I'm not going to lie, this was a very very hard day on the entire crew.
But there's a silver lining on every dark cloud - we made EXCEPTIONAL progress today, and had a lot of fun too.
Gotta take the highs with the lows, and every day is an adventure on the Great Loop.
We met up with SocioPath again (I'm still not a fan of that boat's name) and we made progress together down the ICW, through Pamlico Sound and up the Neuse River.
And all I wanted to do was make a simple boat tour video and call it a day!

I was planning to include a tour of the boat in today's video, but then everything went off the rails at the same time. If you were looking forward to the tour, don't worry - it's coming tomorrow (hopefully) These videos are a lot of work to make but your comments and enthusiasm for them makes it all worth it a hundred times over! Thank you so much for watching. I mean it.

We has the same boat when we did the loop in 2016-2017. We had 150' chain on main anchor. Plus two aluminum anchors on new heavy line.

Good video, it shows real boating. I liked your idea of changing out the rode to chain, unfortunately you lost your anchor before the switch. Consider getting ing a second anchor for this Stern and as a backup. I like some of the previous about checking the air vent to the fuel tank. Spiders are always building nests in air vents especially on boats from the Chesapeake Bay area.

This was genuinely an interesting day for you all! Glad you made the harbor and are docked for the rest of the day. You might check the vent for your tank that does not take fuel that well for a blockage that kicks the pump off prematurely. Better cruising tomorrow!

The reason a fuel tank prematurely overflows when filling is from having the fuel tank vent being restricted or blocked. It usually happens at the vent outlet on the side of the hull near where the deck fill is. If that vent outlet, which typically has screen, get clogged with dirt or bugs or hull polish, it will cause the fuel tank to build with pressure as you fill it because the air being displaced by the fuel doesn't have a way to escape. The fuel then climbs up the fuel fill pipe and over flows onto the deck. Check that outlet screen and see if it is blocked. You can use a pin to clean out the screen. FYI, those engines are not designed to run at such slow rpm's. They of course are more fuel efficient, but diesels are designed to run at 80% of maximum rpm. Otherwise they will build up carbon in their combustion system and you shorten their life.

I brought a 31' cabin cruiser down from Illinois to St Pete...we carried an extra 40 gallons of fuel (gasoline) as we almost ran out after being denied fuel in paducah Kentucky because we didn't have a "TAX" number...also in a pinch the coast guard will bring you fuel if your dead in the water. Don't ask me how I know.

Older marine diesel engines are set to be efficient at no more than 1800 rpms. The newer high-output diesel can rev 2500-3500 and be reliable to 2500 hours.

Smh, everyone has to learn. Running up the IC isn't like crossing the ocean, or even a huge lake - it's actually a great place to learn how to handle a boat with less risk. I'm sure you had to learn all the stuff you learned and were perfect along the way. Most boaters are helpful and encouraging to the newbys - that's what makes the boating community great. I bet this crew has taken their boat farther and seen more than the typical boater - I'm happy for their experience and loving the vids.

@@CullenCraft: I understand you filled one tank with 150 gallons so you ready knew you had a fuel issue,. Why did you decide it was a good idea to run at 3200 rpm and not conserve fuel? It was just poor planning risk management and even worse seamanship. I will go even further ROOKIE mistake? I hope that is your defense if not you have no business running a vessel. NO EXCUSES NOT TO MANAGE YOUR FUEL IN THE OPEN WATER

Now just imagine running four or even five engines, all gasoline, at WOT, as shown in the various YT boating channels. That's my beef with those channels - they give a somewhat unrealistic view of boating in my opinion. This is how real boating works - worrying about fuel and weather, equipment going bad, but most importantly, spending good time with great friends and seeing stuff many people will never see or experience.

Something is not correct. You must be only using one tank. You should be getting at lease 200 miles or more between fuel stops. Also, I hope you buy a new anchor and chain before you depart the next day. Foolish to travel with no anchor.

Ok. That makes sense then. I have 454's like you do on the CC and I burn 40 gallons per hour at 20 knots. I have a 400 g tank so about 200 miles on a fill up but I rarely let it slip below 1/2. Fast but not cheap!

@@deborahbaty3369 That's what I've learned over the years...fast or cheap - one or the other when it comes to boats. When your mileage switches from mile per gallon to gallons per mile, might be time to slow down, lol.
