Lovely! Could you also do a part two about the Mesopotamian origins of Rupaul as the deity of Blood and Insecurity? She was known back then as Rusurri and people would burn heretics and enemies for her. Then, during the Black Plague, Rusurri was renamed Rupaustara, the embodiment of Cruel Summer and Ruthless Winter. If you look up paintings from the Witches of Salem, you can see a woman in sweatpants who eerily look like Rupaul, since she was the mother of the first coven ever and this is where she met her minion, Michelle Visage, known in Salem as Martha Greenwart.

If your granma is 90, she was born in 1935. Her "days" would have been her 30's, which was 1965, Ru was 5 years-old. By the time Ru was old enough to walk on heels, your granma was already in her late 50s/early 60s... so, please be real and don't post such lies like this! 🙄🤨

I started going to clubs in the 80s in ATLANTA one club in particular was called Weekends . She said in her book she got her college education at Weekends . Ru was a gogo dancer there and she also performed on stage as STARBOOTY . And in Atlanta she printed posters that said RuPaul is red hot. RuPaul is everything and she plastered all of midtown Atlanta with those posters. They were absolutely everywhere. She totally self promoted her self and she also made a movie called STARBOOTY that she filmed in Atlanta. Ru and Lady Bunny and Larry Tee performed at a club called The Celebrity Club and then they all moved to New York. She’s always been very close to Bunny .

Fun video. It’s nice to show people the RuPaul before drag race. I met RuPaul at the virgin megastore in 1999 in West Hollywood. He had just made “but I’m a cheerleader”. We chatted for a bit. He gave me his phone number and a hug. We are both the same height. I think he was concentrating on making music and movies at that time. Before the drag race explosion. He was already a pretty big deal in Los Angeles with his hit “supermodel”. And the follow up singles. I’m so happy for all his successes. His first biography was really good as well. If you get a chance to read that. We still run into each other once in a while at an event. And he always recognizes me and calls me sunshine. Maybe he doesn’t remember my name but I’ll take it. He is a very sweet man and it’s a shame I can’t post a picture of us together in the comments 💙

She says something like, 'Rupaul has helped so many queens and has given so many opportunities to less fortunate people, and she changed drag by making it go mainstream. She can frack if she wants to.' (Im paraphrasing lol) But the plot twist is: Kylie Sonique didnt even know what fracking was. 😂 truly and iconic moment and i live!! 💜💋✌️🤝✨️

@TheRandomTwinsM it's digging holes deep into the earth into rocks to acquire oil. Basically putting fractures deep in the earth rocks for more oil to flow through. Ru's property has oil, so she let's drillers aka frackers come and they pay Ru for it. It heavily damages the earth's crust among other things.

And the truth is, 99% of the people who attack Ru over "fracking" don't know what it is themselves. Ru doesn't personally frack. Ru owns land and gets paid for the usage. On top of that, these companies can forcibly drill on your land even if you don't consent. So to go after Ru like she's this evil monster is an ignorant lie and it's actually kind of racist because why are you picking on a single black man for this? Why don't you get your ass out there and criticize Republicans? Why don't you criticize your family members for what they do?
@1bwash
@1bwash Жыл бұрын
@@danielorlovaquinn Ru isn't personally fracking. She owns land that these companies drill into. We don't know the relationship she has with them. It's possible she willfully signed a contract to be paid for the land rights. It's also very possible she was forced to allow the land to be used in this way. It's just stupid to go after Ru specifically for this.

