I do like the weapon diversity Not just for dead weaponry, but also for just making the midgame feel a bit more rewarding. You pick one weapon type to progress one step ahead, then build out your arsenal. It also rewards knowledge too.

​@@evilbail2184 I do feel like this should only apply for the late game content we currently have (perhaps some of the late slayer bosses aswell) and content going forwards. I am afraid it will make mid game feel way more grindy than it should be.

My biggest fear for the changes are that the full ramifications won't be felt for a long time. At first, it will be like they said, just adjusting things to feel better when picking the right choice, but the next set of power creep will be balanced around this idea. This means that future content might feature 8 way swaps WITH 4 extra weapons (to cover all melee and ranged styles) AND loads of combo runes to account for all the spells. Inventory management, on a main, for normal content will become a nightmare. I play a UIM, so it's a bit self inflicted, but adding this level of complexity as a requirement will really, dramatically, effect my gamemode. Say what you will about "doing it to myself", but I enjoy how I'm playing now and I don't want a required 5 extra inventory slots to account for new weaknesses to kill what I enjoy now. That said, I am excited for the change, I just hope it's handled with enough care not to destroy the game that already exists. 100%, do not poll 90% of the changes they want to make. Nothing will ensure that these changes are either half-baked or overbalanced than relying on the poll system...

Right there with you. Love the idea, especially if I get more use out of my dust and steam runes besides teleports. but I feel the Ironman modes are going to take a massive hit with this. Already semi happened with the fang and the bos, already sending everyone back to the gauntlet and having to grind out the shards again 😅

Elemental weaknesses sound amazing. Magic has always been my favorite combat style, but I’ve also hated the way that only a handful of spells are actually used, and the fact that earlier spell unlocks are basically just stepping-stones to the “real” ones, aka Fire spells. It would also be great to see the Smoke and Shadow spells finally receive some play. I genuinely have never seen a single other player use any of those spells, and I only tried them out for the first back in 2021 in some Pest Control games, just to see what they were like.

I can't even justify using blood without bloodbark which I cannot justify without wearing the hat which I can't because I can only justify using blood burst for slayer due to its absurdly high cost and inferiority to ice burst. Prayer potions are cheaper.

The elder maul has a crush accuracy of +135, not 225. According to the wiki, the highest crush bonus someone can get is still +214. I still agree with your point. Even if the crush bonus was +225, it would still be mathematically possible to hit a 0 on a level 2 goblin in Lumbridge, even tho the goblin has level 1 defense, and -15 to crush defense(armor). In fact there are 2 ways you could hit a 0 on a goblin. The 1st is that you fail the accuracy roll, even tho it would be over 99%. The 2nd is that after you pass the accuracy roll, it can still roll a 0 for damage.

@@PhrozenFox Btw the fang will almost never hit a zero on a goblin. Also the least likely thing that the fang hits on any monster is a zero, since it requires both attack rolls to be a zero, it's much like advantage in D&D, the most likely outcome statistically of an advantage roll is a nat 20, and the least likely roll is a 1.

@@tabbenatort6179 Ah, let me see where I had read about this. Here it is, Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Magical Elementaris Vol. 1. "Fire creatures are made out fire and hence you can still damage them with fireball attacks. Even though they are fire resistant, the impact caused by the kinetic energy of a fireball can produce some physical damage on them. Also, a fireball with high amount of fire energy (high temperature) can cause damage on fire creatures despite their resistance, since the temperature variation between the fireball and the fire creature would lead to a flow of energy that can cause damage."

Making Magic elements actually work like magical elements and rebalance to make using the proper weapon is a long time coming. I feel like a fool using fire spells on fire creatures in a fire area just because it’s the highest lvl spell

I like the idea of them doing horizontal progression just because it mixes things up. Gets tiring just seeing the same loadouts, weapons, styles, etc

Same. I’m also tired of only seeing graceful sets everywhere. In protest of it, I purposely didn’t get it on my new account and I just use stamina pots as I run around, allowing me to wear the combat gear I’m using, etc. It would be great if they could throw in an agility rework. Nothing too time consuming, but at least buff agility, where a higher agility level leads to reduced energy drain and a slightly faster recharge rate. That or bring back the fire pits scattered across Gielinor, where everyone would sit down and chat for a moment before returning to their journey.

I don't think they mentioned immunity much at all, more just that if you wanna use your old weapons that should still be fine. However if you wish to be more efficient, using different weapons will be faster, more varied rather than more restricted

While I don't care for the rotation system in rs3, the weakness system felt pretty engaging imo! I enjoyed using different weapons and spell against enemies a whole lot more then just grabbing my scim/whip/fire spell and just killing it.

