You. The. Man. As you so clearly demonstrate, the key is to dominate the tempo. So many people chase the tempo, especially in the solos. The song is all about tempo tempo tempo.

Funny how I practice hip-hop and I study the likes of Big Pun and Mf Doom. Those guys "obliterate the pocket" or dominate the tempo in their flows. Rhythm is such a crazy world and the parallels between artforms is mindblowing to me.

Good night brother, I'm a big fan of yours, I'm from Brazil, I watch your videos many times, after many years I went back to studying double bass, and you have been my inspiration, unfortunately here in Brazil the instruments are very expensive, but one day I would like to have this double bass Rickenbacker he is in my opinion one of the best, another thing that pleases me is that you are a fan of Banda Rush, I love this band. I want to wish you much success and much sound, rock in roll in your life. Sorry for the English, but I think you can understand. Big hug from your Brazilian fan.

Tell us you don't have the chops without telling us you don't have the chops. 🤣
@daveweed2765Ай бұрын
@@basedbear1605 Nope dont have the chops. I got the steak. See what most bassist dont realize. You are not there to play guitar. You are not there to really stand out. YYZ isnt tjat hard to play. You can learn it about two days. Or less. You gorst haveto learn the notes which is pretty basic. Then you have to learn the timing and then the groove. Apparently the bass line of YYZ is a golden egg. Oh so difficult to play. It isn't. If you learn it on fingers and a bassist thrn play it with a pick. Ughh huhh? Then make it clean. In a studio that means no bleed over. Bass is a bitch to play in a studio. Geddy Lee is good as far as we know but? Now...If you play bass you should know the dynamics of sound you can get from one. I dont play Rush nor care to play yhem but within 4 hours with the notes which took about an hour and three hours on the recorded track with tge timing I could play it.
