Running Session! - Bring on the Diesels.

Taking a break from modelling…..
Tracks cleaned, diesels out and power on. Time to run a couple of diesels - it’s been a while!
It’s just nice to sit back and chill for a while and watch some of my diesels being put through their paces.
It has also highlighted how badly I need to look at the couplings on these coaches - any ideas or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated 👍

Great layout Grandad! Just watching the running session and wondering, are your grandchildren interested. I have had my layout (not as grand as yours) for 30+ years but my own kids were never interested and my 6 year old grandson has no interest. I am hoping, at the moment , that perhaps my 2 year old granddaughter may take an interest and play trains with me!!

Thanks. I have one granddaughter who is 11 and isn’t really interested. She pops up to have a look but gets bored very quickly. Similar to you, none of my 3 kids were interested either. Maybe if/when some more grandchildren appear…

Great layout. Is the incline/decline that connects the upper level to the lower level out of sight? Regards Jim.

Thanks Jim. Yes, I’ve hidden it behind the hillside on the upper level. It comes out of the single line tunnel portal 👍

Can I ask another question please regarding the hidden incline/ decline. I only ask as I’m in the middle of designing my own layout with three levels and I notice your upper level seems about six inches higher than the lower so my question is how long have you had to make your incline and also what gradient is it? Thanking you in advance. Regards Jim

Hi Jim. The upper level is 95mm high (3.7 inches). I used the woodland scenics incline. Had to go for the 3% incline, couldn’t quite fit the preferred 2%. It works fine but some of my steamers are at the limit when pulling a rake of 6 or 7 coaches. Regards, Andy 👍

Layout is looking nice. But its all too clean. Some spots of rubbish and clutter will help make it look more lived in. Keep them coming. Take care of yourself. Take some time to just play with your train. But always keep a pad of paper and a writing utensil for any idea that get kicked up while doing so. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thanks. That’s my biggest problem - always going to add finishing details to an area but never quite get round to it before moving on to something else. I’ve been meaning to weather the retaining walls for over a year now! Notepad and pencil a good idea! 👍
