Want to use a washing machine motor for running a homemade rock tumbler. I’ve kept the pulley and belt. How would I control the speed? By pulleys or resistors?

Nowadays you can buy extremely inexpensive motor drivers that are good quality and very accurate. That would be the easiest approach.

So my motor can run at 1400rpm, is this limited by voltage? I assume the more voltage you put into it, the higher the rpm? Which i assume could be controlled by a potentiometer?
@TheOffGridFamily14 күн бұрын
I would assume that's correct but I can't be a hundred percent sure I haven't done as much testing as I'd like to. I will do more testing this year. I will do an entire series on motors

have you tried higher dc inputs? battery in series
@TheOffGridFamily10 ай бұрын
No I haven't. I'd assume they can take higher but I'd be careful as you don't want to burn it out

Well explained thank you.So if you want the motor to run to turn in the opposite direction, do you just swap the battery leads over?Just to clarify things.M
@TheOffGridFamily2 жыл бұрын
In theory Yes. Some motors are a little strange but 99% should allow you to change the rotation by changing the polarity. If you need any help at all just send me a message. Stay safe brother :)

Those it have enough tongue to roll a pulley of a generator alternator and if run for long. Would it warn out?
@TheOffGridFamily2 жыл бұрын
These motors are designed to last for years, as for torque it depends on the type of motor you have. I'd do some tests on the one you have but I'd say it should have enough to run an alternator.

Can you still use the capacitor as most come with them

Ive not even tried, I worked this out and not tried anything else. If you try and get it to work then please leave a comment

can i do the same with brushless washing machine motor
@TheOffGridFamily Жыл бұрын
Possibly. I've tried multiple washing machine motors and got them all to work, that said it doesn't mean all of them will work. Good luck

Great video!! By the way how much Current it draws? How long will it run if connected to 12v, 6.4Ah battery? Thank you!

Hey great questions but unfortunately I cannot answer them. I haven't done any testing at all. I will be in the future however other projects have taken priority at the moment

Can you do a video on the same process but using mains for power? Pleeeeeeease 🙏👍

Possibly, I'm really busy at the moment doing a few different things but I will add it to a list of future projects. I can't promise anything but will try. Stay safe my friend

I've been trying this for 2 days with 120 volt AC motor to a DC battery I can't figure it out
@TheOffGridFamily2 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, is it a universal motor? I have another video on how this process works, just a slightly different way of figuring out the wiring. Check out my channel for the other one.
