When I was in my teens and early 20s, I flew out of bed. When I was in my 30s and early 40s, I jumped out of bed. When I was in my 40s and early 50s, I rolled out of bed. Now that I am north (south?) of 60, I barely get out of bed. 🛌😴

🛌 Such a great topic! I am watching this trying to stay awake after my run. I tend to need a quick cat nap after my runs. I believe I get more sleep nowadays than I used to. My smartwatch helped me go in the right direction with that. I’ve gotten off course since it broke. But Santa asked me about it the other night! Anyways the cortisol release is spot on and the eating more on less sleep too! At least for this guy. Another Great one Matt!

@@Deadbuck73 A nap after a run always feels good when it’s during the day, but it’s funny that it doesn’t work when I need to sleep the whole night. I’m happy to hear Santa is doing her research!

Another great topic. Generally, most of my mid-week runs are done the evening, with me getting to bed within three hours of finishing. I have a distance that I know if I exceed I'll be awake three to four hours before my normal rise time. 🛏

I've always hated getting up really early to run, it's usually my least favorite part of any race I do. I tend to go for a middle of the day run, my job let's me start a little earlier and just that a long lunch.

I like to sleep in a cool room, about 15°C (59°F). Here in the Netherlands winter is coming and I don't mind running and sleeping when it's getting colder. I don't like the short daylight. I try to use the 3-2-1 rule before going to sleep. No food 3 hours before, no drinks 2 hours before and no screens/electronics 1 hour before 🛌.

Great topic! Sleep is the most important recovery tool we have 🛌 Most of my life I had been a night owl and as a consequence had trouble waking up in the morning. I was primarily a night runner at the beginning and as time passed I have transitioned most of my runs (at least workouts and long runs) to daytime or at most to late afternoon. I still do a night easy run here and there but they are much less frequent. I think that has helped with my sleep. Recently I also reduced my PM coffee intake. I drink decaf coffee at night so it would not disrupt my sleep. Finally, I take magnesium and melatonin (low dose) before going to bed. Not sure if they are really helping. I also developed the habit of drinking milk mixed with plain kefir before bed or if I don't have kefir, eat a few spoons of plain yogurt. They might help with sleep or at least help with my daily protein intake and provide some useful bacteria for gut health.
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 22 күн бұрын
@@TolunayOrkun I used to work nights and would take a melatonin pill in the morning to help me sleep. The funny thing was that I’m not sure if it really helped because I always slept fine if I didn’t take it. I was probably just so exhausted after working all night that sleep wasn’t an issue. Ref your kefir intake, there are so many benefits to it that kefir anytime is probably a great idea for most people. I pour it on my Cheerios. 😄

Hey Matt.... I watched the video, and kept wondering - why do you need a watch on each hand (!) + and oura(?) ring?! Now to the point: I too disklike training in the evening; morning are FAR better for me. Same goes for night races - I prefer to avoid them. I also prefer to eat my supper early, very early. Finishing all the stomach "issues" long enough before bed time improves my sleep tremendously. Also removing unnecesssary stuff from the bedroom helps a lot. Not sure why, but it's a fact (for me). cellphones/Laptops/iPads are also kicked out of the room; A TV I don't even own - waist of time and energy, yuck! Now what about those 2 watches... are you living in two time zones simultaneously?! 🛌🛏
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 23 күн бұрын
@@avifrunner I also keep any/all devices out of my bedroom and although I have a TV mounted the wall in the living room, it never gets turned on. The two watches are a bit of a funny habit to explain. I run with two watches so I can record data in more than one place, and have a backup in case data gets lost. Recently I’ve been wanting to track my HRV in several places because it’s been low for a long time (due to having COVID a few months ago). Also, when I am testing a new device I will wear several devices so I can compare the data. Currently I’m testing the Ultrahuman Ring Air, so I am tracking my sleep/HR data on all devices. I may be testing the new Coros Pace Pro soon, so I will probably be wearing several devices for a while. 😄
