Hi Aussie50. What do you think about using this thing for make a utrasonic cleaner? The drivers (aka loudspeakers) goes +/- 50Khz. A HD at 5000rpm and 10 notches in the platter can splash the bath... perhaps with the platter perpendicular and a quarter sumeged. sorry for me inglish. Regards
@MrHardCore2Quad11 жыл бұрын
Ed, you should have become a (mad) scientist! :D Are the 3-wire motors in HDD-s BLDC-s too? I have seen some of that type too.
@TheScrappingJeahaha11 жыл бұрын
have you ever tryed to run an ac or dc motor under water ? the conductivity should stop it but it runs ( and yes they have such little connectors at the commutator ;D )

Pretty good going for some of those hard drives.

Not sure. Maybe a variable power source. Might be kinda fun to see how high one will go.
@Kuumidori11 жыл бұрын
Have you tried running power straight to the platter motor instead of running it through the drive PCB? Would be fun to watch a few of them spin themselves to death... or launch platters out into the open~
@francistheodorecatte11 жыл бұрын
depends on the hard drive, but yes, most (modern) drives are sensorless.

Actually I have BOTH of those - the WD's motor is still running, that's why I kept it around

@roymcbacon441711 жыл бұрын
u can't because the motor isn't ran on straight voltage, the PCB sends pulses to it or something of that nature. pure power would probably just kill it, or do nothing.

Can you do one in diesel, then take it out and set it on fire while it's still spinning? Or perhaps once that fire ban you mentioned previously has been lifted...
