This talk was filmed at an Advaya Initiative event in November 2016, 'Shifting Outlooks'. Rupert Sheldrake spoke alongside Peter Owen Jones & Martin Shaw to look at the ecological challenges we face and how we can shift our outlook to engage with lifestyles that place our individual, social and environmental well being at the centre of life.
Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author of more than 80 scientific papers and 14 books (seven of them in collaboration with other authors). He was among the top 100 Global Thought Leaders for 2013, as ranked by the Duttweiler Institute, Zurich, Switzerland's leading think tank. Sheldrake is known both for pioneering research in plant biology (on the plant hormone auxin and apoptosis), and for his unconventional scientific hypotheses. He is especially known for his theories and research on ‘morphic resonance’ and morphogenetic fields, unexplained abilities of animals and humans, and for discussions of science, philosophy, parapsychology, religion and spirituality. His work has focused on broadening the research agendas of today’s natural sciences, and enabling constructive dialogues between these different fields.

Yes,I agree, first note.Rude individuals.Almost childlike:"I have to sit by my friend"..."No, you sit here!!!" Massively irritating and feel embarrassed for Rupert. Appear to mostly be ten year olds.(No disrespect to folks of that age).

fantastic information, Rupert is so tuned into this world in every way, so awesom to listen to his calming voice. even watched one of his videos on utube when he was so much younger his hair longer, and although he is much older, his has still maintained a clear calm voice, and he explains everything simply and thoroughly. Thanks for sharing...

Very nice presentation by Rupert. On a technical note from which all can learn and I learned from the Vasulka's in the '70s: Audio is the most overlooked part of any video. Can ruin an otherwise fruitful delivery.

I'm here because I've been trying to understand animal "instinct". So many animal are born knowing how to do things that aren't taught to them, such as migration in monarch butterflies, birds, etc... Morphic resonance could explain that. Wow!

We had a mice problem in our home. We first used sticky traps which worked very well at first. After eliminating quite a few mice that way, it gradually became less effective then totally ineffective which was evidently a permanent effect. The same thing happened with traps that would catch mice unharmed which would be released in a remote location. In all cases the trapped mice would be removed within a couple of hours, with very few exceptions where the mice died in the sticky trap.

i havent finished the lecture yet, so i dont know if he will touch on this, but i think morphic resonance can explain the apparent "spread" of viruses, non living organisms.

There is another option to consider. What if memories are stored in the brain but also backed up in the “ cloud “ I.e. morphic resonance?

We have a Memory-Body, (fourth Deep-Sleep-period) The Mother-Energy holds the six Basic-Energies, (the Eternity-Body holds the six Under-Bodies) as consist of the Day-Body, 'physical', and the Night-Bodies) (DeepSleep-periods) the Over-Consciousness holds the Under-Cosciousness Mirrored in the Rainbow, Instinct is the lowest (Red) Memory is the Highest (Purple) Memory bring us from word to word, from day to day, from Life to Life, so Memory is Far more Basic than people normally think. The Eternal Life have a Life-Side and Stuff-Side. Mineral-Kingdom is the Stuff-side of Memory, and beginning of a New Development-Circuit. Dr Sheldrake, in minute 36:24, you seem to suggest that our memories of our past aren't stored physically in our brains. What explains loss of memory following accidents which impact the brain ? Can someone answer . I'd love it if you answer me

He suggests memories aren't stored in the brain, but rather the brain acts as a receiver or tuning system. If a radio were broken, it may not be able to receive the signal properly.

Guess that maybe some part of the brain is damaged so cannot pick up the information, could be like a broken radio tuner...

@@enterprisingdrop3226 So the “I” of my memories and experiences are “out there” in the morphogenic field with my brain fined tuned to a specific part of it-the l that is me. I can sense that for every consciousness. He and Rupert Spira should talk!

Dr Sheldrake, I am confused there. While you say that behavioural characteristics aren't inherited , i am afraid you cannot say the same about physical characteristics. Children of parents belonging to the same race do end up looking like their parents, whereas those born to interracial parents end up looking like the racial group that has the dominant gene , AFAIK. Can someone please enlighten me on this

I don't understand why he goes into religions at about the 38th minute. I didn't get the point. Also, in terms of the brain storing memory, I rememberedWilder Graves Penfield's stimulation of the brain he was operating on, caused his patient to have a vivid memory of her childhood (a birthday party, I believe). So was the memory held in some neural networks or in say, the stomach, and that was the area where the brain turned into the birthday information?

Maybe the religion came into conversation, because it relates to the localization of memory topic he was on. I've met some very young people, with vivid memories of places and names in German(y), something a not even 3 year old should "know" already. As far as your comment about Penfield's stimulation of the brain, my first thought and reflection, is maybe the interaction sent a grounding / shift in electrical current of the brain and therefore ignited the access to the memory (which memories are like dark matter in the science world, they know they're out there, but have yet to find it where in space and time it resides). Like an antennae picking up signals on a t.v., maybe the surgery momentarily re-shaped the antennae and broadcast a unique accessible channel for that observer / recorder / user. I believe there's also stories of parts of brains being removed (due to trauma / surgery removal), that should have removed certain memories / motor skills, yet the person maintains them. Materialists are always going to lag behind what the genuinely objective inquirer can perceive, because they're being creative in their approach, instead of habitual, just like Sheldrake speaks of at the very end in this video.
