Neil Peart was the greatest drummer ever. I have never heard a more precise percussionist. His beats and solos were so clean and rhythmical.......I never heard that man mess up....ever. And I’ve been a drummer for over 20 years. He is my main influence and the reason I became a drummer. Thank you Neil for all your awesomeness.....fly by night my friend.

Most prolific drum solo ever recorded. And the crowd reaction to the transition from drum solo to guitar solo (at 5:34, when most of the crowd is fully aware of what they're hearing) lets me know unequivocally that there is more to reality (and/or beyond) than we realize. Just amazing.

I learned to play drums from this album and this drum solo specifically. It's a cacophony of almost all known rudiments, and if you start here, and can play this mostly note for note, you can play almost anything. They don't call Neil "The Professor" for nothing.

When this came out along with the drum solo from ATWAS it was the first time I heard of a drum solo being played on boom boxes in school buses...at school, on the radio like it was a HIT SONG like any other hit song from the 80's. Neil was the first drummer to make the drummer "the showcase" instrument of the band. To this day if you go to just about any band hall and any high school...it's still Neil Peart and Rush songs being taught! Neil is "hyperkinetic sophistication" on the drums!

peartfaldo I think the album and video recording was done at different times and places., because I've had the album since it came out and it's just a little bit different than the video. I've heard a legend that when it got to Neil's solo Geddy and Alex left the stage. Towards the end of the solo they came back and the three of them picked up right where they left off. Not sure how accurate the legend is but Neil was my favorite drummer and lyricists.

I love rush and this solo. Max Roach, Elvin Jones, John Bonham, Buddy Rich, or countless other drummers had 13 toms, 15 cymbals, double bass, or smoked cigarettes with a 4 piece and got loose
