My first husband passed away from a rare form of cancer in 2009, I set up a relaxation room with a sofa and his Bose system. My neighbours helped paint the room sunshine yellow, coincidentally, Closer to the Heart was played on the radio, despite the pain, he sang every lyric, two days later he passed away, we played this track at the funeral and 2112, Rush were with him until the very end, long live Rush x x x x x

My dad passed away 6 days before my 22nd birthday. I'm 31 now and today, 4/14, is his birthday. He would've been 64. We used to go fishing every weekend and he would always put on the radio and turn it to the classical rock station for "RUSH Hour". Such great memories whenever I hear this music now. Makes me wish we could cast a line one more time. Love you dad Rest easy.

For ordained reasons I am here to tell you we all are here today to cast a line, One more time. For me i read it in matthew 4 i think, fishers of men. The next day out exploring California coast I met Noble Tom, who was casting out from the beach, surffishing.. I pulled up asking if he had caught any. He told me about Jesus and showed me also a bucket of water full of fish. I remained in that area for years. Never again did I see anyone catch anything there. Im slow.

Yall haters don't realize that Geddy Lee's voice helps makes Rush who they are. His voice makes them instantly recognizable and different. It may be a bit weird but oh well the rest of the band is okay with how he sings so get over it. You don't have to listen to it if it really offends you that freaking much.

Gives me loving nostalgia. My dad worked at a hospital as an AC tech and sometimes was on call and whenever they'd page him he would take me and my brothers with him to work and on our way home we would always stop by a near by Best Buy to look around in case he was paged to go back in. We were always in the CD section and I remember my dad picking out "Greatest Rush Hits" and he told me and my brothers (mind you I was about 8 years old) that this was a badass band and he wasn't wrong! Learned and fell in love with many classics my dad had us listening to.

This song always made me think deeply about the idea and concept of 'heart' and exactly what it meant to have a good 'heart'. Without realizing it, these guys are philosophers for all time in a musical vein. Rock on RUSH. I also would imagine fantasy and science fiction worlds while listening to all their albums, especially 2112. These guys allowed me (a vehicle) to escape the harsh realities of growing up (puberty) and bad relationships between family and others (bullies, abuse, etc). Crazy times, but RUSH was there to help with the hurt.
@brianeckes88265 жыл бұрын
And yes, I imagine Jesus rocking out to this as well lol. Guilty. But RUSH did try to improve a world that was messed up, exactly like the Jesus of the New Testament, nothing wrong with that at all. RUSH was trying to get people back to a reality grounded in goodness (closer to the Heart) just like Jesus did in the New Testament. Rock on RUSH, I hope you continue to make music in some form or fashion. I may even be able to demonstrate the idea that this song was in a reaction against the previous Vietnam war. Maybe.

Moving Pictures wow I am class of 83 and the best music to listen specially with an altered state of mind lol. I listen to their music as I was sheltered growing up at about 18 years old, first it was the music then the I started paying attention to the lyrics. What an eye opening experience, when the other bands were writing easy party sexual or just plan ignorant lyric, Neil was actually making you think and opening your mind to in some way benefit your life. Rest in peace Neil Peart even though you thought of me as a strangers in the flesh, in spirit we were brothers in Christ. Peace and joy now have come to you as you are reunited with the ladies you tragically lost. God speed to you, Alex, Geddy and all the Rush fans.

Let the haters hate, Neil was writing from experience and imagination, he bridged these two concepts brilliantly and with passion. He was expressing his creativity completely and the other band-mates supplemented it with their talent. I remember going through a lot of dark days in my youth and these guys helped bring me through it on countless times. Haters will always hate but they will fade away like the grass that whithers when it gets exposed to the sun. Honest creativity will always survive for generations to come.

When I was a 12 year old boy, I won tickets off of a local radio station to see Rush& Max Webster in concert. This after staying up until all hours of the night to win them. My dad was a truck driver so I ran the house at night. Anyways, on the day of the show( mid- March,1977), I went to pick the tickets up at the radio station and somebody had already claimed them. I was some dejected as I walked the 2 miles home . When I got there I told the old man what had transpired and he gave me the 13$ needed to buy two more tickets. I took my then best buddy with me and we had a great time. It was a huge party like we had never seen in our little lives before . We had a better time bragging to our buddies the next day at school about it. I remember my ears ringing for several days afterwards. This album was the tour they were on for the show.

I love this song and i know this will be blasphemy but the only line in the entire song I don't like is the "the men who hold high places..." line. That has been the norm for thousands of years and look where that got us? I think in my subjective opinion that "we who hold low places must be the ones to start. To mold a new reality closer to the heart... That is literally my only gripe within this masterpiece and it is only my humble subjective opinion.

Takes me way back. I remember dancing and singing to this song with my dad when I was 7. Nearly 20 years later.. Still love it.

Probably the one song by Rush that's actually optimistic instead of sounding optimistic but being bitterly cynical underneath.

What's wrong with being bitterly cynical about the shitty nature of humanity? Its more honest than sugarcoating everything with optimism.

Super Pochaco Agreed. One of the only songs on earth that gives me goosebumps to this day.

Super Pochaco How is Rush cynical? Yeah, some of there songs are a little dark, but most are happy.

Super Pochaco They seemed pretty happy about the weed on A Passage To Bangkok Edit: In all seriousness, The Camera Eye is pretty upbeat and optimistic as well
