The whole "ally" thing is current day REGRESSIVE LEFT stupidity. Since I'm a gay man I find the entire claim of that to be ridiculous and insulting, as if we are in some war. The whole categorize someone into some group that you view as beneath you and needing your priceless help is about as gross and insulting as you can get. Either you're my friend or you are not. How did democrats become so freaking hypocritical and lame?

Theyre making art. Their view of the world is different to yours and mine Miss Vikki. Years of persecution kind of pushes people into a corner where all they can do is change their perspective from fear to "I don;t give two fucks what anyone thinks." At the end of the day if you hear when the woman at the end of the video decides to have a real decent chat with them, they open up. They were also probably HIGH as a kite, which alters reality. These people were just trying to make ends meet in a society that rejects them and leaves them in the shadows.

NYC in the 80s looks amazing, This is exactly how it is in my head when I imagine it. Dirty, gritty and real but with a certain unique twang to it that no other place has or had. No doubt it's just like any other major city now, now that we all worship the same brands just different temples, cities are becoming giant malls. No longer places filled with soul and personality, just giant trading floors in the game of life.

+SlyDoll Precisely. This is partly the reason I wish I was in my teens/20's through the late 60s,70s and early 80's when life (especially gay life) was lot more dangerous and underground. The seediness of being Gay is almost gone unless you go looking for it. I purposely travelled to london just to go to a Gay BathHouse just to experience what would've been the norm only a generation before me.
@SIyDoll
@SIyDoll 8 жыл бұрын
Whilst I understand your fascination for that world, it isn't really something to mourn. So many of my friends were beaten, abused and humiliated back then just for being gay. Their lives were plain awful at times. Even police were no protection...quite the opposite. Hiding away in underground clubs or meeting in secret and speaking a secret language seems glam but it was terrible. Your generation has missed out on some of the more excising sub cultures I agree but you have the internet...that's your thing.
@AndyJoTV
@AndyJoTV 8 жыл бұрын
I can't believe the changes there have been in one generation. It is crazy! Speaking of the internet I run a Gay Life and Advice blog www.OKImGay.com, I'd love to interview you about life back then? mage13011988 In NY you'll be slapped with a fine if you don't address people the way they wish to be addressed. You can call them what you want but you need to have a bank account to pay for it. If you don't pay the fine then you'll be served with a court appearance. If you don't show up then you'll have a bench warrant. Freedom of speech has to be paid for one way or another. Welcome to modern times.

lol :D I live in Europe baby and europe isnt as crazy as the us in terms of freedom of speech and how easy it is to sue people! USa is know for ridiculous lawsuits and peope dragging each other in front of judges for the msot ridiculous things! And by the way the things you said make no sense whatsoever lol hahahah I mean you also have the freedom to adress people the way you want! If I want to call rupaul a man, i can call him a man!! I m not hurting him physically so i can say what i want! its not like its a curse word! He is born a man, i see a man so i say hello sir! I msorry but thats how the world works! Ive never heared of that fine thing you were talking about Very hard to prove that someone calls you a man isntead of a woman i would imagine! How the hell do you prove it and even then you can always say that you were confused and didnt know how to adress that person and egt away with it But hey its the usa, the land where everyone an sue each other and ahtes each other and has no tolerance for each other! People on the street and online bully people all the time and its not illegal! As long as you dont threaten someone! People on the streets can call a woman for example hey honey or hey sexy or whore and its still legal! Thats your frredom of speech right there! lol Americans always crack me so hard!

This is amazing footage! I'd be in heaven to sit and watch all of Nelson 's footage! I should've been in New York during this time! Even though I was only like 8! LOL That time period just fascinates me!

@@ceciliarodalv1402 it goes to show that the ones that go out their way to be hateful and judgemental towards gays are the main ones that are secretly gay themselves, they try so hard to suppress their feelings, it's tragic.

Ru spanging has given me ALL of the life I need lmao for years i've struggled with homelessness and addiction and used to beg in my small hometown and used to let the bad comments and put downs get to me. Just coming out the other side but to think that mother Ru did the same thing is just unbelievable. She really did work her way to where she is which is why she's so inspirational

I am from Colorado, never been to NY, the closest thing I've been exposed to is the musical RENT. This is exactly the way Hollywood depicts the NY come-up. Such amazing footage. "Can I get a quarter for a slice?" Iconic.

Those who throw shade on Ru nowadays have no idea where she came from. Patton Oswalt said something similar in one of his shows - Ru crawled across the barbed wire fence for equality, just for some later generations to come and step on her. Anyone who knows gay history knows what Rupaul did for us, and what she had to go through to do it. Respect to her and to Lahoma!
