Out of a tremendous catalogue to choose from, this is one of my favorite songs Rush ever did. The band had similar feelings, and I wonder if the message of this song was one of the factors that kept Neil from doing the unthinkable after the deaths of his daughter and wife.

I am a Rush superfan...30 years of concerts, I'm supercritical on Rush covers...this takes The Pass to a new level. This would make Getty and Alex tear up. Its really a beautiful song and singers feel/interpretation is nothing less than perfect. You guys nailed it need some more! How about Ghost of a chance from Roll the Bones! SUB'd!

Now after Neil's passing, I can see how all of these covers will become Rock Classics, even for those Rush compositions that were not as popular or got airplay time. We as RUSH fans knew the value, but other listeners will learn the quality of the music, the tone, the harmonies, the simple complexities, the things that made RUSH an extraordinary Rock Power Trio, the likes we will probably never see again.

THANK YOU!! I needed this! One of my very, very best friends died one year to the day before Neil Peart died... I still deeply grieve them both each day...all day...all night... I followed RUSH from 1976. I followed my great friend-to-be, Nolan, from November 12, 1981. I saw RUSH many, many times; their last tour included. I knew Nolan for 37 years! Thank you!!

Thank you Gabby and company. I am a survivor and love you and Neil so much. I spent thirty days in detox listening to your version of this song in 2019. It pulled me through a very dark time in my life. Bless your sweet voice. I learned to play this song on guitar and bass using this track as a background. Many a night, I put this at the highest volume with headphones. Even at four in the morning, this song was my battle cry. Pardon my previous posts, this I was trying to post. Thank you again, Gabby.
@jimpett88023 жыл бұрын
Neil would be so proud. You are using digital drums, "who else other than Neil, could be so accurate?". Metronomes set themselves by Neil and Charlie. I owe my life to you. I...thirty days, after a failed suicide, could not even do that right. I survived. Caught your version...now I want to live. Done ✅ good Gabby. I know Rush, in Rio, are super proud. Bless you and your band.

And we can all see that RUSH fans grieve, feel, appreciate, love, and support those in our midst who are hurting... As one wise commenter said, getting on a motorcycle helped Neil. That’s not a option for me, but, like Neil, I bicycle. I walk. I lift wrights. I write. I read. I think and feel. It’s difficult to find kindred souls and absorb the blows that life/ humans give, but there are things to do! I find solace in the rhythm of making chain mail, in the order of tying decorative knots, in the cadence of strolling a path or hiking a hill, in the circular motion of pedaling a bicycle, in the push and pull and breathing if exercise... To those RUSH fans, to those humans, who are hurting, know that Neil hurt, Geddy and Alex hurt,!we all, we all, hurt. Find a purpose. Find a star, yes. Find a friend. (Look up You Need a Friend or? from the very first RUSH album...) Plan - and follow through on - a positive project to help others; finding help for yourself in the doing. Adopt a cat or a dog or a fish or a neighborhood flock of sparrows. Water a plant. Pick wild raspberries. Make friends with herself, flaws and all. JUST . . . DO NOT GIVE UP!!! Turn around. Get off the ledge. Put it down, whatever it is. Take the wheel back. Toss the booze and the pills. Grab a bandage. Choose to be here yet!!! It is worth being here yet!!! Bless you all! Bless RUSH and everyone associated with them!!

"All this machinery making modern music can still be openhearted"...wow. Rush is the only band I've really stuck with into adulthood, I've been following them since Presto. And like many others in the comment section, "The Pass" looms large in my personal story. I remember adolescent death fantasy very well, and how arresting it was to hear a rock band inform me that there would be "no salutes" should I self immolate. Now, with 5 children, and with one of them looking into the void (at 16 years old) and toying with the idea that his life would be somehow important or meaningful if cut off in a glorious tragedy, I find myself mining the message in this song as I try to help him. Yeah, Rush is a rock band, but their songs and albums are a chronicle of thoughtful people growing and evolving...and them sharing their growth and evolution with the world. Thank you, Rush. And thank you, Fleesh, for some terrific covers of this band. I've tried to get my kids to listen to Rush, but it just doesn't take (at least not yet). Your covers might be a way in, who knows. Anyway I bought your album last night.
