Hello there. Could you explain how to run a tube amplifier output (not fx send) into this DI? Maybe do a video demonstrating it? Alot of ppl I talk to about this say it isn't possible without completely ruining the unit...which makes sense in the sense that that the output voltage from the output of the amplifier is too high. I want to try this this but am EXTREMELY afraid of blowing the unit and or my tubes.

"the RNDI can handle up to 1000 watts when set to "SPEAKER" mode." I about to try this too. But I am trying to find out if speaker cables should be used (instead of TS) for both the IN and the THRU when hooked up to a tube amp in SPEAKER mode.

@@aromaz1707 I got my answer to this when I discovered what a Load Box was and how it operates. Still considering using this though.

I need to ask a question... in the 70's many punk guitarists ditched amplifiers and went straight into the mixing console to record... by doing so they were using the console to colourize the sound... many people have studio set ups in their homes and do not use actual amplifiers. I own an RNDI since it very first came out but quite frankly you do not discuss or even show anywhere anything about using pedalboards... I need to know this... if I were using 10 pedals with Friedman Powergrid 10 (Which is quite an expensive power supply for the pedals) can I set up like this... guitar into pedalboard... pedalboard into the IN... set to INS... then the XLR takes the signal into the audio interface... can this be done on the RNDI without overloading the RNDI... so I can get the "Colourization" of the RNDI recorded into the audio interface of a Focusrite? Most people creating at home do not have the set ups that you have in the instructions given with the RNDI. Hence this is an important question because below people have already made similar comments about the lack of seeing the various set ups in videos. At the moment from what I have read in the instructions is that the THRU does not have an altered sound with the RNDI... that signal is a guitar going directly through the IN and the XLR going out and what powers it also goes into the audio interface and it is this pathway that acutally gets the colourization of the RNDI... Sorry to go all technical here but people need to know. I know I am not the only one asking this.

Hi, I'm using aguitar with active pickups connected to the inout of a multifx and from there to the PA system. I have 2 questions I hope you answer: Q 1. Do I need a passive or active DI box? Q 2. If my routing signal is guitar-->DI box-->Multifx-->PA system would the DI box (in this case I presume would be the active DI) be able to improve the tone of my guitar? Thanks in advance i fyou wolll answer me.

Newbie question. I can run this into my interface with xlr male to female? And do I have to have the thru or 2nd 1/4” Jack on right input routed to an amp? Or can I leave it unplugged and just run the two cables, Instrument to 1st 1/4” Jack then xlr/xlr to interface? Thanks

Correct! Just plug your instrument into the front panel ¼" input jack, then XLR out to your interface to output audio and to power the RNDI (via 48V phantom from your interface). The THRU is not necessary for operation; it's only if you want to split the signal and also send it to an amp/speaker as well.

@@RupertNeveDesigns awesome thank you!. It's a DI question I've always had and never could get a concrete answer on. Whether the "Thru" 1/4" right jack was necessary for DI Box to work properly. Really appreciate the response. Huge Rupert Neve/AMS Neve fan, although fairly new to digital recording, have always envied your consoles and lunchbox/rack processors!

Does it make a Difference if i use a 1/4 TS (unbalanced) or 1/4 TRS (balanced) on the Front panel?

@@wojtyla92 neve said no. Me personally i went TS. Rndi-s removes noise so TS is a little louder. Also anything i am feeding into the rndi-s is at full volume thata what its made for. I bought a second unit too

Unfortunately I bought one last month, and I send it back, because it was not powering on when I press the 48v on my audio card. I was so exited to try it out. But I didn’t know that I need to plug it with a XLR on both sides. My cable was a XLR from the DI to a TRS 1/4 balance to my audio card 😞

It's very likely you were plugged into a line input and not a Mic Pre input of your interface which is necessary to get the 48V. A line input wouldn't have the 48V, and virtually all mic pre inputs are XLR and not TRS (on some interfaces with combo inputs the XLR is the mic in, and the TRS is line on the same combo input). Another possibility is that there wasnt a ground connection on the cable you were using, which is how the 48V is connected

The reason I watch KZbin is to see the actual hook up of hardware not a talk through.. This video failed to do that when you explained how to connect to bass amp and speaker to the RNDI without actually SHOWING where the connections physically go.

I agree, just show the complete hook-up, not all of us are audio engineers. He talked about an external pedalboard connection, but all he said was plug a 1/4 cable into the thru. Completely useless.
