Cochise County residents are taking action as residential wells in the area go dry. Some say the increasing number of farms owned by out-of-state companies are depleting the region's groundwater levels too quickly.

Crazy how there telling residents to lower their water usage while still allowing huge golf courses and farming which is incredibly water intensive. Like those two factors are running arizona dry

@@GibsonReview Agree that turf golf courses in the deserts are hard to justify. But there is a cooling effect that offsets some of the heat generated by all of the concrete, asphalt, buildings and other heat absorbing elements in cities.

It's always been industry always will be industry, the people themselves only account for 20% or less of the total water usage. It's like blaming pollution on people because they drive gasoline cars, yet they have the exact same breakdown that industry is creating 80-90% of the pollution and regular everyday person impact is 10-20% of the total pollution. Anyways, the regular guy always gets blamed instead of capitalistic greedy corporations.

Terrible idea. You have any idea how large a pipe would have to be to bring enough water to feed a community like that? And how expensive it would be? And the fact it goes to the Rockies, which have earthquakes all the time. Now, it might be doable to run a much shorter distance pipe from California to Arizona. Bringing water in from a desalination plant. It's still going to be expensive though

@@pinacolada1393 Then you and other voters need to start developing that technology sooner rather than later and create a sustainable system. Right now bleeding your aquifers dry is not your answer. You cannot get blood from a turnip, nor can you forever and increasingly deplete your aquifers. You created the mess, be part of the solution. Demand better from your local water boards, farmers and communities. I see many golf courses and green lawns in your area that are wasteful. You chose to live in a desert and now you are learning that water is not easy to come by there. Get busy or start moving. As for Source using solar and fans to pull in air through fans for a water source... looks like it will only make a small dent in your problem which still leaves your area in hellscape. The proud-to-be "conservative" speaking in this video misses the point about cattle ranches and dairy farms, as well as the crops needed to sustain these farm animals. A lactating cow consumes 30-50 gallons a day. It takes ~1,800 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. Moreover, corporations are drilling ever deeper into aquifers that private citizens and smaller ranches can't afford, to become and then sustain these massive agricultural activities. The fact is, droughts of surface water (rivers) equate to droughts in acquifers. They are connected. Therefore, best farming conservation efforts pale in comparison to the ever-increasing amounts of water these corporations need to remain profitable over the needs of "conservatives" to have fresh drinking water.

When I was a kid some family owned farm land in southern California. Time to water, he flooded his fields wasting thousands of gallons of water. When I asked why so much waste he said it doesn't matter the well will never dry up. .......... See the problem. He continued this for 30 years. Flooding the fields. Essentially wasting water letting it run all over down into roads. Ditches. They didn't care. They said it is infinite water. But we're they wrong.

We lost our family well in Cochise in the 80's. It was a somewhat more than 100 ft deep. Many others did too. Risk and cost of drilling a new one, possibly as deep as a thousand feet and still getting bad water caused many to have their water trucked in. I guess they haven't learned a damn thing with fifty years of trying. Looking at the news from the whole state though, you'll all be sucking sand not too long in the future.