The concept of adding more combat styles to ranged and mags is amazing! It’ll make using them feel more interesting because, now, you get to CHOOSE something aside from the NPC to kill! You can potentially mix it up similarly to melee! EDIT: Granted, I’m not too sure how much of a change, and what they’d even DO, having multiple attack styles would be for mage/ranged

*Weird rant time* If I could add anything to the game without it changing the combat meta to a huge degree, it would be: A. Improve the Unarmed combat style (specifically). It's so underutilized, its disgusting. It would make sense for gloves that improve your combat prowess to do so WITHOUT needing a whole weapon. It would give niche mechanics like Chaos Ele's unequipping abilities a bit more depth to work with(?). It could be pretty cool, thematically, if Pures (who not only rely on strong stats/gear to accomplish goals) if there were actual TECH builds to play with. Take Barbarian training for example. Very accessible, very powerful to trade HP xp for Combat. But what if Barbarian training also involved 'learning' how to damage an enemies stamina while barehanded? It doesn't have to be OP, but it doesn't make sense for certain mechanics to straight up NOT be used. There is so much gear, spells and quests that just DON'T get used. 95% of EVERY spellbook, outside of Tele's or very niche situations, simply do not get used at all. That's not good design, and very unimaginative for a game with so, so much to offer. I feel like a huge part of why people enjoy current OSRS combat is because its so nuanced (given whats provided), but at the end of the day its JUST a numbers game. Some very basic rolls vs stats/gear. Whose is bigger at the time, who can catch the enemy off prayer, etc. Its bogus. Aren't there spells that reduce stats to a degree? Why do those immediately get ignored in favor of a utility spell like High Alchemy or Veng? It makes no sense, unless the Devs are assuming the best (or even worse) players in the game can't manage concepts beyond 'Max Hit' or 'OP Special Attack'. 2. Dyes. WHY ARE THEY MAINLY USED FOR QUESTS? You telling me I can't just dye anything? I gotta do hundreds of hours raiding or doing Clues for color palettes I don't even want? Come on, bruh. That's just silly. It's an MMORPG. Presets for COSMETIC items are just goofy. Period. 🙄😒

I'm fine with adjusting some weapon stats to bring more diversity but adding elemental weaknesses/range attack styles seems like a bridge too far for me.

Changing weaknesses is needed to add more diversity tho. You pretty much only ever use 3 combat spells, standard fire, ice, and blood. They all do the same damage individually regardless of what you're fighting. The only difference is cost vs dps. Adding elemental weaknesses allows you to think of spells as attack styles, like melee. Also opens up the potential for new interesting magic weapons that interact with those weaknesses. Range is just pick the highest range acc/str bonus weapon and ammo. Usually tbow, bowfa, or BP at endgame. Midgame is pretty much rune/dragon cbow until you get BP. Why use anything else? Adding new range weaknesses opens up the possibility of throwing weapons being viable like knives or javelin or even completely new types of weapons.

I love all these concepts. Im anticipating a lot of "EOC v2" memes but this, in my opinion, is a very needed change. Combat just felt so 1-dimensional: you get a good weapon and just use it everywhere, a la bowfa, whip, etc.

Have you ever considered that one dimensional combat is an important part of the game? These are the same arguments that were used for EOC. Osrs has been popular for so long because of what it is, not in spite of it.

@@exnecross3141 that is a good point, but the way i see it, these won’t change combat, they just add to it. Bosses already have weaknesses to slash/stab/crush, etc. and this is just a different version of that. If you could just choose to train a certain style of combat, what’s the point of having different melee styles? Or accurate vs rapid ranged style?

@oshaghenesy I think the bigger issue is that now we will have a bloated bank with a ton of different weapons and loadouts for any different scenario. That doesn't feel like runescape. It feels like another game, and personally I play runescape because I like runescape. In peak RS2 you'd just grab a whip and go. There was nothing wrong with that.

Considering what we've learned by updates that are scary like the Evolution of Combat, or anything in between completely reworking combat, they should probably retain the ability to revert the game any time an update is threatening to change combat.

Honestly i'm really exited for rebalances as long as it keeps the general feel the same. For example, i was reading the wiki the other day and realized they buffed dragon mace while i wasn't paying attention so it hits as fast as a scim. Boom. Instantly viable, with higher strength bonus but less accuracy. Very exiting for my new PK alt i'm making. I'm really looking forward to see what they can make with this new update.

