Love your stuff guys! Are you planning on heading back to NZ for the next cyclone season? If so, would love to see you here!

Sadly not as we are moving ever onward around the world. Next up is Indonesia then back to England via South Africa and the Caribbean.

Sailing Yacht Florence wow that will be interesting to watch and quite unusual - most of the cruisers I meet who transit through NZ end up concluding that the S Pac is the best not and after getting to Indo they circle back here 😀 So will be quite a different adventure to continue around the bottom of Africa and genuinely do a circumnavigation! Will watch with interest - but do watch out for those pirates as you head east!

What a great video! Good job on the coconut Florence! So crazy that by some random chance I'm half way around the world away from home, in the training area you guys sailed through, and watching your video while dealing with the lousy weather that was chasing you. You guys are inspiring! Take care.

I believe that one of my other favourite channels Free Range Sailing (Mirool) is up there as well. I hope you meet. It would be awesome to see you both together! They left their sign at the PIYC on this week's episode (and were worried about the same cyclone). They can give you some great tips on where to go further north as they have been coming from the Kimberlies.

Yep originally left there to provide meat for passing ships, There is some speculation they were of Indian origin and may actually be a pure blood line since lost in their country of origin. I think Cate & John who live on the island can provide a bit more info. You can also learn a whole heap more from Free Range Sailing they just posted a vid from Middle Percy.

@JohnTaylor-bf6ll2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've been noticing that myself - the great variety, and huge difference in Australian wildlife. I assume it can be explained by the Madagascan theory (I'm not yet sure if you'll be there) - that is, that an island mass that has been isolated for countless millenia, will develop its own unique species. I would imagine, however, that such an island must be sufficiently large (for variety of diets) and also must have favourable climes (so Britain, for example, wouldn't be a contender).

Good Evening, I wonder how you handle laundry at sea, including large things like sheets and towels. I am thinking about moving from a 43 ft Nordhavn with a washer/dryer to a 44 ft classic monohull with no room for a washer or a dryer. I have heard of some salad spinner looking things for laundry. Many thanks, Maldwin
@SailingYachtFlorence5 жыл бұрын
Hi Maldwin We used to do Laundry by hand to save money, however we got fed up with that and now just save it all up for when we find a launderette. If it gets desperate we just wash out a few essentials by hand. We bought a couple of extra sets of sheets and towels so we can go longer between launderettes

Well done guys, very creative mini Florence Loved it Are you game enough to come down the west coast? If you want undeveloped coastline then we've got that continents long! Keep up the great vids.!
@SailingYachtFlorence5 жыл бұрын
We would love to but we only have so much time before we need to return to work, and we set ourselves the goal of sailing all the way round the world back to where we started in England. There are a lot of places that are on the list for a second lap of the planet though if we get the chance again.

Lovely fish, next time try filleting without gutting and scaling, saves getting the boat covered in scales and smelly inards. Lay fillet skin down, hold the skin as you run your knife separating flesh and skin.

PLEASE include in your costing the professional "guestimate" for the non-marina price ie:- life on the hook, what you think a minimum cost would be and that Jewie is what we call a soapie, a juvenile and they can taste a bit "soapie" under 2.5' in length, but I've had a few and they have been fine.
@SailingYachtFlorence5 жыл бұрын
We recorded and will break out the cost of all mooring fees we have paid (marinas and mooring buoys) so you can just take that off the total. We mainly live on the hook anyway.
@justme.97115 жыл бұрын
Thank you SOOOOO MUCH! The hook is the way to go. It really is pathetic/ridiculous when I see cruisers being low on budget and they are commonly at a marina, especially if they are non-smokers and little to none alcohol. Courtesy moorings and the anchor are very wise options.

Hi Casey, We mainly edit video! Roughly for every finished minute of video we have to spend 2 hours editing. If we are not doing that then we are planning our route ahead, fixing things, cooking, cleaning and eating. We don't miss having a TV as we wouldn't have time for it. When we are having a break from all that we play a lot of backgammon or cards (rummy).

Keep your feet inside the boat once north of Mackay, it's croc country and if you do that in say The Hinchenbrook channel you may not live to tell the tale. Oh and never anchor for more than three days in any one spot or keep a regular routine. These are real APEX predators who view you as a tasty dish.
