I think there's great truth in this statement. "Discipline" is essentially the idea of negating impulses that would otherwise lead to comfortable or "easy" behaviors. Without any discipline whatsoever, a person would be entirely beholden to their impulses to obtain food, sex, comfort, whatever. With discipline, the ability to deny the impulses to seek those things (i.e. Kipchoge denies his impulse to be at rest while training), a person can do whatever else they want. Obviously you have to eat, but if you CAN abnegate those desires where possible, therefore being disciplined, you gain a tremendous amount of freedom.

Yes, Farah is the home soil hero and was then the greatest runner in the world, but there should have been more excitement for the way Kipchoge ran. It's not like Farah was SLOW, they were all stoked for him to break the record after the first 800, but Kipchoge smelled blood and stepped up. The former world champion runs a statement race against the current one, takes him down in front of his home crowd--these are the moments when you see what an athlete is really made of, and it just gets completely elided by the focus on Farah. Commentators ought to be fans of the sport, not just a particular athlete, and this was a great moment for the sport. If Farah ran in Kenya, you can bet the broadcast would be all over him as much as the Kenyans.

The fastest person I know runs a sub-11 100m so no, if I kick that up a notch it’s still way faster than these guys are running. They’re running about 15 second 100m for 2 miles, which is flying, but it’s not a sprint. Also, they do not look like they’re jogging at all, they look like they’re going very fast

Mohammad Farah was overrated, in my opinion. The success he had came during a 'lull' in elite running; some of the greats were getting older, and the newcomers hadn't reached their peak. Put him in any other Olympics, and he wouldn't have been on the podium. @@smokeysauce3064 kipchoge has a better pr's on practically every distance.. he loses on the 1500 meters(though his mile time would put him at a faster pace) and on the 10000 meters(on track, on the road he gets crushed) kipchoge wins on any road distance as well as the 1 mile, 3000m, 2 mile, 5000m on track. there shouldn't be any doubt that kipchoge is the superior athlete.

The reason the commentators are taking about Mo Farah more is because he was attempting to break a WR, which is pretty insane history. So when he failed, they talked about Mo because that was the primary focus on that race. And of course, later on mo broke the indoor record.