Here are my thoughts about some of the changes mentioned in your video. 0:15 Torag's hammers are still going to suck, unless they get a stat buff. Sure they will feel better, but they will have 85(crush) accuracy, and 72 strength bonuses, and they are a 5 tick weapon. To compare, the abyssal whip is a 4 tick weapon, and since it is one handed, it will probably be used with a dragon defender. This means that the whip has 106(slash) accuracy, and 88 strength bonuses. Another comparison, is with the abyssal bludgeon. It is a 4 tick weapon, and has 102(crush) accuracy, and 85 strength bonuses. The Torag's hammers are worse than using a sarachnis cudgel. Of course this is ignoring the price, or how easy it is for ironmen to get these items. 1:11 This is an important point. There are loads of "dead" weapons and "dead" items in OSRS. Why should anyone use a metal melee weapon, that isn't a scimitar? There are a few exceptions, like f2p pkers using rune warhammers, or 2h swords, but most weapons in OSRS are "noob traps". The most common reasons why people say that Jagex shouldn't balance these weapons are nostalgia, and limited dev time. I think weapons can be much better balanced then they are right now, and still have the old school feel. As for the point about limited dev time, stat changes are some of the easiest things to implement, and they have the added benefit of not breaking spaghetti code. 1:50-3:00 This is another really easy change. All Jagex has to do is change the NPC defensive bonuses. The hard part is knowing what the new defensive bonuses should be. NPC defensive bonuses work mostly the same way as the player's defensive bonuses that come from armor. The "EOCing" of magic and range is interesting. It opens up a can of worms arguing about EoC, but looking at it from a game balance perspective, I just hope that they get the numbers right. It should reward the player for using the correct range attack or spell, but it should, penalize them too much for using the same style as before the change. For example, if an enemy that used to be weak to ranged, before the update becomes weak to heavy ranged attacks, it shouldn't make the bowfa useless against it for being a medium ranged weapon. Personally, I am hoping for some F2P updates.

Not sure if this was intended or not on your part Abyssal Bludgeon != Sarachnis Cudgel. Torag's Hammers has +2 str bonus and +15 crush bonus over Cudgel but -1 attack speed. All in all, Cudgel is probably a minor upgrade over Torags. Which TBH, progression wise, makes sense. Torag's Hammers is easier to get. Cudgel is an actual boss drop and has a rare drop rate. And no, I don't think the stat requirements are an accurate respresentation of the progression path. Progression path based on stat requirements starts getting muddy after level 60. Which moving on to the next point, I don't think it's fair to compare Abyssal Bludgeon and Torag's Hammers or any of the barrows weapons for that matter. IMO, Abyssal Bludgeon and Abyssal Whip are an entire tier above Barrows Equipment and their stats even reflect that. Abyssal Bludgeon having +13 str bonus and +17 crush bonus on top of +1 attack speed (as in better attack speed). In addition, the abyssal weapons don't degrade like barrows equipment. All of this makes sense. Barrows is a low-mid tier PVM activity, not really a boss in all honesty. Abyssal Sire is a literal boss and I don't see how anyone can argue other wise, and it requires 85 slayer to kill. On top of that, making the Abyssal Bludgeon actually takes considerable time along side being in a more difficult fight than Barrows. Personally, I don't think it's fair to call the range/magic side the "EoCing" of the game. To me, EoC was the complete redesign of the combat system to be focused on around modern MMORPG systems. Abilities, hotbar, scaling up health, and so on. Adding more nuance to OSRS' combat system by adding more kinds of ranged attack styles and mechanical elemental differences to magic, and weakness/resistance systems, on top of rebalacing items for these additions and ideally for a better game. Yes, it's a major update, but no I don't think this inherently moves away from the OSRS style or theme.

@@randomrandom9570 You have a point. I was comparing the Torag's hammers to weapons with similar stat requirements. At the end of the section, I put in a sentence that said: "Of course this is ignoring the price, or how easy it is for ironmen to get these items." I also gave the cudgel an advantage by assuming that if someone had the cudgel, they would also have a dragon defender, and I stated the stats for the cudgel accordingly. I do not personally believe the changes to range and magic defensive bonuses are EoC.

Personally I can't wait for these updates and changes to go live. EOC was 10 years ago and the team at jagex has learned alot. I trust that they will deliver with these next updates. Coming from an ironman, it will be nice to actually use some of the weapons that have been collecting dust

I like all the combat style changes but I just really hate nerfs. They feel real lazy buffing the underperforming items is better.

