Thank you, for helping me achieve my goal for the Half Marathon using the Sub 01:45 Program. I ended up smashing my goal running a 01:37:27 at the Garmin Kansas City Half Marathon. I was nervous going into the race because it was my first half marathon on an extremely hilly course, and I did ZERO hill training. Despite this I was still confident I could shoot for a 01:40 (07:38 mile average) based on the splits I was hitting in my tempo long runs. For the first 7 miles I was right on target averaging 07:36 per mile. Then when I hit mile 8 I knew I had it and decided to screw the pace and just go for it. You always talk about running by feel and now I get it. I ended up running the last 6 miles at a 7:09 pace with the last two at 06:58 and 06:37 for a massive negative split. My last 6 miles were: 07:13 07:14 07:19 07:25 06:58 06:38 It was crazy how my mind automatically went back to my training in that moment especially the last two miles. I just told myself "Last rep of 3x2 mile repeats" then when I hit the final 800 "Last rep of 10x800". Never once did I fade or start to struggle, the only thing on my mind was making sure I emptied the tank. The race was easier than the training and all I needed to do was execute. Thank you again for all your videos and responding to every single one of my questions. I know I had a lot of annoying ones being a beginner and no clue what I was getting into. We don't deserve you. My next mission is to tackle the marathon and will definitely buy one of your programs again.

Lydiard insisted Snell do 1000miles in the 10wks Marathon Conditioning phase (10hrs running) + up to 40miles of morn jogging / Zone1 with the famous 22mile hilly Sunday Longrun & he even glycogen depleted himself 2wks out by running the local Marathon (was reduced to walking around 20mile mark)... was on 2:20 Marathon pace with the leaders until 20miles. Then 2wks later broke the World record in 800m from memory. 😊

Another great video. Off topic you have mentioned before if you can run a time for a half marathon you are capable of running that for a full. I'm a 47 year old athlete and have improved my half marathon time in 3 years from 1:48 to 1:38. Realistically when could expect to be able improve enough to hold that 7:29 pace for a full marathon.

Its hard to answer exactly when but I bet with the proper work you can do it between a year or 2, max. Increase your volume and continue to drill down on paces FAR below goal marathon pace in training. 6 month block for sure will get you ready and primed. Awesome job dropping down to 1:38 from 1:48. 💪💪💯

@@rundreamachieve i appreciate you taking the time to answer. I'm looking for the ever popular BQ and the plan was to do it as a 50 year old . I ran 1 marathon last year 3:57:48 and it lit a fire under my ass that I've got way better than that in me. I topped out that block with a 20 mile long run but only 45 mile peak week. This half marathon block i peaked out at 60 mile week with a 18 mile long run at a 8:20 pace and i could have kept going .the difference in my performance was night and day. I know I need more marathon experience I'm going to address that in the coming year . Thanks again Coach Nate

My first question would be, what type of 800m runner are you? I wouldn’t recommend a very LR to someone that’s 400/800m runner. Tempo work would also be different for that type of runner. Just a different opinion.

Spot on Sebastian, very true man. Every athlete is different and works best with certain intensities/workouts for sure.

@@rundreamachieve former high schooler Cade Flatt popped in my head and current Olympian Keely Hodgekinson popped in my head of 800m runners that train really low mileage, and heavier anaerobic work.
