You just have to ask yourself who you want to be. The king with all the treasure in the land, or the knight seeking treasure through the adventures of the quest. What I’m saying is in a world where the journey is more important than the destination, record collecting is more exciting than having every record. Kind of paradoxical I suppose

Mike, I've got an idea for more space. Get rid of all the eagles records. I don't think you're gonna start listening to those later. Also, cut some of the box sets.

Joe Reagoso and Friday Music in general is a menace to the vinyl community. They actually had the audacity to charge $40 for that joke of a Monkees reissue for RSD last year 😂 Plus I truly don’t understand his insistence on mastering everything himself (often to very mixed results). Like, dude, you’ve got THEE Kevin Gray. Just let him work his magic.

Have done that thinning out move on the vinyl collection several times. Takes much more time than most may think. Tried to thin from 11K down to about 6K. Eventually everyone runs out of shelving space unless they are UMG.

I just got rid of my old, crummy pressing of Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell album on Vinyl, and i hope to find the Friday Music pressing of this album too!!!

If you buy a Friday music record, I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'm sure a few might sound alright and greatest hits records are sub par. If I put my ear about 3 feet from my speaker, I can almost hear the America album. They need to do more QC on some of these lables and inform us about what is what. Same with a lot of Legesys.

Bat Out of Hell - from an interview with Kevin, he fixed some of the mastering and eventually told Joe that he would no longer cut for him because he did not know what he was doing (paraphrasing) and Kevin did not want his name attached. Cut from files - I have this one (I hunted out the ones where Kevin was involved, the other few that I bought were terrible but I was caught out on that) and it is superb.

I bought a Chuck Mangione Feels So Good lp for one dollar in M- condition a couple years ago. I got home and it was a mono version. Being recorded in 1977, I just assumed it would be in stereo. 😂

I got the hot buttered soul, and it is fantastic. I really want a great copy of that James Brown, been hunting for a while now but haven’t found the one I’m after. James Brown is just is just such a legend. Gonna check out that Friday music Meat Loaf now, sounds right up my street

I have about 1000 I records I would like to sell. I'm in Canada, not as easy as if I was in the US. I met Todd Rundgren backstage at a Toronto show. He talked about diff albums he produced since everyone was asking. Someone shouted, "Meat Money" and Todd had a good reaction since he produced one of the biggest sellers of all time, Bat Out Of Hell. I wonder what $$ he got from that deal. I'm surprised your not into later Roxy albums Mike, like For Your Pleasure and or Manifesto.

Follow up to Bat was never recorded by Meat. What was supposed be an album called Renegade Angel became Steinmans Bad for Good. Meat was insane when he was younger. Springsteen on steroids. Saw him tour many times from Bat to Bat 2 and Deadringer to many others. Voice went as he got older sadly. But my fave album is Dead Ringer. Fun fact. Total eclipse of the heart, Holding out for a hero and Making Love Out of Nothing At All, were all slated for Meatloaf but his record company wouldn’t pay Steinman, the royalties. So they went to Bonnie Tyler and Air Supply

Hey Mike, once again, thank you for the great content. Always nice to see what you keep for yourself. While i'm here, a few remarks: 1) Beyond the collector's argument, I've never understood the need to keep lesser copies of a record (Mono fold-downs & what not). I mean, if you're a fan of a band/artist, it (kinda) makes sense to get these weird releases but you can't be fan of every artist, right? 2) I'm also facing the same issues with 45rpm/thick cover reissues, This is why i dig the OJCs and AS won't see much of my money with their Atlantic 75 series. Why they haven't released them in both speed and/or cherry-picked the ones that deserved the 45rpm treatment is beyond me. 3) Speaking of that series, i'm surprised you've praised so much the CSN. The recording is known for being flawed. I understand Chad's care improved those OGs but i've read in a lot of places it wasn't justifying the price tag (which ends up at 107€ if sent to France (according to your site)). Just my friendly 2 cents ;) PS: hopefully you'll find some time this year to do shout-outs like you did for Fleetwood, the Doors & co.

Bat out of hell has some well recorded songs, especially Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad. I also have the red and the black variants of this reissue and it sounds incredible :)

As I am listening, I would like to know how many records in your personal collection? do you know? and where do you get your shelves? I am approaching a space issue and the good thing it has caused me to become more selective of purchases, more conscious of them anyway, and also caused me to do a purge of multiple copies or records I likely will not listen to anymore, I however refuse to use my unfinished basement for any overflow, so I am working within the space I have.

I wish someone would load the Bat Out Of Hell master tapes back up, slow it down to the correct speed, and reissue it on two disks without the squeaky vocals.

The new CSN album was pressed at QRP, using the original 45rpm Classic Records masters. I have that 45rpm 200g, 4-disc, CR version of the album and it is a little better, in my opinion, than the QRP pressing. The CR album was pressed by RTI on premium vinyl, and not long after this, RTI stopped pressing 200G vinyl. It was too much of a hassle. Through a long learning curve, Chad Kassem figured it out himself. After all the QC problems they had when QRP re-pressed the CCR "Absolute Originals"(originally pressed by RTI) and the disaster with their first UHQR Jimi Hendrix release(a 16% defective return rate, of which I was told by AS/AP personally), they started thinking about dropping the 200g as a regular weight, and as we have seen now, 180g is their regular audiophile standard. Then, thinking about it, I just wonder about how many un-opened sealed boxes of the first run of UHQR-0001 there are languishing on collectors' shelves? Whomever opens it and plays it are going to get a nasty surprise. I'll bet, if AP knew about them, that 16% defective rate would really escalate.

Mike, my ears pricked when you mentioned “one step” and Cat Stevens in the same sentence as pressings you have. Was that a slip or is there indeed a Cat Stevens One step reissue? I have the Mobile Fidelity UHQR of Tea for the Tillerman - one of my favourite albums and perhaps that’s what you were referring to?

Everyone should admit that you were the main guy talking about SPARS codes. Neil Young I think was the first artist, that I’m aware of, to include one on every release, maybe you got the idea from Neil?

I am trying to get into music that i don't listen to, My cousin was talking about how great Coltrane was. I picked up an album , i don't remember the name but he was just going off . I could not hear a melody. I quickly turned it off and have never tried jazz again. I guess i should try one of the classic jazz album I love Ella Fitzgerald but not when she does scat.

Man there really needs to be an official reissue program for the Marilyn Manson catalog, the amount of unofficial releases out there is a testament to that.

Yeah, they reissued Mechanical Animals recently but then pulled it from shelves at the last minute. My LRS owner is trying to sell it for close to $200 when MSRP was $60. My understanding is that the label recalled that reissue due to the legal allegations against Manson. I don't see his catalog getting reissued anytime soon if this is how the label is treating the situation.

Bat Out Of Hell has also been a special album to me since childhood, but I agree that it is a lousy mix. The EQ seems to change multiple times within each song (at least the longer ones). Heaven Can Wait is the only song that sounds right. But everything else about the album is just fantastic. Interesting take on Roxy Music. I do not get the hype over Avalon either (it is okay), but I adore the debut. One of my favorite albums ever. It opened my ears to all that stuff that was huge in the UK in the 70s but only had a cult following in the US. The first five LPs are some of my all-time favorites. And regard to seeing the Stones, are you saying that this could be the last time? Maybe the last time, you don't know?