The change I wish to see for range & mage is when toggling defensive casting I want more exp towards defense and less towards the style of combat Im using. Like 70/30 instead of 50/50

This is a good change and very intuitive to newer players or even the 'RPG' element of OSRS being an MMORPG. As the player, if an NPC is 'rocky' in appearance, the player can infer that it'd naturally be weak to crush so it makes sense for maces or hammers to do 'more damage' than a whip or a sword.

magic changes will have some big implications for ironmen. Its usually fire strike -> ibans -> trident. But ibans and tridents are built-in spells, how does this new system handle those? They're nerfing tome of fire and water, are items with built in spells getting nerfed to make them less dominate too?

I think they should keep the magic weakness the same but you get a slight damage boost using the correct spell, like water strike on fire giants. Meaning you could still use fire strike against them without splashing, but water strike would be the optimal option. So then if you use trident or Ibans, it’s not going to negatively affect them

Yeah that's how I feel about it also. The old way will likely still work just fine, but if you really wanna pump out that extra DMG to speed up what your doing, you can go and use more varied equipment

ibans is likely fire base, it uses fire runes. Trident uses fire but is well, 1-a trident, 2-dropped by a kraken, 3-lookd more like a water attack. Also, trident will likely still dominate most of the time due to saving inventory slots.

The EoC risk is huge on this update, not the same to rebalance one thing at a time than pretendi g to rebalance every mob and weapon at once: THEY WILL FUCK IT UP. Has my no, unless they change stuff slow and slightly.

EoC was a completely redesign of the combat system. Everything mentioned in the video are additions and rebalances to make it more nuanced.

I really like the idea of making PVM weaknesses more pronounced. It might be *too* much, but Melvor does it where attacking with the right style gives just a damage boost, and while I don't think OSRS will do that, it doesn't seem like the worst or least likely adjustment to make

Id like to see certain monsters having certain thresholds like you need a strong enough or heavy enough weapon to even crack through their armor, requiring armor piercing things like 2h weapons or ballista/crossbow. Weight could play a factor and I think it shouldn't be linear always, like the more defense the less you can hit, but I think certain thresholds could be met to significantly increase your ability to hit right at that level depending on the type

I quit osrs a few years ago because I was bored but honestly changes like this and some of the recent updates are kinda calling me back. I love the concept of weaknesses actually meaning more and pushing you to mix up your weapons and spells.

Jagex should buff all the unpopular Dragon weapons such as the Dragon battleaxe, Dragon Mace, Dragon Longsword; also buff the Dragon armour, like for example give it some type of +X for "Other bonuses" when wearing the full dragon armour set, OR just by wearing any of the Dragon med helm or Dragon full helm with any Dragon chainbody/platebody, along with Dragon plateleg/skirt, and Dragon square shield/kiteshield in order to gain the +X "Other bonuses" effect OR a special type of effect. So wearing any of the Dragon armour head, torso, leg, and shield to gain the +X "Other bonuses" effect. Whatever the +X "Other bonuses" Jagex wants it to be. Or the buff could be entirely something else, of couse. I guess if Jagex wants to you could do it without having the Dragon boots, Dragon sq shield, and Dragon kiteshield equipped to gain the +X "Other bonuses" effect OR some other special effect, just so you could have the shoe slot for something else, and so that you have some kind of hybrid shoe slot to wear when PK in Dragon armour. The reason?? Because the Dragon boots isn't really "armour" so to speak. Example, look at any of the Bronze - Rune armour set, it doesn't come with Bronze - Rune boots of the choosen armour; it's just boots. As for the shield, just so the Dragon armour can have a hybrid shield setup to make Dragon armour look more useful. This is just my reasoning why the Dragon boots, Dragon sq shield, and Dragon kiteshield isn't needed to gain the +X "Other bonuses" OR a special type of effect. The requirement should be like any 3 Dragon armour piece equipped so that it equals the same requirements as the Obsidian armour to gain the effect of whatever Jagex wants the mixed Dragon armour buff to be; either +X "Other bonuses" OR a special type of effect. I'm suggesting this buff because if you look at it, first example you have Obsidian armour that has a special effect when all 3 Obisidian armour pieces are equppied. Second example is Barrows' items that have a special effect when wearing the full Barrows set along with the matching Barrow weapon that matches with that Barrows armour. Dragon has spec weapons, but has no type of +X "Other bonuses" OR a special type of effect when wearing the full Dragon armour or mixed Dragon armour setup as mentioned above, thus making Dragon armour undesirable and unpopular to PK with (like really bad). Why not give Dragon armour some love (along with unpopular Dragon weapons as mentioned above) since Dragon armour isn't really popular at all, especially when it comes to equpping Dragon armour to go PK. So by buffing the full Dragon armour OR mixed Dragon armour setup, it would make it just as popular and compete with those items, like the Helm of neitiznot, Obsidian armour/weap, Bandos armour/weap, and the Fighter torso setup. This would really balance it out and gives a slightly better diversity to the game. I would love to see Dragon armour PK in action because you rarely or don't ever see it in a PK scenario, and that obviously has to do with it being unpopular, undesireble, and just flat out awful. So to end my closing statement, why not give full Dragon armour set OR mixed Dragon armour set, and those unpopular Dragon weapons as mentioned above a buff? It wouldn't hurt those other gear setup as mentioned, but rather give a selection of diversity to the game. Dragon weapons already have spec attacks, which is on the right track, but by also giving the full Dragon armour OR mixed Dragon armour a buff would certainly make it an equal playing field if you ask me. Which means we would finally see a mixture of players using full Dragon armour set OR mixed Dragon armour set with buffed Dragon weapons in action in regards to PK. Also I'm leaning towards giving the +X "Other bonuses" OR a special type of effect to the mixed Dragon armour setup (example: Dragon med helm, Dragon chainbody, Dragon platelegs OR Dragon plateskirt, and Dragon sq shield, but can be in any combination setup) instead of the full Dragon armour setup (example: Dragon full helm, Dragon platebody, Dragon platelegs OR Dragon plateskirt, and Dragon kiteshield) because if you think about it, the Dragon full helm is expensive and not everyone can afford it. So by going with the mixed Dragon armour setup with either a +X "Other bonuses" OR a special type of effect, this would help out those players that aren't rich and can't afford the Dragon full helm.

