I'm sure the first time I saw Rush was on the Grace under Pressure tour in 85. Marillion opened for them. At Radio City Music Hall. The funny thing was this was one of the first rock shows to play at R.C. The ushers were all old geezers who were accustomed to dealing with Christmas shows and lighter family fare. They were yelling at the fans not to stand up during the show! Guess who won out. I actually saw Dire Straits at the hall later that year or perhaps 86 and the ushers had obviously been told my management to knock off their bully tactics. Both great shows and the acoustics in that hall are phenomenal. Better days,(sigh).

I used to watch this every once in awhile, because it always gives me goose bumps. 60,000 singing along to an instrumental in a country RUSH had never visited prior to that tour. Now, I watch with the same goose bumps, along with tears in my eyes, and the feeling of my heart being ripped out of my chest. RIP to the GOAT, The Professor, Pratt, Maestro, The Great One, Neil Peart. My hero!

Also worth mentioning- official sales of Rush albums in South America had been low and most of their popularity had been down to unofficial copies of albums and bootlegs.

Saw Rush 13 times. While I don't think everyone just "sat there," I can tell you that American crowds changed after the Rush in Rio video dropped. Best live album ever. Best live convert video ever. These are clearly football fans. Go to a football match, you'll see fans going off like this. (Not American football, what the rest of the world calls football and we call soccer).

Had the privilege of seeing the Moving Pictures tour at the Omni in Atlanta. Four rows back, center. As a drummer, it was truly like a religious experience when they played this song. So many times on my set of Pearls, trying to match this perfection. Never made it, but damn it was a blast trying. God bless Neil, the greatest drummer of my lifetime, and also one of the finest lyricist. Rest easy brother.

This was the last concert of the Vapor Trails Tour. First time ever in South America and the concerts were in Porto Alegre, São Paulo and Rio. I was in Porto Alegre and there were people from Chile and Argentina as far as I know. About the concerts in Brazil, read what Lifeson and Lee told later: “It’s surprising how in tune they are with everything, all forms of music. They don’t speak a lot of English down there, yet the audience was singing the whole night. And they very easily sung along with songs from Vapor Trails as they did from 2112 or Moving Pictures” - Alex Lifeson in 2003. “YYZ was one of the audience highlights of the show. As soon as we started playing that song, the whole crowd started bobbing up and down in time with it. And they were singing along. What was amazing about the Brazilian crowds, when we played some of our instrumental stuff, they would be singing parts, like they had written parts for it on top of some of the music.” - Geddy Lee in 2003.

I can happily say I was there, in the middle of the crowd. And now I wish this stands as a homage to Neil (and the rest of the Band). People there were not just “singing” YYZ, but exploding in ecstasy as this tune represents much of what Rush stands for Rock and Roll (and for ex-musicians-wannabe like myself). This images speak for themselves as an everlasting homage. RIP my childhood idol. You were one those very few to transcend music itself and to become a living mythological god. You were sort of a silent sheperd for me. Thank you very much indeed. Love from Brazil.
