Cochise County residents are taking action as residential wells in the area go dry. Some say the increasing number of farms owned by out-of-state companies are depleting the region's groundwater levels too quickly.

Terrible idea. You have any idea how large a pipe would have to be to bring enough water to feed a community like that? And how expensive it would be? And the fact it goes to the Rockies, which have earthquakes all the time. Now, it might be doable to run a much shorter distance pipe from California to Arizona. Bringing water in from a desalination plant. It's still going to be expensive though

Maybe stop trying to sustain a farm in a frigging desert environment. When you are removing 4 gallons for every 1 gallon going into the aquifer sooner or later it doesn't matter how deep the well if there isn't any water left.

@@Dobviews No! @@pinacolada1393 Then you and other voters need to start developing that technology sooner rather than later and create a sustainable system. Right now bleeding your aquifers dry is not your answer. You cannot get blood from a turnip, nor can you forever and increasingly deplete your aquifers. You created the mess, be part of the solution. Demand better from your local water boards, farmers and communities. I see many golf courses and green lawns in your area that are wasteful. The proud-to-be "conservative" speaking in this video misses the point about cattle ranches and dairy farms, as well as the crops needed to sustain these farm animals. A lactating cow consumes 30-50 gallons a day. It takes ~1,800 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. Moreover, corporations are drilling ever deeper into aquifers that private citizens and smaller ranches can't afford, to become and then sustain these massive agricultural activities. The fact is, droughts of surface water (rivers) equate to droughts in acquifers. They are connected. Therefore, best farming conservation efforts pale in comparison to the ever-increasing amounts of water these corporations need to remain profitable over the needs of "conservatives" to have fresh drinking water.

When I was a kid some family owned farm land in southern California. Time to water, he flooded his fields wasting thousands of gallons of water. When I asked why so much waste he said it doesn't matter the well will never dry up. .......... See the problem. He continued this for 30 years. Flooding the fields. We lost our family well in Cochise in the 80's. It was a somewhat more than 100 ft deep. Many others did too. Risk and cost of drilling a new one, possibly as deep as a thousand feet and still getting bad water caused many to have their water trucked in.