This is all excellent stuff. Revitalise old weapons, rebalance powerful stuff - make magic elemental types matter, classes of ranged weapons would be great. Having to gear more appropriately for each fight will be great, and high-end players who do a lot of gear switches might have a new meta too. This is all great. Even as an ironman, perhaps drops that I'd otherwise not care about might be helpful now in certain situations. 10/10

Dragon battleaxe is used in Pest Control for a cheap melee boost at the start of every game. Gargoyle - Leaf-bladed battleaxe. (costs just 58K and works great) Abyssal demon - Arclight (save up your ancient shards and shove them in that sword)

4:19 One other thing, they should make each tier of spells have the same max hit as the highest lvl spell you've unlocked in that tier, meaning if I only have air strike, then it has the base max hit of air strike as it is right now, but if I then unlock the higher lvl strike spells it get the base max hit of said strike spells, meaning at lvl 13 magic when you've unlocked all the strike spells each of them have a base max hit of 8, this should ofcourse be the same for every tier of spells, including the ancient spells. Considering how much max hits matter in terms of dps this would be absolutely key, to make all the spells equal, and I think doing it this way would make sense and not undermine the importance of higher lvl spells.

I liked the difference at vorkath for example. Melee vorkath with a Zammy hasta compared to aby whip is immense in difference due to the stab weakness.

Well the thing is, my bloodveld task in the catacombs of kourend already DOES go much faster when I use Arceuus magic. I still see people there whipping with prayer on, meanwhile I'm safespotting and hitting them with mark of darkness, demon bane, and thralls. It's not so much that there's no point to this, it's that people are just too lazy or too stupid. This change will do nothing to alleviate it. What you SHOULD potentially do, is make a slayer master that INSISTS you use an enemy's weakness when fighting them, and if more than 50% of the damage is not in that attack style, the kill doesn't count. They could have keys and a chest too, and probably be less combat level than Konar, with lesser rewards.

Something I think really needs to change is how magic armor is PAPER to ranged and melee attacks. Virtus has no ranged defense but ranged armor has a lot of magic defense

Part of that is from the combat triangle. Range is supposed to beat magic, magic is supposed to beat melee, and melee is supposed to beat range. I sometimes doubt if the combat triangle was a good idea in Runescape, but changing it would cause cries that the "sky is falling". Many magic armors are robes with no defense at all except against magic. This is partly why I hope the splitbark will be released to F2P.

ah yes so nightmare is this end game long hard difficult boss with 1 in 50000000 drop rates so no one wants to do it, so instead of fixing the issue like making it a fun toa raid that scales rewards with difficulty, we're just gonna keep the 1 in 50000000 drop chance, keep the difficulty, keep the stupid location that takes 10000 hours to walk to, no bank, but maybe hopefully slightly bufff a stupid crush weapon, and then jagex wonders why we don't wanna do nightmare

I think it'd make more sense to buff inquisitor's armour rather than the mace itself. It's basically just adamant armour when it's supposed to be a top tier set.
