I was at that Belle River High concert as well. However, Peart was the drummer for sure. I think it was in January 1975. There is a photo of Rush playing that night in the 1975 Belle River HS yearbook, on page 75, and Peart is clearly the drummer. The opening act was the forgettable quartet 'Rose'. The concert was totally amazing and I have been a lifetime fan since that night. My friend and I were telling people Rush was going to be world famous. They thought we were nuts...for about two years! Fly By Night was released shortly thereafter. A life changing night for a 14 year old fan.

That's too funny, and probably what happened! I also noted that during the earlier parts of this filming, the camera crew only focussed on Ged and Alex, and then realized the third member of the band is shaking the room with some amazing drumming! I can imagine them saying "whoa, who is this guy on the skins??...hey Johnson..film this guy too!" I'm sure Neil showed great respect to Rutsey in maintaining overall drum comp. of the song in which he wasn't part of creating, but as you said he built up some mind blowing chops afterwards, and let's not forget some of the best lyrics ever written. Rush Rules!

Whenever I am asked to name my five favorite Rush songs, it's an impossible task. There are too many, but I do it anyway, knowing that there are so many I might swap on a different day, in a different mood. Regardless of what makes my list, Finding My Way is always number one. First song on their first album, and I'm 14 again for 4 and a half minutes. Little did I know the journey I would be taking with them. Absolutely incredible. The memories, man. Oh, the memories and the emotions as I was flying around on my crappy little blue sparkle Pearl starter kit, on my home built riser, with my blue Christmas lights strung above my kit in my parents unfinished basement. The lights off, except for those blue Christmas lights, reflecting off the chrome and the cymbals and the drums. It was magical for me. Thank you, Rush. Thank you to the boys who would eventually refer to themselves as Dirk, Lerxst, and Pratt.

I saw them for the first time just a couple of weeks after this show at a club called B'Ginnings in Schaumburg Il. in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The club was owned by Danny Seraphine, the drummer from Chicago. It was located in the same strip mall where I worked in a stereo store. Rory Gallagher was on the bill, another power trio - very good, but not Rush! A year and a half later I took my two younger brothers - 14 and 15 - to their first concert. It was Rush with Kansas and Starcastle (a prog band from Champaign Il. - with Terry Luttrell, the original lead singer for REO Speedwagon.) Rush was the middle act, and just blew the doors off the Randhurst Ice Arena! I knew all of Rush's music - so I thought, until a new and amazing song began - the opening notes of "Overture!" Little did we know that we were at the first show that Rush played music from "2112" in the U.S. live - March 1976. Unbelievable! For the next month I haunted a local music store owner until the album was finally released! Well, last night my younger brother Mike and I went to see the R40 tour in Phoenix, the first time we had been to a Rush show together since that amazing show in '76. I have to admit, it was an emotional night - and an amazing show.

It ran from 1973 to 1981. It would have performances by 2-3 bands. Rush played 2 other songs (Best I Can, In the Mood) before this one. It was recorded at The Starwood in West Hollywood, CA. I guess they figured since this was the new drummer, they wouldn’t show him much, but despite the poor video quality, you can tell it’s Neil. He joined the band 2 and a half months before this. I've been a fan of Rush since 76 and the first album is still one of my all time favorites. They had all of the elements of rock on that LP hard rock progression with blues thrown in. They never made anything like that again and that's why it's one of my all time rock favorites

You have to admit this band had one HELL of a run!

Love the youthful enthusiasm and energy. You can see how stoked they are to be out their playing. Fun to hear them sans midi, sequencers, and effects. I think they were sort of reaching back for that on the last album. (er, well, with the addition of a string section)

They are just so awesome....its mesmerizing...they are amazing musicians....ive seen them 11 times in concert and each time i see them it just gets better.....THEY ARE WAY BEYOND THEIR TIME....critics in the 70s did not understand their music but now with KZbin, the average music fan is finally understanding their brilliance and complexity.

The thing about this concert is that Geddy had one drink of alcohol -just one sip of wine-and his mind was unhinged in a way. Lee said that he didn't even remember the concert, and by he came to his senses, it was over. he really had the knack for stage performance-ship!

Wrong actually... it was southern comfort which is a whisky.. and he most likely drank the whole mickey.

No, he said "One sip, and it went straight to my head..." I watched the first couple of bits from the documentary a few minutes ago

Ben M I think he meant that after one sip he did feel it, but he kept drinking after. I don't think its possible to blackout with just one sip, whether whiskey or wine.

Love it! ,and I have to admit even though Iv'e been a Rush fan since 1980 age 16,Iv'e never really heard this one,and certainly have never until now seen them live at this early stage of joining with Neil,I'm totally into it! I think it's partly cause in Australia Rush were/are still such an unknown,which kind of made them special,as nobody else[except my extremely talented Drummer friend Conrad[hey man!],who introduced me to them] knew who they were,haha it was like this secret band,that other friends had no idea about!

What I actually meant was although they were considered a worldwide success,back in 1980/1981 right up to today,I'm willing to bet that not even one Australian radio station[especially mainstream] have EVER played a single Rush tune. Our radio is 100% hit singles only,not like US Rock radio[which in a foreign country -US Army Radio] as a 13 year old is how I got to hear the "Song Remains The Same"version of "Stairway to Heaven"and that unbelievably brilliant Solo in THAT version-NEVER would I have heard that version on Australian radio,and that solo is the single most important reason that when our family returned a year later,I became a totally obsessed Led Zeppelin fan in 1979,but all the other kids at school were like "why do you like that old shit man"?Gee I wonder if the "Buggles",and "The Knack"-what they were listening to,ended up having the timeless quality that Zeppelin,and bands like Rush who Alex Lifeson was so influenced by have-no f'in way.

Classic from Rush her. Geddy plays a blinding bass and the riff drive the whole song- love it! Not many bands can match this playing today.

It is so good to stumble across these old videos from one of my favorite bands from the past 50 years. They should have shown more shots of Neil in the video. That's probably because nobody, besides his 2 band mates, knew how good he really was yet.
@TruthSurge13 жыл бұрын
@bughead3 yeah, I just watched an interview with young Geddy and he was certainly all about giving huge corps the finger and doing things their way. They were making good money just touring and selling albums to people who just liked it enough to buy it and singles and hits and pop and let's trim 3 min off this song just wasn't going to fly (by night) with them. ahahaha man, I love that. Sure, they had musical roots but they didn't stay there. They ventured out some.
