I really enjoy this video series, watched it a few times now haha. I have been wanting this game for a long while and have not been lucky enough to find copies under that $100 or more mark. Here is hoping that FFG does a reprint or 3rd edition at some point!

No, they do require the base game, however, they each come with their own boards that overlay onto the base games' board's terrain area. You still use the market areas and event deck areas of the main board. Also, you use much of the base game cards, chits, dice, etc.

This will be a different step for me as I usually play middle weight games. But I couldn't pass up buying this game for $5 at the goodwill store. And it has expansion packs. I hope I like it, and if not I can easily sell it for a nice profit. Thanks for the run through.

Yeah, you'll love Mage Knight. Lots of people on BGG have said that they sold Runebound after buying MK.

hard to find in the states, seems like Legends of Andor would probably be the one to pick up of the two games?

There's no connection between them. All of the big expansions come with their own adventure. It's different part of Terrinoth... but I'm sure you can houserule some travelling between maps:)

I really want to try this game, but it almost seems too much like Mage Knight (With Mage Knight being better). All of the criticisms you addressed at the end of the video are things that Mage Knight does very well with in comparison (i.e. the doom track, making sure you push yourself beyond weaker monsters). I don't think there's any right or wrong way to play a game so long as it's what feels natural to you and is what you feel is the best way of doing so.

This is our favorite Adventure game. We do not want to 'race' through the game, and I enjoy observing what will happen when my husband takes his turn, generaly, we are itnerested in the whole game, not just 'my turn'. We love the way we can level up the individual statistics. We love the travel dice, and we too also love the allies that can be aquired in the market. We love the style of combat. We have found no fault in this game...at all. Is it really a race? Maybe. For me its pure adventure.

Well, I think It's a race with a good amount of shopping thrown in. It says a lot to me that if you have all the deck expansions the Market deck is twice the size of any of the adventure decks! Runebound is still one of my favorite games though, and while I agree with Radho that It's a race, It's because I've watched several opponents speed borishly across the finish line just as I was about to buy a simply lovely +2 thingy of annihilation..... 🤗

This is completely different game experience. Runebound is like Talisman on steroids. In MK you have it all, deck building, dices, board with tiles. RB is easier to get hang of it.

How do you use and "travel" between the maingame and big expansions? Do the boards go to a certain pattern or certain cities let you travel to them?

Don't worry...the MSRP is only $50, it's currently out of print, but when it comes back expect it to ~$40. :)

I have been trying to buy this game for several years now, but I had not found one below £250 until recently, (in fact most of the time the base 2nd addition was above £350) and I am not paying that for a game, ever. I did only last week after waiting for maybe 5 years find one available for £55 with free shipping so happy days. But this is not an easy game to get if you don't have the patience to watch the market for years.

mejeg i reckon sooner or later Fantasy Flight will re-release it with a fancy 3rd edition that improves on everything and makes my copy obsolete. :)

thought it was neat, but hated the fact that players have to directly fight each other now. for most things, i prefer 2nd edition to 3rd

Looks like a really fun game...How do the expansions work? Do the boards combine together or do you use the new board? I looked around and this game is actually not that easy to find in decent condition. It's really expensive as well! Anyway...I enjoyed the vids. L8R

XHuntinatorX the big expansions have completely seperate boards that let you explore new lands. the small deck of cards expansions give you new quests to go on with the original board :)

Nope... Maybe you can use only the heroes and only the market deck from the expansion but it would be thin. And you don't get all the counters.

never tried, but i suspect it would be fine if you're using the doom timer :)