I'm one of those newer fans who don't jive with RuPaul. I watch the shows for the queens, and don't see the "star quality" in the host, even with all the Emmys and what not. I don't think I've fully changed my mind, but this video did help humanize the person and understand that this is someone who lived through defining moments in US history. And well, ofc, it's easy to hate someone because they're rich lol I'll try to keep it in mind that this is someone who predates the internet and is doing a great job of keeping up with the times with all of the changes this new technology has brought to the world, but most importantly, the drag scene.
@Nothereforit174
@Nothereforit174 Жыл бұрын
He helped redefine the drag scene and entertainment ..he’s a queer icon. And it’s his show!! Why do you all talk like he’s negotiable? Let him have been another race and that shit wouldn’t happen. You people make me ill. You never recognized star power clearly and are easily fooled by gimmicks. Don’t act like he’s an old man keeping up with drag when he’s a pillar to how it has and continues to evolve. Times like this I wish it was kept for the people who understand it. Anytime the rest of you get involved you act like you own it and get dismissive of people who are essential because you don’t “jive” I guess if he did flips, acted a little like an airhead, full clown mode even, and painted his face to be something that doesn’t even match the intention of drag for the sake of hiding a lack of ability to stand out serving femme but with no comedic talent or sass for true camp....then you’d love him. The younger ones seem to forget drag is femininity exaggerated, not put on a sparkly jumpsuit, sketchy wigs, and do stunts. And for those that say drag can be anything because posers in every scene do this....if everything becomes anything then we have no subcultures. It’s just a free for all, there is no drag, goths, punks, because the meaning is gone, intention, and you’re just dancing on a stage but calling it drag because you couldn’t figure out where to get your attention. People don’t jive with rue for being what drag is!!! I see you newbs in the comments. You root for theatrics but not cohesion, artistry, and if the crap makes sense at least or are they just showing what they can do. Drag is not a formless talent show for men in makeup. The feminine aspect is stripped from some of their routines as well because they don’t know what it means to serve femme so they’re just doing crap, but if they’re “unique” enough then they should win and when that doesn’t fly with people who know better then of that judge has no star quality and favor the elders too much. It’s getting wild. I sware the one that was obsessed with duck walking when she finally got it last season like first off, it’s appropriating ballroom and people called Ru a hater but why reward her for attempts at vogueing, this isn’t ballroom, but ending up NOEGUING at that. She was improper and she should’ve respected it enough to not have even brought it in like they’re interchangeable but then if she was gonna gonna add a little, then you do the shit correctly. It’s bad when prominent legends notice you screwing up on National tv and feel compelled to ask that drag queens stop appropriating their subculture because you’re that bad at it on drag race. But who ate it up, newbies! A lot of white and Asian ones who don’t even know our culture while they take the words from Black and Afro Latinx queer communities and treat our dances like it’s not as important as any other tradition. Ru is not the issue. People are mad she has class and doesn’t vibe with the messes that come on that show these days without even knowing the art form they’re engaging in and neither do their little fans

I use to go to the clubs just before I was 18. I don’t even know if I knew of drag queens or the aids crisis or anything at that age. I spent my teenage years being very sick and my friends were straight. Gay people here were few and far in between. I knew nothing of our culture until I went to college. I met another guy and we became inseparable. I was so consumed with having a failing heart and so I was playing catchup. It was t until my 20s that I really started to educate myself which is a shame to admit. I was an only child and my parents at the time were very vanilla. I use to see drag shows before drag race became a thing. As we get older we get wiser and look for more knowledge. I didn’t know who I was in my teens. I knew I liked guys but I didn’t know why. It is amazing that Ru in a time when internet and cell phones was not around, took the visions she saw and made them her own. For her to go on talk shows and do things and use that fierce attitude was just brilliant. A white boy like myself probably wouldn’t have been able to be that fierce. I’m really so happy for her success.

That word was considered a slur for people my age and older (I'm the same age as Michelle Visage) The root of that word means odd, or strange, we chose gay for a REASON, and that was because gay meant happy. But as usual, the young people get what they want, they can be inconsiderate of us, and we just have to take it.... but if we do the reverse, it's a bunch of "Your'e a boomer" outrage (Even when we're X'ers) But for those who didn't live through it, Rupaul was novelty personality with some degree of success, but not mainstream success, and certainly not a STAR. Supermodel of the world only went to #44 on the billboard hot 100. You did not hear the song on top 40 radio stations, it was a club hit, to be sure... but with 4 top 20 hits under her belt, Michelle Visage was a much bigger star than Rupaul was. Seduction was playing 5,000-10,000 seat venues, while Rupaul was performing at gay bars still. Even today, drag race has got a large cult following, but is a success mostly because it's on a cable network (very low bar for success), and it's extremely cheap to produce. To give you an idea, drage race pulls the same neilsen ratings that All My Children did when it was CANCELLED. So if Rupual famous? Yes. Is he a superstar? Hell no. Cher is a sperstar, Bette Midler is a superstar.

She Mail was a play on Tyra Mail, and while I saw the cheekiness in calling it such, the bigger the show got, they had to get PC so that the show wouldn’t be accused of being transphobic

Trans people did this so they could be on this show. If trans people want to do drag they should do their own show. A gay man who does drag cannot compete in a trans contest. They are really going to the extremes with all this BS.

When I was naming my daughter, I vividly remember thinking about what Ru’s mom did, giving her child a name for a star, so I did the same thing haha. I love the confidence she had for her child 🥹🤍

She's isn't perfect but to see young gays talking shh about Ru is just annoying to me... They'll never be able to do what she'd done for the community... She's ancient..but she's still learning to accommodate the gay of today... sensitivity and all... She still working, giving opportunity.... she'll probably be hosting until she's expired and to that we need to give her flowers when she's still able to smell it. I remember Bianca's story from the Ru-pression period when she call Ru out " I remember you from when you was famous" 😂 she's so nasty....

i feel super embarassed asking, especially as a trans person, but can you explain why you use she and he pronouns interchangeably? I know a lot of queens use she/her when in drag, but he/him out of drag. Thanks in advance!
