The carburetor you ordered was for a ford 9n 2n and 8n but your tractor is a ferguson tea 20 it is the same as an 8n but with an overhead valve engine and some other small changes, the fords had flathead engines. You should just clean the carb the needles dont seat very well and they leak.

Thank you. It’s a grey Ferguson; and Ford the bastard tried to rip off Harry Ferguson’s tractor design but Harry said fuckoffski to that action. The Ferguson 3point linkage system is still in principle the basis of every farm tractor to this very day. So, 5 out of 10 for tractor knowledge but 20 out of 10 for the hilarious commentary.

Henry Ford AND Harry Ferguson together built tractors (i'm not sure what years). it is odd that Henry would name the tractor Fordson because Ford Motor Co. was HIS company. looks like you have a what will be a good tractor, this is an example of one that has sat for a few to many years so get it running. what i have noticed over the years buying tractors and helping others to buy is any tractor that the LIGHTS work most of the time has been better cared for, i have walked away from tractors when the lights don't work (the owner not able or just lazy to maintain the tractor and keep the lights working).

As others have already posted, that's a Ferguson manufactured for Ferguson by the Standard Motor Company. It uses a Standard Vanguard engine. If you're a vintage British Sportscar Enthusiast, the exhaust note may sound vaguely familiar when you get it running. Triumph TR3 used the same engine. You can take that to mean Ferguson tractors were really fast or Triumph sports cars were really slow...

The CNC has nothing to do with it. Just take that carb apart and clean it, it probably has just a single gasket you can make if you ruin it disassembling it. I really like working on these old tractors because a clean carb, a sealed tank, new lines and all the screens /filters cleared and it should be pretty reliable with what really isn't that much work. And as a bonus you don't even have to crawl around on the ground to mess with the fuel tank like you would for a car. And I don't know who needs to hear this but I say it all the time. These days you want a plastic fuel tank ideally, if you can't get one, seal your steak tanks. The OEM coatings are gone or we're not designed for the blends of fuels that we have today and they will just ride away and put dirty fuel into your screens/filters. The supplies to everything that uses steel tank, be it a piece of equipment or a car.

@@berryreading4809 9N's(39-42) and 2N's(42-47) were dark grey, just like the Ferguson's. Some stories indicate that Ford initially bought up all the surplus battleship grey that predated the US Navy standardized paint colours, and the tractors shared the paint colour inconsistencies that the battleships did. Considering the 9n's were US market tractors, worries about the Luftwaffe definitely do not apply. Story goes that when Ferguson and Ford parted ways Harry took the paint codes with him. Hence why the 8N is a lighter grey with red castings.

If you got that tractor to brush hog with -- make sure to get an 'over running clutch' for the PTO (Tractor Supply carries them) -- without it the spinning hog will push you through a fence or into a ditch you don't want to wrangle in while you frantically depress clutch and brake pedals. The Ferguson mid 1950s TO35 and newer had two-stage 'live PTO' that the Fords didn't get until the mid 1960s. If we had no purpose for performing heart surgery for 60 years and then decided we needed to do it, do you think the the equipment and knowledge would just be immediately re-instated? No, new equipment would have to be built, and we'd obviously build it from scratch because technology has changed a fair bit in 60 years right? No point building 60 year old tech in 2022. But then we also haven't trained any surgeons to be heart surgeons either, so we'd have to re-learn how to do heart surgery from 60 year old books and papers because the only remaining heart surgeons are in their 90's. Thinking that we can instantly recreate lost wisdom is ridiculous.

We're lucky to have a local store what stocks 8N parts, which is a similar model. Pretty nice to have garden tractor. Loads of attachments and pretty tanky. Well you may not like this but you can find carburetors that are a lot more similar to the old one by looking for "fordson new zenith carburetor". The part you may not like is that the cheapest one I could find was from walmart (why not) and was about $150. Alternatively, this one looks too different, but I've had luck frankensteining 60 year old walbro carburetors insides and actuators with ones made today if that looks like it might be possible with the original and the new one. Also: why does your channel show subscriber number now? For me at least it hasn't shown it in years. Maybe the "new" style YT rolled out. Most of these 'graphical updates' to social media interfaces are just thinly veiled tricks to trojan horse in or out some 'features'.

Those carburators are really "easy" to "rebuild". That one didn't look too bad, I'm sure it is useable. I've had really good luck soaking them in simple green in an old crockpot on low heat. The gaskets are available and if needed can be made by yourself. one issues with that style original carb is the face that connects to the manifold has a tendency to warp. Nothing that a file and or sand paper on a flat surface (tablet saw, kitchen counter, ext) can't fix. Also be sure it's not your wife's favorite crockpot, not saying I made that mistake but she did get a nice new one after I tried it out!

About that manifold setup. Old Munktells had two fuel tanks. One small for gasoline, and one bigger for kerosene. When it's warm and cozy, you could run it on kerosene thanks to the pre-heated intake manifold. Back in the day it was way cheaper than gas. Bet this one could run on it too.. maybe. But like you said. It's not the way if you want some power 😅

Be sure to keep them away from any tractor since the Retro-Fabricators (yeah - the Cloners) never did get ANY training on replicating ANY tractor carb. 1 in 1,000 will work (by accidental mis-crossed construction and middle of the night upgrades). The very best advice you can be given is to meticulously clean and then rebuild the old carbonater. Mind you - that would be THE VERY BEST advice if someone were to, say, share it with you. I had one of these tractors go up in flames while I was on it for that exact reason. I was working in an orchard which had 4 or 5 of them which saved me from being fired for supposedly overfilling the gas tank and causing the fire. The mechanic checked the other tractors and they all had substantial leaks starting. We got the fire out by re-directing the 3 inch sprinkler hand lines which pumps a shit ton of water, basically like dumping bath tubs of water. Exciting morning in the country for sure!

All my stuff cranks first pull with out touching it every since the last time we had that convo. on a pressure washer, he stored wet. he just doesnt listen. If you mean why we store carbs dry its because the evap of the small amount of gas in the bowl leaves a gummy film and the ethanol absorbs water. water floats on gas. Those old updraft carbs are stupid simple. Easy enough to clean it out and get it burbling again. The gaskets are probably hard as heck to find, but those will be really simple as well. Should be able to find a sheet of gasket material at nearly any parts store and just cut it out to the shape you need. Tear it down, try to save as much of the old gaskets as possible to use as patterns, soak the bits for a while in your choice of cleaner that isn't overly aggressive, and blow out any passages with compressed air. That's one of the things I like about working on those older engines. Damn near indestructible as long as they have/had oil in them when running and simple as the day is long. My buddy has his grandfather's old Model A that hasn't run since the 40's. Poured a little gas down the carbie and a few drops in the cylinders, thing fired right up.
