While Signals was sort of the gateway record into a more synth / less bass version of the band, it probably has THE best bass tones in their catalog. Countdown is like peak Ric tone IMO.
@davidkrappenschitz14245 ай бұрын
I would agree. Chemistry as well. Those versus, and especially the bridges to the chorus where Geddy is triggering the Taurus pedals. That good Rickenbacker overdrive and that “crackle” of the E and A strings just barely hitting the top of the pickup pole… it really stands out. And with Lerxst playing just simple quarter note / quarter rest barre chords like he often does… together, Chemistry is a sleeper track that should have gotten a little more attention As for Digital Man…. for a long time I thought he was playing g the Steinberger on that track. But many say it’s definitely the Rickenbacker. He must have had a shit ton of compression dialed in, or something

It’s too bad he doesn’t have an actual Oberheim or a polyphonic moog. The overall rawness is more present than it is as a MIDI programmed version Don’t get me wrong, he has that overall sound of the Oberheim down just like you hear on the record. And it sounds good MIDI frustrates the hell out of me. It always crashes and glitches on me. Or I can’t get my moogs to activate. And then I have to do a reset for when I want out if MIDI and back to the regular synth MIDI and trying to figure out Ableton and pro tools… for me it triggers those levels of frustration where I start slamming laptops and tablets as hard as I possibly can on my concrete walkway… and I don’t stop smashing the living shit out of them until they’re damn near dust That’s how much I HATE MIDI

Excellent bass work. Calling bullsh** on the synth work. I watched this a couple of times and watched you physically miss notes, yet I heard them in the recording. Calling you out as a poser (at least on the keys). Shameful, bruh. Anyone who fails to recognize this is clearly not paying attention or doesn't know the song well enough to see the mistakes. I played this song live dozens of times in the 90s. I know it front and back. Your fingering is close, which means you probably CAN play it, but this was not a recording of a live keyboard performance. The bass playing was fantastic.

Geddy Lee is great I love em, but I looked through your videos you haven’t covered Les Claypool the greatest bass player ever (IMO) if primus isn’t enough for you to become a fan then at a minimum learn Les Claypool and the holy mackerel the awakening off of high ball for the Devil.
