Okay, I was left absolutely flabbergasted when Russell pulled out of the deal over a washing machine - it took me several days to find this episode and I am now absolutely over the moon happy for Karen and Russell - wow - never would have dreamed Karen was so adept with machinery and the place is now stunning after the last scene was a rundown stone cottage with sheep as the "homeowners." This fabulous revisit has totally made my entire year - so happy to be found wrong about the disappointment Russell made Karen feel - wow, thank you so much for making me see the Universe in a breathtakingly new Light - I will try never to judge again - ha, well, hopefully never - Thank you also Kirstie and Phil for your wonderful interactions and I especially Love Kirstie tell Phil re: all buyers, "I'll tell them what they need to hear, NOT what they want to hear" - this show is a joy - THANK YOU

When Karen said, “We just have to convert it [from a stone sheep barn into a home]” I had no inkling that they intended to do the work themselves. That certainly puts a different spin on things - and helps explain their mentality much more. As I recall, they had a budget of about 300K to purchase a home 2.5 years earlier - and ended up spending 365K to date - which gave them 2 extra bedrooms without eaves, and the storage and layout they wanted. The house is now worth apx 430K - which Phil called a 65K gain. Breaking that down, their manpower earned each an additional 13K per year. While they couldn’t have hired 2 builders for that salary, it wouldn’t have taken builders 2.5 years to get the place move-in ready - more like 2.5 months. And what Phil overlooked is that they were living elsewhere for 27 months - so that detracts from their supposed $65K gain substantially. I suppose it’s up to each couple as to where they want to place their energies and what they want to consider a gain - given that the housing market changed, I think they could’ve saved their hard labor and money and still ended up able to purchase what they wanted in the end. To each their own. 🤷🏻‍♀️

English houses are so beautiful. I love those old thatched roofs in the homes from 16, 17, 18 century ❤️

I agree, however, I wouldn't want to live in a thatch house. It costs $$$$ to have the thatch replaced (about every 30 years, so check how old the roof is before you buy it) and I understand that you may have difficulty insuring a house that is a thatch if you have a working woodstove/fireplace.

I'm fascinated that so many of these home seekers love being in such close proximity to a pub. A pub within walking distance may be fine, but I would be seriously reluctant to buy a house across the street from an establishment where boisterous, noisy people may congregate as they're coming and going.

People don't want to drink and drive in the UK. It's not socially acceptable here. Also many people don't want to have to drive to access their community. Many Europeans are happy to walk more than North Americans. The fuel prices probably have alot to do with it. A good pub is the heart of the village for tasty meals and socializing. You are not going to a fast-food drive-through or calling UberEats in many of these locations.

I think pubs are for food but I don’t drink and I don’t like drunks. It’s illegal to drink and drive too so we call lyft. We don’t move close to it. Even if I drank I don’t want to live that close. Our drinking age is 21 which does help for drunk drivers or drunk walkers. No pubs in the US so it is different there but drunks are drunks no matter where you live. I avoid them at all costs.

@@drunkvegangal8089 As a Canadian, I spent some time in Wye (Kent) and had a most enjoyable time in a "micro pub" with the locals. I had to be dragged out! If was so much fun and had such a community feel to it. Love the British pubs! The Brits know how to run a pub, hands down.

@@kathenson606 I think you're being a bit harsh. Not all people who frequent pubs are "drunks". British pubs are all about the community.

So many do not want their gardens / back yards overlooked ... get used to it, this is a very crowded island ... in my homeland of Canada city neighbourhood backyards are overlooked but so what? you are not that interesting that next door will be gawking to see what you are doing ...

What is the British obsession with “being overlooked”!? It not a thing here in the US, even though we have a ton more space.🤔

@@07laines07 , of course we have that issue. Builders construct new 5,000 sq ft suburban houses 10 feet apart. Most homes that are not rural in the US are "overlooked". But Americans are just used to living this way.
