behind the pivot. But Tigercat replaced that with a manual lever to calliper on centre disc. They said the original one we had were blowing apart. Getting to the point I got curious one day and turned her at the bottom of a little hill with a hill opposite so no harm could happen just to see what it would do. It stayed put with parkbrake off. Might have to try a bigger hill and for longer to see after seeing this. Another thing is they need a brake down the backend. Do a tailshaft on a big Hill and those front wheels won't pull her up. Had a worker back down to me one day when hand falling, he stopped and I walked behind to get the rope and pull it down over a side to get a log out. Well he put the blade down and it went on a greasy stick and one side boggie just happen to be on another greasy stick and as he lifted the front wheels off the ground the boggies counter rotated and she was off after me. (makes you move quick) when the boggie got off the stick (sapling) she stopped. Operator said he was pushing the brake harder and harder and she wouldn't stop. Oh and don't the brakes (or front brake) have an accumulator that are good for a few applications? Ours does.

man scary scary I have had that to happen just think being on a old Skidder I have a old Timberjack 225 and it jump out of gear going backwards and it pick up some speed but I have a open door on my skidder but the different is win you a good operator and he is think and he using his head stay in the Skidder and ride it out but I know win its a drop off or a bluff everything is running in your head but the best thing is stay in it you have a good operator thums up be safe
@cotontop39 жыл бұрын
You're right.

Hey I think Deere is the same way they will roll unless you shut the key off or pump the brakes a time or two... The accumulator stores two brake pumps worth of pressure..
@LoggerWade9 жыл бұрын
Did he shut the key off or just grab on for dear life
@cotontop39 жыл бұрын
+Logger Wade when I got in the machine, his cell phone was laying on top of where the key and switches are located. I figured the key got hit by the phone or hand when the phone was placed there but even with that happening the machine should have never moved an inch when the motor stopped. I'm gonna do a video to show what Tigercat did to the brake.
@LoggerWade9 жыл бұрын
Hey be nice to see glad it all worked out though that coulda been bad
@TheTrapper708 жыл бұрын
+cotontop3 Was the nitrogen filled ball for the brakes the culprit.
@cotontop38 жыл бұрын
+TheTrapper70 No it wasn't the nitrogen that was the problem. I need to take a cover off the machine and and do a video and show what happened that made the brake system fail. The pins that hold the caliper on has some 2 cent cotter pins that keep them from sliding out. One of the cotter pins came out and allowed the caliper to move enough to where the brake pads would not lock down on the disk. We didn't even know that was a possibility that could happen but rest assured we check it multiple times a week now. Its kind of a poor design the way the caliper and pins are set up on that machine.

Mississippi has some of the worst drop off I have ever seen except in the mountains. I was working installing growth and yield plots between Kosciusko and US 82 back in 1994. The guy I was working with was installing plot corners on 1/4 acre plots. He was measuring the distance for the last corner when he called back that this spot was not going to work. He yelled that there was no where to put the corner. I walked to him to see what the issue was. The spot where the post should have been was down about 40 feet. Just a straight drop off with no warning. Fairly flat and then nothing. The whole site was like that. Unit forester said it was due to severe erosion back when they used to farm cotton there. The area around Natchez was like that too but at least it was hilly.
@cotontop39 жыл бұрын
Terry, you're right, the ground is crazy in spots with drop offs scattered around.

I'm so glad no one got hurt in this scary incident. You will all need some convincing from Tigercat that they find out exactly what did not work, why it stalled and get it sorted properly and correctly. How does the operator feel about getting back on this machine? It obviously started again in order to drive out the hole!

A lot of stuff is "supposed" to do this or that when something quits. Don't always happen and there's not always a "soft place" to land either. I've taken a ride or two like that and you're right, there's no fun in it. Glad everything turned out all right. We had a Moxie ar-tic truck's brakes fail and if the driver hadn't been a small guy, he wouldn't be here now. The cab was down on the steering wheel. He just got skinned and scraped. You tell me there's not a Higher Power and you have just proclaimed yourself to be a chrome-plated, 1st class idiot.

I didn't have that exact instance happen but trucking down to wells nevada from Idaho at the state line road was good some snow ahead but didn't see any reports of ice on the road so I took her slow about 50ish on the safe side hit the state line where the road bends to the right and goes to a downhill slope it was all ice on a two lane road luckily I made it down but I was just as out of control loaded with tater chips my load maybe grossed 5,000 lbs in the box so basically I was empty weight and could only put roughly 5 grams of pressure on the brakes cuz anymore they'd lock up and that'd be a rap for me... big equipment no matter the breed and even in favorable conditions are dangerous you gotta be prepared for those times and learn from the past
